My leadership resulted in achieving outstanding results, including being awarded Chick-fil-A's highest honor, the Symbol of Success Award, a record-breaking 6 times.  I also had the distinction of leading one of the company's fastest-growing restaurants for most of my career.

I possess a deep understanding of developing leaders at all levels and am skilled at building cohesive, motivated teams that consistently deliver exceptional customer service.

Recently, my focus has increasingly moved towards Founder, Business Owner and Family Office coaching and consulting for small-medium sized multi-unit enterprises.

Since 2009, I’ve been leading teams and financial results across industries and functions such as training and development, coaching/consulting, higher education, restaurants, coffee, retail, gas station & convenience stores, real estate and property management, manufacturing, publishing, media, marketing, finance, legal, and more.

Since 2016, I’ve been an Operations Consultant and Certified Executive Coach. I've served clients within the US Army, Chick-fil-A, Inc, Chick-fil-A Restaurants, Impact 360 Institute, Techvestor, BoomTown, Inside Real Estate, Barron Heating, Dixon Hall, Restoration Atlanta, Wheaton College, West Chester Permit, Heritage Bank, Neighborhood Concepts, and more.

I was commissioned in 2008 from Impact 360 Fellows Class II, received a certificate of completion from Chick-fil-A University in SERVE Model Leadership, earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Theology from The College at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and studied graduate level business courses at Columbus State University.

We’ve been quietly working on a program that is core to our identity.

The art of apprenticing was all but lost and is making a return.

We aim to develop 1M leaders by 2075. 

And pound for pound, the most effective way to do that is by reaching down to the next generation, pulling them up, and standing them on our shoulders.

I'm excited to be able to participate in the Pattern Talent sales and marketing internship that has been put on through GCU development! Huge thanks to Brad McDonald for his time and energy invested in our college. In this position, I will be working with my good friend Mason Lytle to improve Pattern Talent's sales and marketing processes, and I am thrilled to be a part of this growing organization.

The more time I spend as a business owner the more I feel tension between two different ways of engaging the world:

Being 
+
Doing

Taylor Jessup and I discuss this paradox frequently on The Daily Leader Podcast and it never ceases to amaze me how often we hear “Being” is the more important of the two.

At the end of the day, the obvious answer is that both modes of engaging are important in their own way at their own time, but what we’re trying to draw out is the notion that we all have different natural predispositions and inclinations.

And knowing that you do and how to leverage your dominant mode is critical.

Knowing how to guard against your weaknesses is similarly imperative. 

I am a Doer. And that means that when given an opportunity to take action, I almost always default against execution.

This has extremely negative consequences at times 😬.

But also, it makes it much more likely I will achieve my dreams…and possibly much more than I am currently envisioning🚀.

As I work with Leaders, I often find that Doers tend to start while Be-ers tend to sustain. Doers tend to go first, Be-ers tend to go with wisdom.

The framework isn’t perfect, but you can extrapolate it much further than those two examples just by arm-chair psychologizing your friends and family who Lead.

All art embodies some elements of science, so generalizations generally hold. Broadly speaking, that is. 😏

If you’re leveraging resources like consultants, executive coaches and others from the helping industries then you had better believe they are helping you from a particular vantage point.

They have a worldview and even the non directive questions they choose are an expression of that paradigm.

So, not only is it imperative that you understand the paradox, your natural predisposition but also that of your spouse, your team, your coaches, your key clients.

When you can read someone from the Being + Doing lens you can unlock access to how they think, how they behave and how they are influenced.

You can always give them the keys to your mind, so they can reciprocate an intentional way of trust building.

Are you a Be-er or a Doer?

I’ve been watching something closely for the last few years: 

The more I use my internal frustration and anger to fuel my performance, I find I am far more focused, task-efficient and able to work long, hard hours than otherwise.

I also happen to find that I am less interested in the needs of others, more self-oriented, ask less clarifying questions to clients and behave in a more impulsive way.

I also have more chest and joint pain, don’t sleep as well and bring fatigue into my workouts.

Productivity may not be what you think it is and it may not function how you think it does.

Getting more done faster isn’t the ultimate goal. 

Anger and frustration have their place and it’s critical, but it cannot become a way of life.

What if it fails?

So what?

What some of you call wisdom is actually cowardice.

What some of you call sustainable is actually sandbagging.

If you want to be a leader of consequence, the price of admission is the likelihood of pain, suffering and embarrassment.

May you embrace the suffering before you to see your vision transform the world.
