In 2017 I branched out … I co-founded a telehealth website where we helped people overcome excess drinking through medication-assisted treatment and personal development coaching.

What’s the link to lawyering?

As a lawyer, I defend against injury cases that require a deep understanding of medicine and psychology. 

I’ve deposed over 300 doctors and mental health providers, diving into medical and psychological concepts at their level.

I transferred that skill set, along with years of solving problems for clients, into the wellness and personal growth space.

I applied my analytical skills, the same I use to dissect real-world, complex legal cases, to pick apart the science behind personal development.

I crafted not just medical solutions (through the doctors we contracted with) but also systemized, actionable, personal growth training for our patients.

And we didn’t just aim to restore patients to an average level of health...

Since 1993, Denmark has required every child aged 6-16 to take a weekly empathy class.

Not as an add-on. Not as a nice-to-have.
As a core part of education.

The outcome?

It raises a powerful question for all of us; parents, leaders, educators, and employers:

Things Happening In This Lifetime

True happiness at work comes from feeling valued, not just employed.

Most people think having a job equals happiness.
They're wrong.

Being employed is basic:
You show up.
You get paid.
You do what's asked.

Being valued is different:

Your ideas get heard in meetings.
Your manager asks for your input on big decisions.
You see a path forward, not just another day.
People notice when you're not there.
Your growth matters as much as your output.

Lately, I’ve been reminded that compensation can attract talent, but culture is what truly retains it.
✨ Culture is how people feel on a Monday morning.
✨ Culture is whether ideas are heard or ignored.
✨ Culture is the difference between “I have to go to work” and “I want to show up.”

Teams thrive when:
 • Psychological safety is real
 • Leadership is human, not hierarchical
 • Growth is encouraged, not controlled
 • Contribution is recognized, not assumed

At the end of the day, people don't leave companies…
They leave cultures that exhaust them, and stay for cultures that empower them.

As a recruiter, I’ve had thousands of conversations with candidates.
And there’s one theme that comes up far more often than salary, perks, or titles:
👉 “I’m not leaving for more money. I’m leaving for my sanity.”

A few months ago, I spoke with a candidate who looked incredible on paper, loyal, top performer, glowing recommendations.

But when I asked the simple question, “Why are you exploring new opportunities?”
she paused… and then said quietly:
“I don’t feel seen anymore.”

She described:
A toxic culture where blame spread faster than feedback
A micromanager who reviewed every email
Burnout schedules expected as the “new normal”
Zero growth because leadership kept moving the goalposts
Feeling undervalued, no matter how much she delivered

She didn’t want a higher title.
She didn’t want a massive raise.
She just wanted to feel respected and trusted again.

And here’s what I’ve learned from being on the frontlines of talent:
