We first had it back in November when we went to "Louis" in Manchester and it was THE best pasta we'd both ever tasted.

I said to Alex, "you've got the culinary skills, why not recreate it for dinner on New Year's Eve?"

So she did.

Amazing, and even better than in the restaurant IMO.

It was so good that we're swapping out our weekly pizza on Friday nights and going to alternate with this - Pizza one week, Vodka Rigatoni the next.

Ingredients: 

Pasta, olive oil, shallot + garlic, tomato paste, vodka, heavy cream (loads), Pancetta, red pepper flakes, butter, parmesan cheese, salt + pepper. 

I had a cheeky little baked chicken breast on the side as I wanted extra protein, but you don't have to do that.

Dry January is well and truly happening 🤣

The UK just banned junk food ads before 9pm. Sounds great, right?


Expected to remove 7.2 billion calories from kids' diets annually and reduce childhood obesity by 20,000.

Here's the problem:

By the time kids start primary school, 22% are already overweight or obese. 

That rises to 36% by the time they leave.

And none of that is happening because of TV ads.

It's happening at the dinner table. 

In the kitchen. 

When dad's ordering takeaway for the third time this week because "it's been a long day."

Plus, there's a massive loophole in this ban. Brands can still advertise themselves, just not specific products. 

McDonald's can still show their logo and branding before 9pm, just not the actual burger.

And outdoor advertising - billboards, bus shelters, isn't even covered by the ban.

Meanwhile, when the government introduced the sugar tax in 2018, they actually achieved a 35% reduction in sugar sales from soft drinks. Why? 

Because they targeted the PRODUCT, not the advertising.

Research is clear. 

Kids model their eating behaviours on their parents. 

Your relationship with food becomes their relationship with food.

If you're prioritising convenience over nutrition, they learn that's normal.

If you're skipping meals then binging at night, they're watching.

If you're saying "I'll start Monday" every single week, they're learning that discipline is optional.

The government can ban ads all they want.

But they can't ban what your kids see at home - the most powerful advertising they'll ever be exposed to.

Start by being a healthy parent.

Show them what consistent nutrition looks like. 

What moving your body daily looks like. 

What NOT making excuses looks like.

Because they're not learning health from TV.

How I eat A LOT of food without gaining weight.
(My clients drop fat every week using the exact strategy)

No, I don't have magical genetics.

I'm 52 years old with a slower metabolism than a sloth on sedatives.

But the other day I ate:

- 4 eggs with toast for breakfast
- Massive chicken salad with a whole baked potato for lunch
- Full plate of prawn stir-fry with noodles for dinner
- Greek yogurt, apple, and popcorn as snacks

I was stuffed all day.

Felt like I was eating non-stop.

And I still woke up lighter this morning.

How?

I ate 2,100 calories across those meals.

Which keeps me in a deficit.

But here's the trick most people miss:

VOLUME ≠ CALORIES

You can eat a massive amount of food for very few calories.

Or you can eat a tiny amount of food for loads of calories.

Let me show you the difference:

SCENARIO 1 (High Volume, Low Calorie):
- 300g chicken breast = 495 cal
- 400g roasted veg = 140 cal  
- 200g baked potato = 154 cal
- Total = 789 calories

You'd struggle to finish this plate.

SCENARIO 2 (Low Volume, High Calorie):
- Medium Pret sandwich = 450 cal
- Bag of crisps = 180 cal
- Can of Coke = 139 cal
- Total = 769 calories

You'd be hungry again in 2 hours.

Same calories.

Completely different satiety.

This is why most people struggle with fat loss.

They're eating calorie-dense foods that leave them starving.

Then they rely on willpower to white-knuckle through the hunger.

And eventually?

Willpower runs out.

"Sod it" mode activates.

And they're face-deep in a Domino's pizza at 9pm.

I don't do that.

Ten hills I’d die on (fitness edition) (okay, eleven)


1. Seed oils aren’t killing you. 

The 17 pints and takeaways every weekend are. Stop blaming olive oil alternatives for your lack of discipline.

2. The carnivore diet is a cult masquerading as nutrition science. 

Humans didn’t evolve eating only ribeye steaks. Eat your vegetables, you’re not a lion.

3. Football is the greatest sport ever created and Maradona is the GOAT. 

Hand of God included. Americans calling it “soccer” can sit this one out.

4. Sugar isn’t addictive. 

You just have zero self-control around Haribo. There’s a difference between liking something and having a medical dependency.

5. The body positivity movement was a mare. 

Celebrating obesity isn’t progressive, it’s dangerous. You can love yourself AND want to be healthier.

6. Darts is not a sport. It’s a pub game. 

If you can do it with a pint in one hand, it’s not athletic competition. I said what I said.

7. Pizza is the food of the gods. 

A proper Neapolitan margherita is nutritional perfection - carbs, protein, fats, and it fits your macros. Anyone who disagrees is lying to themselves.

8. Fasted cardio is pointless. 

Total calorie deficit over time is what matters. Do your cardio whenever you’ll actually do it consistently.

9. “I don’t have time” is bollocks. 

You have time for Netflix, scrolling, and Sunday pub sessions. We all make time for the things we value. You just don’t prioritise your health. 

10. Walking is the MVP of fat loss and health. 

10,000 steps beats your 45-minute HIIT session any day. Unsexy but effective. Do the boring work.

11. The “dad bod” myth needs to die. 

No woman (or man) genuinely prefers an out-of-shape man. You’re confusing unconditional love with physical attraction. There’s a difference.

You need to go all in.

Not on everything. 

On the right things.

Don’t add more to your life.

Focus on what actually moves the needle.

NEVER EVER weigh yourself the morning after a big meal.

I've seen sooo many chaps quit because of this.

Here's what happens:

Let’s say you crush a steak dinner with your clients on Saturday night.

Fries. Wine. Dessert. You name it.

Then you step on the scale the day after.

*Up 4 lbs.*

Your face: 🤡 

Panic sets in.

"I ruined everything."
"This will never work."
"I'm back to square one."

But here's the truth:

You didn't gain 4 lbs of fat overnight.

It's physically impossible.

To gain 1 lb of actual fat, you'd need to eat 3,500 calories OVER your maintenance.

So to gain 4 lbs of fat in one night, you'd need to eat 14,000 calories over maintenance.

Unless you're competing in eating contests, that didn't happen.

So what's that extra weight?

It's not fat. It's:

→ Water retention (sodium from the meal makes you hold water)
→ Food volume (that steak is still sitting in your digestive system)
→ Glycogen storage (carbs store water in your muscles)

That "weight" will be gone in 2-3 days if you just get back on track.

But most people don't know this.

So they see the scale spike, freak out, and think:

"Screw it. I already ruined it. Might as well keep eating."

And THAT'S when you actually ruin it.
