A lot of people DM me this 👇

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Only if you do it strategically.

If I had to start today with absolute zero cybersecurity experience, this is exactly what I’d do step by step.

Step 1: Pick ONE cybersecurity lane

Cybersecurity is not one job.
It’s an umbrella.
❌ “I want a cybersecurity job”
✅ “I want this cybersecurity role”
You can choose:
🔹 SOC Analyst (fastest entry)
🔹 GRC Analyst (non-technical path)
🔹 Network / App Security
🔹 Cloud Security

👉 Pick one lane.
👉 Go deep.
👉 Ignore the rest (for now).

Step 2: Skill up

This is where most beginners mess up.
They see:

❌ Expensive bootcamps
❌ Too much noise

Instead:

➡️ Pair it with hands-on labs

Step 3: Build proof, not promises

Recruiters don’t care what you say you know.

We don’t just need better cybersecurity tools.
We need more people in cybersecurity. Period.

Right now, digital systems are growing faster than the number of humans protecting them. And that imbalance is risky, not just for companies, but for society as a whole.

Cybersecurity isn’t a niche anymore.
It touches healthcare, finance, public infrastructure, supply chains, and everyday personal data. Yet too many capable people still think “this field isn’t for me”.

That belief is the real gap.
Cybersecurity doesn’t need only elite hackers or deep coders.

If you can do decently well in a career you never consciously picked…
Imagine how you’d perform in a space you chose with clarity.

A space aligned with your curiosity.
Your long-term thinking.
Your values.

This is exactly why I often see people thrive when they step into a field they opt into, rather than inherit.
Not because the field is easy.
But because the decision was deliberate.
And deliberate decisions change how you show up.

Listen to it.

You don’t need permission to want more for yourself.

A while ago, I got a message that genuinely stuck with me.

“Hi… I’m from a non-technical background. I’ve been in HR for years, 
but I want to move into cybersecurity. Be honest, am I being unrealistic?”

Let’s call her Annie.
Annie had built a solid career.

She understood people, processes, confidentiality, and risk.
But none of that sounded like cybersecurity to her.

What she saw online was intimidating:
• Complex job descriptions
• Heavy technical jargon
• A narrative that cyber is only for coders

So she assumed:
“If I didn’t start early, I missed the window.”
That assumption is where most people get stuck.
The truth is, cybersecurity doesn’t just need technical depth.
It needs judgment. Context. Communication. Ethics. Risk awareness.

Things Annie was already doing every day.
She didn’t need to “start from zero.”
She needed to reframe what she already knew.

Instead of asking:
“How do I become technical enough?”

She learned to ask:
“How does my existing experience reduce risk?”

That mindset shift changed everything.
She focused on one entry path.
Built hands-on exposure instead of collecting certificates.

Learned how security teams actually think, not how job descriptions sound.
And most importantly, she stopped trying to look technical and started learning how to think in security terms.

The biggest blocker to career pivots isn’t lack of ability.
It’s believing you don’t belong before you even begin.
Cybersecurity isn’t a closed club.

1/ Am I moving toward security or just staying comfortable?

↳ Ask yourself which of these could translate into security

2/ What am I avoiding because starting over feels scary?
Career pivots feel uncomfortable before they feel right. The hesitation usually means something matters.

Cybersecurity isn’t just about code.

International Women’s Day deserves deeper reflection.

Progress begins when access becomes real.

International Women’s Day isn’t about celebration alone.

It’s about access.

In cybersecurity, talent isn’t scarce.

Opportunity and clarity often are.

Over the years I’ve mentored women who were told:

“You’re not technical enough.”
“You started too late.”
“You don’t fit the mould.”

And yet, many of them were already leading.

Leading quietly.
Leading under pressure.
Leading without the title.

The problem isn’t capability.

It’s visibility.
It’s sponsorship.
It’s confidence shaped by environment.

Real inclusion isn’t symbolic.

It’s structural.

When women are given:

• structured pathways
• credible mentorship
• commercial exposure
• leadership signal clarity

progress accelerates.

Not because standards lower.

But because barriers shrink.

So today, instead of another celebration post, I think there are three things every woman in this industry should pause and reflect on:

1. Your access
Sometimes talent isn’t the barrier.
Access and opportunity are.

2. Your belief in yourself
The world will question you many times.
Don’t let those voices become your own.

3. Your idea of leadership
Leadership doesn’t always look impressive.
Often it’s consistency, courage, and quiet influence.

Because women don’t just belong in this industry.

They strengthen it.

We’re living in a world where skills are overtaking degrees.
And cybersecurity is one skill you should seriously consider.

A degree can open a door.
But skills keep you in the room.

Today, organisations care less about where you studied and more about:
