I'm Lauren. I'm a B2B marketer, speaker and educator, I help brands with AI and emerging tech to win in the next internet.

I'm a brand marketer, public speaker and community builder; having led Meta's #SheMeansBusiness program for EMEA and later leading B2B marketing in the UK for Amazon Ads.

I did a slightly woo-woo exercise 🔮 where I asked myself: what do I actually care about, who do I want to serve in the work I do in this space?

And the answer was clear: I want to help people who risk being left behind by the speed of change in technology.

- Older people being fleeced by synthetic voices
- Teens who need proper safeguarding in AI
- Women who step out to raise the next generation - and deserve to stay in the conversation

Then I asked myself, what’s one thing I can do right now to move towards that goal?

The answer: put on the Big Maternity Leave AI Upskill (try saying that quickly)

The changes in AI are happening so fast, it’s overwhelming even if you’re not in the chaos of nappy changes, sleepless nights and constant feeding.

So tag a mum, or whatsapp her:

In case you missed it.... umm another startup was pretending to be AI.

And dialling into people's private meetings as 'Fred from Fireflies AI' and just manually writing everything down.

I'm pro AI and innovation (and scrappiness), but even I haven't yet signed up to any meeting transcription AI tools because I don't fully trust it yet.

So this is a massive erosion of trust, at a time when people are just coming around to the idea of ceding their confidential information to companies... that might not even be around for long.

Weirder still, other startups and press are praising Fireflies for this early scrappiness which ultimately got them towards a $1 billion valuation.

Do you know how nerve-wracking it is to present your Canva-made slides on stage at Canva’s office, directly after the Canva team?! 

I was invited to talk about all things AI Powered Marketing, hopefully my graphic design skills were acceptable 🎨🖼️🤔

The main takeaways:
* AI in marketing is not as far along as LinkedIn would suggest - everybody’s talking about it, not everyone’s actually doing it.

* 56% of consumers prefer AI-generated marketing copy - this one is surprising (from a report by Semrush) but something of a relief to know if you do AI-Powered marketing *really well* it can land well with your customers 

* AI visibility should not be ignored - as marketers, we need to be optimising all of our touchpoints not just for human eyeballs but for, er, robot eyeballs. The race is on to get AI to recommend you!

BOOM I hit 20k on here last week so time for a reintroduction via my career story…

2011 - did my linguistics dissertation on how people construct identity on Facebook 🤓

2013 - moved to Berlin and did marketing for startups 

One startup ran out of money and asked me to work for free. Went home to London.

2014 - job in tech PR, got coverage in the Wall Street Journal, The Drum, The Times, and learned what makes a story. 

2016 - Marketing Manager for a digital agency

2017 - started a side hustle: a 1980s themed events series about the future of the creative industries (Power Suit Social)
 
2018 - launched a podcast, before everyone had a podcast. 

Same year - got a Head of Marketing job for an agency

2019 - 3 months into my new job I got headhunted by Facebook

Hosted International Women’s Day events
Ate a lot of free food at the canteen YUM crab linguine

End of 2020 - job contract was finishing, found out we were expecting a baby

Dun dun DUN, career game over 👾 

2021 - unemployed with a baby, decided to upskill in emerging technologies to get back into tech. 

2022 - Accidentally started a movement. Women of Web3 was born.

2023 - Gave a TEDx talk on the need for a more equitable internet 

Spoke at Chanel, British Airways, Cartier, VaynerMedia, University of Oxford
Partnered with Microsoft, Snapchat, Google Cloud, etc

2024 - Got a 12 month marketing role at Amazon to give me time to make a new plan

2025 - finished up at Amazon and a lot started happening!

Paid partnerships with brands, invites to private events, hosting more events…
(And some very big news which isn’t out yet but v soon!)

2026 - there will be some Big Lauren Energy ⚡️

You may have seen the Air Mail x Claude pop up in New York all over your feed recently, and they've now brought the experience to London.

I love how the Claude brand has such a focus on physical, tangible things and real craft - down to having hand drawn illustrations done by their in-house illustrator (love this), and physical bound copies of Dario Amodei's essays (Machines of Loving Grace).

For a company that's at the centre of the (incredibly) fast growing tech and AI space, I love how everything they do is considered and thoughtful. 

The pop up opens to the public today, so get yourself down to Marylebone this weekend and you may be able to get one of the coveted 'thinking caps' if Charlie Hills hasn't nabbed them all!!

I was getting fed up with the fact that the Eventbrite page for our Next Big Thing event isn't always rendering correctly - and frankly, the font was looking gross.

(I'm not a designer nor do I know how to code, but that is my evaluation)

So I took matters into my own hands:

1. Took inspo from a friend who built her event page on Lovable - Lucy Hall I grabbed the link to your recent AI in Marketing event and said COPY THIS 😳 

2. Grabbed all my colour hex codes and our logo

3. Chucked it all into ChatGPT first and said "Make me a perfect prompt for Lovable!" (as I didn't want to waste credits messing around)

4. Finessed until it behaved like I wanted - a little bit via writing, a little bit via click to visually edit.

Every time I talk about careers, or maternity leave, or I share an event... basically I get a lot of DMs from people who have been laid off.

In short, redundancy feels horrible.

It's never personal, but it's almost impossible to believe that when it happens to you.

So as ever, we are setting aside some bursary tickets for our AI Powered Marketing event on Wednesday night for anyone who can't afford it and/or you've been made redundant.

How do you end up writing a personality for an AI?

Georgia Lewis Anderson studied journalism and made a name for herself as a presenter on SBTV, Apple Music and Channel 4 before she applied for a mysterious 'pop culture writer' position in 2015.

It turned out to be working on the British personality of Microsoft's Cortana (remember Cortana??). The team wanted the AI to be witty, charming and understand cultural nuance.

Turns out it helps if you're not an engineer, but instead someone who knows how to write and speak in a way that can engage anyone - aka a broadcaster!

Georgia has since worked in this niche at Google and Meta, and more recently launched Lantyn Labs with fellow AI wizard Omar Karim.

Georgia will be speaking alongside me, Natalie Salmon and Kate Ross about the future of brand building in the AI era this Wednesday 😍 (last few tickets in the comments)
