Lendlease

As the Development Engagement Manager for Google/Lendlease's master plan projects in San
Jose, I was responsible for creating and implementing community engagement and Phase 0/interim
use strategies for the Downtown West development. My role included coordinating all aspects of
community and stakeholder involvement and ensuring collaboration between team members and
external consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
Co-Developed and executed the Engagement Plan, collaborating with project leadership and using
various engagement activities to build trust and establish relationships with diverse stakeholders and local residents

Implemented innovative pre-application engagement approaches, incorporating creative events and
interim uses to foster community interest and involvement

Led the placemaking execution of the Phase 0 Plan, working towards creating a vibrant, dynamic space that promoted connection, well-being, and social life, while collaborating with local and regional partners for long-term sustainability

Created all the schedules of events for the project by developing a network of local organizations and businesses, and supported the project team in designing and delivering interim use spaces
Established relationships with local, regional, and international talent and consultants to maximize the use of renovated buildings and adjacent lots, managed budgets, and incorporated input from project team members. 
Contributed to the creation and evolution of the Community and Stakeholder Engagement Plan,
ensuring local community insights were incorporated into project design and delivery
Served as a regular presence at project Community Hubs to facilitate ongoing engagement with the
community pre and post application

Built and led a strategic consultancy that helped organizations cut through market noise by creating immersive experiences people actually remembered. Over 10 years, produced dozens of large-scale projects across the US and Europe—festivals, product launches, viral campaigns, concerts, tech conferences, and yes, tea parties—for clients including Red Bull, TED, Doritos, and underground cultural innovators who were shaping what came next.

Our four-phase approach combined business rigor with creative ambition: feasibility analysis to assess market positioning and resource requirements, custom team assembly from our global network, hands-on production that brought concepts to life, and strategic storytelling that built audiences before the first door opened. We de-risked bold ideas through process, then executed them through partnerships.

Curated and managed an interdisciplinary network of artists, designers, technicians, master craftsmen, and strategists across multiple continents. We didn't just produce events—we solved business problems through experience design and social engineering, helping clients understand their audiences (and themselves) better in the process.

I spent those years working with startups, entrepreneurs, technologists, artists, musicians, inventors, and the occasional genius lunatic. The conviction that drove everything: A business without story and community is just a commodity without a soul. Cultural engineer and modern-day imaginer, Tyler Hanson, has spent the last 20 years traveling the world and working with creative individuals to produce extraordinary projects that combine one part Chimera and two parts imagination. Throughout his journey, he has contributed to the initiation, launch, and management of countless startups, websites, newspapers, art shows, collectives, products, festivals, and real-estate. Tyler is a multifaceted talent, known as a producer, creative director/designer, curator, social experimenter, comedian, talk show host, closet anthropologist, professional cat herder, experience economy evangelist, and an advocate for the belief that one person can change the world, incrementally.

Tyler's passion has always been centered on connecting artists with projects and people with art. This exploration and collaborative experience led to the conception of Kulturehaus (KH), which operated from 2008-2020. As a gateway to the creative world, KH served as a comprehensive consulting agency that united influential artists, ideas, and rising cultural movements with integrated live events and creative environments, resulting in undeniably unique art experiences. These memorable, one-of-a-kind moments were crafted to leave a lasting impression. Tyler has utilized every communicative platform, from smoke signals to social media, and from VR and AI to the Metaverse, always aiming to be a bridge for creative minds seeking innovative projects and attracting people from around the world who strive to stand out in a loud and homogenous reality. In 2016, drawing on his extensive expertise in immersive experience, storytelling, marketing and startups, Tyler transitioned to placemaking for real estate developments eventually working for Google/Lendlease on their massive redevelopment of Downtown West San Jose project. Today, you can find him working with his Partners, The Grand Artique, on their own immersive experience in his hometown of Reno NV.
