This time last year I took a few months off LinkedIn.

This year feels different and it’s good to be back after a short break. 

I spent most of last year in coaching conversations with leaders who are winning on paper, but feel like they're losing in a few areas.

It's rarely the strategy that fails them.
It's often the rhythm. The pace. The stuff that happens when the laptop closes (if it does).

Some of this is what helped me come up with my closing words of every post I write here. 

A few things kept coming up so here are 9 of them that might just shift how you show up in 2026:

👉 Skills can get you in the door, but it's trust that helps you stay in the room.

👉 Who you work for matters more than what you do.

👉 Leadership shows itself in what you do, not just the title you have. Anyone can lead, no need to wait for the title.

👉 Your mental health isn't negotiable. No job, promotion, or pay rise is worth losing yourself over.

👉 Comfort keeps people stuck. If it doesn’t hurt enough, why bother changing..

👉 Feedback doesn't land if you just say you're "open" to it. You need to go out and ask for it.

👉 The culture and values you really live by are shaped more by what you ignore than what's written on the walls (stole this from my days at LinkedIn but it’s still a big theme!)

👉 Asking for help is a strong move, not a sign of weakness. The smartest people I know build their support before they need it.

👉 It's impact that counts, not hours wiggling the mouse. And you are far more than your job title. 

It's about shifting from squeezing more *out* of yourself or your team, to creating a standard that protects everyone's energy.

Having spent most of my career in sales and using different assessments at various stages, being trained on this one through OMG feels so solid.

Most sales coaching is based on gut feel.

A manager sees a problem (low pipeline, poor close rates) and offers advice based on what they *think* is the cause.

But they’re mostly just treating the symptoms. Not the root cause.

It’s draining for the leader and frustrating for the salesperson.

That’s why I’m pleased to share I’m now an Objective Management Group (OMG) Partner.

It’s like running a detailed health check on a sales team. It goes beyond surface-level skills to pinpoint the real reasons behind performance.

This thank you is about four months overdue.

Back in August, I signed up for a backyard ultra.  
A 6.7km loop. Every hour. On the hour.

My goal was to run more than 15km on the day (a first for me) and raise some money for Parkinson's UK.

So many of you generously chipped in.  
As a team, we raised almost £2,500.

I ended up running 4 loops so 26.8km.
And I was ready to keel over. 

I’m not naming anyone here because I want to thank everyone who supported this. Your messages and donations were a huge reminder that people really care. Couldn’t believe how many direct messages I received. Thank you 🙏 

Which brings me to my next challenge.
No raising funds this time.

I’m trying to take 2 minutes off my 5km time.

My baseline is around 23 minutes. My legs have *never* gone quicker than 22:30.  
The goal is 21 minutes in the next six months.

For some of you, that’s a warm-up. For me, it’s a big push. Writing it down even feels a bit off 👀

The training started in December, and honestly, the grey, cold days right now are pretty tough.

But there’s a sort of clarity in the hard work. A few reminders:  
👉 Accountability is real. Putting a goal out there, even a personal one, changes the game
👉 Progress isn’t a highlight reel. It’s about the small, consistent, dull stuff that no one notices

I'm sharing this partly to hold myself to it, and partly to finally thank those who got behind the last challenge.

I’d be interested to hear how you approach goals that feel just beyond reach. And any tips you have for me of course!
