What’s the link to lawyering?

As a lawyer, I defend against injury cases that require a deep understanding of medicine and psychology. 

I’ve deposed over 300 doctors and mental health providers, diving into medical and psychological concepts at their level.

I transferred that skill set, along with years of solving problems for clients, into the wellness and personal growth space.

I applied my analytical skills, the same I use to dissect real-world, complex legal cases, to pick apart the science behind personal development.

I crafted not just medical solutions (through the doctors we contracted with) but also systemized, actionable, personal growth training for our patients.

And we didn’t just aim to restore patients to an average level of health...

I Speak It Before I See It. A Job Search Prayer. 

Every day of my job search, I didn’t just send applications, I spoke my vision out loud.

I didn’t ask for any job.

I asked for alignment.

A place that honors my time, my energy, my boundaries so I can show up as my best self.

Leaders who lead with inspiration, not ego.

A team that values people before performance.

I asked for stability not survival.

For the freedom to care for my child without counting every dollar or losing sleep over bills.

I asked for growth. For recognition. For space to be seen, not just managed.

I prayed for real support, healthcare, security, and peace of mind not as perks, but as proof that people matter.

And I prayed for a role where I could bring all of me, my ideas, my voice, my authenticity without having to shrink to fit.

Most of all, I prayed for peace.

For joy.

For purpose.

For a place where I could thrive as a professional, a parent, and a person. If you’re still in that waiting season keep going.

Keep preparing.

Keep believing.

Because when the right door opens, it won’t just offer a paycheck. It’ll offer alignment.

If it costs you your mental health, it’s too expensive.
Read that again.

No job, title, or paycheck is worth losing yourself.

It’s better to choose peace of mind than:
• Bad bosses
• Long hours
• Bad clients
• A big salary
• Crazy deadlines
• Too many meetings
• Toxic workplace cultures
• A fancy job title with no freedom

I learned this the hard way. I once stayed in a job that slowly destroyed my mental health. By the time I left, the damage was already done. Years of anxiety.
Burnout I couldn’t “push through.”

Looking back?

Not worth it. Ever.

Because if you don’t have peace of mind, you don’t really have anything.
Your health is the foundation.
Your work should support your life, not consume it.

Everything feels urgent, until your body reminds you what truly is.

Suddenly, that “critical” deadline doesn’t matter.

I learned this the hard way watching my sister.

A dedicated doctor, studying for her super-specialization.

At 35, she suffered a brain stroke.

It wasn’t bad luck. It was burnout.

Her body remembered every skipped meal, every sleepless night.

When health forces you to stop:

When you pray for a job, look deeper.
Because a paycheck alone won't fulfill you.

I recently spoke to a candidate who seemed perfect on paper, great salary, benefits, the works.

But halfway through our chat, her voice cracked.
"Every morning, I sit in my car for 10 minutes before walking in.
Not because I'm lazy.
But because I have to mentally brace myself for the day ahead."

That’s when it hit me:

She didn’t need another job.

She needed respect, growth, and peace.

People never forget the person who took a chance on them. Be that person.

I watched this play out firsthand as a recruiter.

Many resumes have crossed my desk with red flags everywhere.
Career gaps spanning years.
Cancer treatment.
Caring for a dying parent.
Raising children as a stay-at-home mom.
Moving countries and starting over.

Most hiring managers took one look and passed.
"Too many gaps."
"Inconsistent work history."
"Not what we're looking for."

But one hiring manager I worked with saw something different.

She looked past the gaps.
Past the unconventional timeline.
She saw resilience.
She saw someone who had faced real challenges and kept going.

She took the chance.

That candidate who had recently battled cancer?
Became one of their most dedicated employees.
Showed up early, stayed late.
Brought perspective others couldn't.
Had gratitude that was infectious.
Mentored younger team members with wisdom earned through struggle.

Three years later, they're still there.
Still exceeding expectations.
Still grateful for that one person who saw potential instead of problems.

Career gaps don't tell the story of inability.
They tell the story of life happening.
Of priorities.
Of courage.
Of coming back stronger.

The best employees I've placed weren't always the ones with perfect resumes.
They were the ones who had something to prove.
Who understood the value of opportunity.
Who brought depth that only comes from real experience.

Next time you see a resume with gaps, pause.
Ask questions.
Listen to the story.
Look for the strength it took to get back in the game.

Someone is waiting for you to be the person who takes a chance.
