Something special happens when you gather a group of entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators who are running after business as a force for good and open to bringing Jesus into the conversation. We weren't built to do this alone, but it's difficult to find folks who truly understand the highs and lows of company building. 

Huge shoutout to Brett Smith, Ann Eileen Thompson, Nick Jackson, Dave Knox, and Kevin Rains who helped me bring this tribe back together. 

Ann shared her C.A.L.L. framework for understanding vocation/calling. 

Brett touched on the highs and lows of the founders journey, the identity risk it presents, and how faith can be the great equalizer. 

Dave talked about vision, where it comes from, how it evolves, and chasing God-sized dreams tied to a purpose worth chasing. 

Nick broke down what legacy is, where it comes from (including a brief lesson on the root word, legate), and shared examples of the kind of legacy that I hope to leave behind. 

Kevin brought us home by moderating a panel discussion to further unpack. 

Any one of these folks could easily hold court on these topics for hours, so this was just a taste, but it sure left me wanting more.

We don't talk about marriage enough in entrepreneurship.

We’re quick to celebrate the founders in the spotlight (often rightfully so), but so often there is an unsung hero hiding in the background. Someone holding down the home and propping up that founder in ways no one else can.

A grounded marriage doesn’t just make life better; it makes you a better leader.
Founders who build from a place of relational stability are more resilient, more focused, and more courageous. When the most important parts of your life are secure, you’re free to swing harder.

Fitness, finances, and mental health are important, but a strong marriage might be the most overlooked competitive edge in an entrepreneur's journey.

Hope you’re able to find some time, a nice spot, and a cup of coffee to sit and reflect on your blessings this week. So good for the soul.

I always enjoy reading letters from Buffett; this one comes from his 2025 Thanksgiving letter (link below to the full letter). Never one to mince his words or suffer fools, Buffett fully acknowledges his own good fortune, including the simple blessing of where he was born. 

As you sit down to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, consider trying what has become a family tradition for the Metzner Tribe. Place an empty pitcher or vase in the center of your table, with a pot of water and a small cup beside it. One by one, take turns naming blessings (big or small) filling the small cup and pouring it into the bowl as you share. Keep going until the pitcher overflows, a powerful symbol of just how rich your lives are. Give thanks to God for your cup that overflows with blessings.

Today's DailyMo is one of those business building philosophies that shockingly few companies seem to pursue, despite how effective it is (and how much good it brings to the world).

As counterintuitive as it may seem, the Cathy family's focus on people over profits helped build one of the most profitable operations in the world. Despite a smaller footprint, lower brand visibility, and the seeming disadvantage of closing one day a week, Chick-fil-A consistently outperforms competitors on a per-location basis in both revenue and profitability. Turns out, when you take care of your customers and your team, they take care of the business.

Great companies aren’t built by reading books, attending startup events, or binging podcasts. You can study the playbook and follow the experts, but eventually you have to move. To act. To fall. You don’t build anything meaningful without taking hits. This process is painful, but it also unlocks the kind of wisdom no rulebook can teach.

If you are considering carving out time for reflection/planning (and I hope you are!), I have a routine that has worked well for me. 

Not suggesting this is the right way to do it (no such thing), but I used to spend way too much time thinking about how to spend my time reflecting, so I created this for myself. Link to my post with the details below, but here are a few highlights. 

- Reflect on the past year: for example, answer the question: what am I most proud of (personally and professionally)?

- Look ahead to what you want next year to look like: where do I want to go, what am I trying to learn, who do I want to grow closer to, etc

- Think big/weird: ask yourself a few questions that no one else will, like what is the most absurd idea I could chase next year
