In this role, I satisfy and exceed customer requirements for the application requests and sales of X-ray microscope inspections machines, and Computer Tomography (CT) in a customer facing role. I also provide virtual online and in-person product demonstrations via live-streaming technology, along with training on the use of the machines and visualisation software.

Thesis title: Failure and Damage Progression of 3D Woven Composite Structures Subjected to Out of Plane Loading

During my PhD I learnt to manufacture advanced composite materials using liquid resin infusion systems, RTM manufacture, and weaving of 3D woven carbon fibre composite material.

I also learnt to use Digital Image Correlation techniques to measure surface strain as a non-contact measurement method in order to gain a better picture of the failure and damage progression of the entirely new material.

I also developed a bespoke testing fixture after demonstrating existing testing mechanisms, (Short beam strength) were unsatisfactory in producing shear failure, and subsequently developed an entirely new testing methodology for testing this new material for shear failure. I am now working towards publishing the results in several journal papers, along with working towards generating an entirely new test standard using this fixture and methodology.

I tested two different weave architectures, orthogonal and angle weave, and highlighted the differences between them.

Finally I developed a finite element modelling method with good accuracy to model and predict the shear failure event of the orthogonal weave architecture, using a combination of CAD software, MATLAB and ABAQUS Explicit Finite Element Analysis software.
