Technical Program Management and Leadership

Technical Program Management. Its the craft of solving problems that come from scaled execution of strategically important initiatives.

That's a mouth-full! But it just boils down to the fact that TPM's get big complex things done.

Having spent a decade in various tech roles, I am able to successfully navigate the complex interdependencies of large initiatives. I practice the core skills of planning, stakeholder management, risk management, communication management, dependency management, system design, and leadership.

These can all be summed up in what I call The TPM Craft Framework: Program Management, Technical Versatility, and Leadership. In my newsletter (The TPM Craft), I regularly dive deep into those topics.

Outside of my 9-5 I spend time with my family, read books, write, exercise, watch movies....etc. No major special hobbies, mostly just family time.

I may not know everything, but I can learn anything.

Most engineering leaders can manage delivery. Fewer can walk into a room with data scientists, business analysts, solution architects, procurement, and legal  all with competing priorities and bring them to a shared decision.

I'm a Senior Engineering Manager at BT Group with 14 years across software testing, Agile coaching, site reliability engineering, and engineering leadership.

Recently, I led an enterprise Agentic AI feasibility program  evaluating AI agents capable of autonomously generating user stories for Business Analysts and producing solution architecture decisions directly from requirements. This was not a basic automation project. We were exploring whether AI agents could take goal-oriented, multi-step actions across complex engineering workflows.

 The program spanned stakeholder communities  from AWS Infra, BA, SA , Security, Legal, Procurement and Data scientist with genuinely conflicting views. 

I built a governance rhythm : 

1. Weekly decision summaries to all stakeholders
2. Private one-to-ones to surface real concerns
3. structured group sessions to create visible alignment that kept trust intact throughout.

I was recognized at a company all-hands for the stakeholder leadership on that program. That recognition meant more to me than any project that shipped cleanly. Because the hard ones are where leadership actually shows.

My next chapter is Senior Technical Program Manager for AI initiatives bringing together my SRE instinct for production risk, my EM experience with cross-cultural delivery, and my deep belief that the human side of a program is never separate from the technical side.

Outside of BT, I  have served as Program Director for Women in Agile and Tech, speak at international conferences, and write about identity, leadership, and what it actually takes to become the leader you're trying to be.

Over the years, she has grown into a leader known for guiding complex, high-stakes programmes, aligning cross-functional teams, and delivering strategic technology initiatives across distributed teams in India and the UK.

At BT Group, Jyoti has led the scaling of engineering teams, driven automation initiatives, and delivered critical platform transformations while strengthening collaboration between engineering and product teams. Her leadership has also focused on people and culture—rebuilding team trust, improving engagement, and creating psychologically safe environments that enable high performance. With experience across DevOps, SRE programmes, Agile delivery, and large-scale engineering operations, she continues to bring together technical rigour and human-centred leadership to drive impactful outcomes.
