Hi, I’m Jatin, a community builder by profession and a content guy from the heart.

Ever since my childhood (literally, like when I was 12 years old), I started a debate club. Back then, I got 8 students from my class and a total of 14 students from other sections together to debate on motions like - THBT ozone layer depletion is a man-made disaster in the making. Trust me, those days this is all we used to talk about.

However, I fell in love with content and community building later when I started, Kuch Bhi Reviews - a YouTube channel. I, along with 2 of my friends, was successful in growing it to 3K+ community members that lead to 200K+ views in a year’s time on the YouTube channel. 

It was great learning that helped me understand the power of doing things together! 

Along with this, I kept participating in debate competitions across the country and got a chance to meet phenomenal speakers. It is when I enjoyed the most being a part of a community. 

In 2016, I decided to do my first internship. Where I got a chance to meet 100+ startup founders PAN India, I interviewed them for a digital marketing agency, Denziti Media under their project, High on Startup.

After such a crazy internship, I was pushed to take up a job but I hadn’t quite figured it out then. So, I joined an internship program in leadership hiring an executive recruitment firm, Crescendo Global Services to understand the recruiter mindset and market demand. Thankfully, I was able to get the answers I was looking for from this internship. 

Finally, I explored the community piece properly with CoHo, one of the 1st coliving brands of India. The journey with them was insightfully ecstatic. I curated over 250+ experiences in less than a year. Met so many people in these events and got to know countless beautiful stories.

I moved to Housr with an intent to build MEGA communities and have been exceedingly happy since then. Housr is India’s 1st MEGA coliving brand that means there are over 500 members living together in one establishment. Now, that’s what I’m talking about!

My true strength lies in my ability to celebrate the victory of another. Trust me when I tell you this, I wasn’t born with it. I had to learn it. If you’d like to know what I’m talking about then a cup of coffee is what I’d like to get with you.

5 days ago, an Indian founder raised ₹90 lakh from one post.

On 24th Dec, Chanakya tweeted asking people to fund his startup.

The aftermath shocked both Ritu and Chanakya (not me).

The replies started coming in.

“repeat customer, interested!”
“would love to look at the roadmap.”
“we are doing 10L per person per startup. 6 of us.”

On Mar 11 at 11:11am, he confirmed they had raised ₹1.90 crore.

₹1 crore from angel network + ₹90 lakh from people on X.

This founder was not Nithin Kamath or Deepinder Goyal or someone with Shark Tank India fame.

Few use AI to clarify ideas. 
Many use it to decorate confusion.

The gap between "what actually happens" and "how it gets told" can be quite funny.

LinkedIn versus Reality (leave edition)

The first time I wore pyjamas on stage, I told myself I was breaking “suit culture.”

For decades, Indian business dressed like authority with suits, polished shoes, ties that meant “I belong here” because power lived in institutions: banks, boardrooms, family offices, government jobs. 

If you wanted credibility, you dressed like it.

Then startup money shifted the centre of gravity, suddenly hoodies meant ownership and slippers meant equity. Dressing down meant, “I don’t need approval” and everyone clapped like it was evolution - but both are uniforms.

The suit says, “Respect me.”
The slippers say, “I don’t need your respect.”

Both are signals.
Both are strategy.

In psychology we call it "enclothed cognition" i.e. what you wear changes how you think and behave. 

I’ve felt it. 

When I wear a suit, I sit straighter. I choose my words more carefully. I scan the room for hierarchy. When I wear pyjamas, I lean back. I take space. I speak faster. I assume I belong.

Clothes don’t create confidence.
They amplify the power structure you think you’re inside.

The most insecure founders I’ve met overdress.
The second most insecure ones overdress-down.

Both are trying to control perception.

When I wear pyjamas on stage, it’s signalling too. 
It’s me saying, “I’m above the performance.”
Which is still… performance.

The day I won’t care about what I’m wearing on stage… is the day I won’t need to use it to command the room.

I’m working on it.

In rooms like this, we don’t discuss vanity metrics. We discuss positioning, leverage and long-term narrative control.

Because authority is no longer optional.

It’s a leadership necessity.

Do you have any business lessons for me?

7 out of 10 Indian Genz switch jobs after 1 year.  

Yesterday, when I read Anupam Mittal's take on Gen Z switching jobs, I gave it some thought, and I think they are not doing anything wrong. 

In the first year of our careers, we all want to explore opportunities, and that’s completely fine. 

I remember when I started my career, I switched 3 jobs in a span of two years, and still, I was not able to find my true passion. 

The company I left before starting Brand Carving was the one where I learned a lot and stayed for two years. 

See, at the end of the day, what really matters is the work you do. If you are able to convince the employer of the reason you left your last job, I think it’s completely fine. 

What I don’t think is right about Genz is the attitude they work with. I think discipline is something that’s lacking in them, and that’s where the game changes. 

Skills can be taught, but discipline comes from within. 
But the fact is, they are the future of the world; they are the next generation.

I once fired a client who paid every invoice early.

They approved every post we sent. Everything was always perfect.

By month three, I knew it was time to step back.

The problem was that they were nowhere in the content.

Every draft read like a company announcement, no personal inputs.

I'd ask them to share a real struggle from building their business, what frustrates them about their industry, and many more such questions. But I never got the right reply. 

One day, it clicked to me that I was ghostwriting for a ghost.

You can't build a founder brand when the founder won't show up.

The brands that actually break through talk about:

- The customer they lost because they messed up.
- The product launch was a hard lesson.
- The vulnerable behind-the-scenes moments that shaped them.

That's what people connect with.

So I ended the contract.

Working with such clients drains our energy and is also demotivating for the team. 

Do you think I made the right decision?

Two days away from work. Just to relax and reset. 

That’s what we all need. 

We get so busy in our lives that we often forget to take out some quality time for ourselves. 

Last Saturday, my husband and I went to Karma Lakelands in Manesar for a weekend getaway. 

The property is known for its beauty and sustainability. The entire property adheres to a ‘no-horn’ policy, and it implements practices such as rainwater harvesting, biocomposting, and solar energy.

We spent two days and really loved the overall vibe of the place. There were numerous activities available to make your stay memorable. 

Harshit and I both have hectic schedules, due to which we are not able to take out time for any such activities. 

A break from your work is often difficult to take, but sometimes it becomes important. 

Ashwani Khurana has created this beautiful property with such thoughtfulness and planning.

Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is relax. 

When was the last time you took a break from work?

2022: Started freelancing along with my full-time job 
2024: Left my secured job to start my own agency 
2025: Built my full-time team and worked with brands such as Mamaearth, Kazo, Google, Microsoft and many more 
2026: Scaling my agency  

In 2020, if someone had said I would be running my own business after 5 years, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Although I always wanted to build something of my own, I never had any idea or plan in mind. 

I have worked in 4 companies before starting my own. One thing was common in all: I never fully enjoyed it, although I learnt, and those things still help me. But never had that fulfillment. 

So when my freelancing was picking up, and I was getting good clients, then I realised the potential of personal branding. 

Many friends and family told me not to leave the job, just manage along with the job, but I didn’t listen to them. I wanted to give it my 100% and see the result. 

Today it’s been more than two years since I left my job and I haven’t regretted my decision any day. 

I truly love my work and enjoy every bit of it. 

Ups and downs are part of your journey; you cannot achieve success without facing challenges. I try to face every challenge with all the courage and come out stronger. 

How do you face challenges?

I earned 10,000 INR from my first freelance project. 

In 2022, when I secured my first client, I was overjoyed. I attended his call in the office and was very excited to start the work. 

It was an inbound lead through LinkedIn. 

I used to write content after work most of the time at night. Work during the weekends and holidays. I constantly keep upskilling myself to give my best to my clients. 

The first few clients teach you so many things that stay with you and help you throughout. 

My first client taught me: 

- How to create client contracts 
- How to handle client communication
- How to work on deadlines 
- How to deliver the best quality work 

Although the money was less but learning was huge, and you cannot put a price on that. 

I believe that the first few clients bring so much and lay the base for the future. 

I still remember how happy I was when I got the money from the client. 

Since then, there’s no looking back, and I have grown every single day. 

P.S. I don’t charge 10K now 😅

I lost 60% of my reach in two weeks back in January, and the reason surprised me.

Initially, I couldn't figure out why because my content was good, engagement was there, and comments were rolling in.

But then something clicked. I checked my comments.

The same 8 people were commenting on every post within minutes with things like "Great insights!" "Love this!" and "So true!"

Your inner circle means well, but they might be the reason your posts aren't going anywhere.
They were trying to help, but they were tanking my reach.

LinkedIn's algorithm isn't dumb. It sees patterns. When the same group shows up instantly with generic praise, it thinks you're gaming the system.

Your post gets labelled as low-quality, and your reach drops.

What actually works, real conversations.

One stranger asking a genuine question beats ten friends dropping fire emojis.

The algorithm doesn't reward loyalty, it rewards engagement that looks organic, comments that spark replies and threads that keep going.

Stop chasing comment counts, start chasing conversations that pull new people in.

That's when LinkedIn decides your content is worth showing to more feeds.

Personal branding is the cheapest distribution you’ll ever own.

Most startup founders buy attention because building a personal voice needs time.
You spend, see, reach, and get a few wins. Staying visible starts to depend on budget, not trust.

If you pause the spending, and the attention disappears.

I have seen founders put money into staying relevant, refreshing creatives, changing agencies, and chasing the same outcomes again.

At the same time, some founders keep showing up without selling.
They share what they are building, what broke, and what they are learning along the way.

Their audience does not vanish when the budget stops.

That is the difference.

Ads create reach for a moment, but personal branding creates memory over time.

→ Your thinking travels.

When people trust the person, the distribution does not need constant buying.

I lost real money in 2024 because I skipped some very basic LinkedIn profile checks.
It took me 13 calls to notice it.

A D2C founder spent 25 minutes asking about my process, nodding along. Then said "sounds good, but can you just handle our LinkedIn posts for $300 a month?"

I stared at my screen. This was the 12th call like this in three weeks.

I knew something was off. 13 calls in a row can't all be this similar. I was missing something big.
I pulled up my LinkedIn profile and finally saw the problem.

My headline said "Brand Strategist & Consultant" like every other person in my feed.

My About section was three paragraphs about my journey that nobody cared about.

My banner was very basic with just a tagline.

No wonder people were confused.

That weekend, I made three changes.

1. Headline became a clear message for my audience using the formula: who I help, what result they get, my method, and proof.

2. The About section started with the exact pain my clients feel. Then showed how I solved it for others. Then, one clear next step.

3. Created the banner that highlights proof of my work.

The next month, fewer people reached out.
But the conversations changed. People came in clearer.

They weren’t trying to compress strategy into a posting task.
Your LinkedIn profile has one job: filter out the wrong people so the right ones find you.

Prabhkiran Singh, Founder and CEO of BEWAKOOF®, has decided to leave the company. 

Yesterday, he posted the same on his LinkedIn post.  

A few weeks ago, Deepinder Goyal also posted about stepping away as Group CEO from Eternal. 

This is not uncommon. Nitin Agarwal from GlobalBees, Gaurav Munjal, and Roman Saini from Unacademy, among others, are doing the same. 

I think this highlights their maturity, they built something bigger than themselves, and now wanna evolve more.  

Years of hard work go into building a brand, and leaving that to move ahead is not easy. Your brand is your baby, and leaving your baby is not something you can do. Still, these folks have taken such decisions, and I think it’s only possible when you know you have done the job right. 

I also have one observation here: I think personal branding of these leaders has made things smooth for them.  

They are not just known by titles. They have created an impact with their stories, voice, and personality.  

Research says that a founder's strong personal brand increases consumer trust by 70%.  

Storytelling is one of the powerful ways to build a strong brand. 

These founders have leveraged personal branding rightly.  

Strongest founders don’t just build companies, they build credibility that goes beyond their titles. 

When you are not just recognised by your designation, stepping away becomes growth, not loss.

That’s the real power of personal branding: your reputation keeps growing, even when your role changes.
