I spent 14 years climbing the corporate ladder in pursuit of success. 

However, after years of long days and late nights with little to show for it, I knew I had to make a change.

That day was the 7th of February 2023.

With our second son due in just 5 weeks, I had no other choice but to follow my dream, start a business, and make it a success.

The first week was filled with crippling anxiety and self doubt.

Most people lose deals long before the sales call even starts, and they don’t realise why.

Since starting in business nearly three years ago, I’ve done deals of all sizes.

In my corporate sales career, they were in excess of £1,000,000.

Across all of it, the pattern is the same.

If any of these five fundamentals are missing, the deal is lost before you ever get to the close.

1. Clarity:
You must be able to articulate the prospect’s problem more clearly than they can themselves.

2. Direction:
You must show them a simple, believable path from where they are to where they want to be.

3. Positioning:
You must make your offer the most logical vehicle to get them there, not just another option.

4. Certainty:
You must remove the doubts they won’t say out loud, the risk, the friction, the internal hesitations.

5. Decision Ease:
You must make the next step feel obvious, safe and worth acting on now, not later.

Business is simply a solution to a problem.

Nothing more complex than that.

So if you’re struggling to get new opportunities through the door, are you clearly showing people that you understand their problem better than they do?

If you’re not closing your sales calls, are you genuinely removing the uncertainty that stops them moving forward?

Get the foundations right, and every part of your sales process becomes easier.

Before I get into this post, I want to make something clear.

I don’t think I’m special, I don’t think I’ve achieved anything unbelievable, and I definitely don’t think I’m “great.”

I don’t see myself that way at all.

But I do know my story could help people who grew up like I did, people who feel lost, alone, or already written off.

Especially younger people who feel like their future is already decided for them.

Recently, someone told me I was the most positive person in their life.

Honestly, it caught me off guard.

They asked me why I’m like that.
I paused, thought about it, and said…

“What are the alternatives?”

That moment made me reflect on my life and how I actually got to where I am today.

Years ago, Tracy Davies gifted me a book called The Happiness Advantage. (You probably won’t even remember giving it to me, Tracy… haha!)

Reading it again made me realise how much my journey has been shaped by three things:

Positivity,
Dreaming BIG,
Trusting myself,
And most importantly, enjoying the journey.

I feel lucky that people see me as positive, I really do.

I left school at 15 with nothing.

No grades, no direction, a broken family, the wrong crowd, and a future that was heading down a road I didn’t want to follow.

I didn’t have people fixing my problems or guiding me.

I had to figure things out alone, and over time that “lone wolf” mentality became my superpower.

Because when you learn to rely on yourself, you learn to trust yourself.

And that’s when everything starts to change.

Here are some real-life examples of what you can achieve when you dream big, trust yourself, and stay positive:

➡️ Became a chef at 16, aimed for Michelin level, reached it by 21
➡️ Knew the lifestyle wasn’t sustainable, googled “how to make £100k”, called 9 B2B sales companies, 8 rejections before the 9th gave me a shot
➡️ Threw myself into sales, set a goal for management in month one, hit it in 7 months
➡️ Committed to a 5-hour round trip to London every day for almost 3 years, doubled my income
➡️ Wanted more freedom and family time, quit my 6-figure job with 7 days’ notice and a baby due in 5 weeks to start my first business
➡️ First week was pure anxiety, but I backed myself, replaced my income in 28 days, and 4x’d it in 77

None of this would have been possible without dreaming big, trusting myself, and taking action.

Fast forward to today, I’m 37 and running Sales Fit Acquisition with the same dream-big attitude that got me here.

December is here! Let the fun begin.

This photo means more to me than any business win ever could.

It was taken 5 weeks after I lost my job.

5 weeks after I decided to bet on myself and start a business.
And just a few hours after Albie was born.

He came into the world early.
And he came in fighting.

The first two weeks of his life were filled with tubes, tests, and uncertainty.

We didn’t sleep.
We didn’t relax.
We just waited and hoped.

At the same time, I was trying to build a business from scratch.
With no backup.
Zero savings.
And no clue what tomorrow looked like.

People talk about entrepreneurship like it’s exciting.
Like it’s full of wins and content and confidence.

But this was my start.

Terrified.
Exhausted.
And holding my newborn son while hoping my business didn’t fall apart before it began.

I’ve been through a lot in the last 3 years.
But nothing has shaped me more than this.

It taught me what pressure really feels like.
It taught me how much I could take.
And it showed me exactly why I was doing this.

Not for LinkedIn content.
Not for income milestones.
But for them.

I love cold outreach.

Cold Calling.
LinkedIn DMs.

All of it, all completely cold.

You don’t hear that often, do you?

Because LinkedIn is flooded with gurus preaching the same soft, slow strategies:

“Just create content.”
“Comment more.”
“Add value.”
“Wait for inbound.”

It sounds lovely.

It’s also the reason so many businesses grow at a snail’s pace.

If you’re not prioritising cold outreach right now.

Take a hard look at your strategy, because someone else is out there winning the deals you’re not brave enough to go after.

One quote from Justin Welsh changed everything for me:

“Did you know people are willing to pay you 5 times more than your current employer for the exact same knowledge?”

He was 100% right.

After working with hundreds of business owners and speaking to thousands more, I’ve seen this play out over and over again.

Packaging your existing knowledge into a clear offer is hands down the fastest way to build short, medium, and long-term success.

People don’t pay for fancy logos or strategy packs.
They pay for solutions.

And being just a few steps ahead is usually more than enough for this to work.

People talk about “lonely at the top” like it’s some kind of motivational quote.

But it’s not.

It’s real.
It’s quiet.
And it creeps in without warning.

One minute you’re focused on building the thing.
Next minute, it’s 1am.

No one to bounce ideas off.
No one to tell you if you’re heading in the right direction.
Just you… staring at the same screen you’ve had open for hours.

And no, this isn’t some “look how hard I work” moment.
It’s just what happens when you go all in.

You carry the risk.
You carry the pressure.
You carry the doubt.

When I started my business, it was chaos.
A baby in hospital.
No income.
No clients.

But every night I sat there.
Not because I was inspired.
Because I didn’t have a choice.

Some days you feel like it’s all moving.

Others, like you’ve built something that could fall apart at any second.

That’s the part no one claps for.
That’s the real bit.

And if you’re in that place right now, wondering if it’s meant to feel like this

It is.

You’re not lost.
You’re just building something that hasn’t taken off yet.

Keep going.
Not louder.
Just longer.

For anyone building a business and starting to panic, read this.

December can be brutal.

Here’s one simple piece of advice that changes the game:

Double down.

Double down on your energy.
Double down on your discipline.
And most of all, double down on your outreach.

Most companies go quiet in December, which hands you an opening.

Don’t stress if they don’t want to jump on a call this month. Offer January instead:

“No worries at all, December isn’t usually the month for starting new conversations.

I'm really keen to discuss this with you, so why don’t we do this? I’ll send over a placeholder for the second week of January, so we’ve both got something to aim for?”

Will a few fall through? Of course!
But not many.

And if you stay consistent, you’ll roll into January with 10–15 new calls already locked in, ready to hit the ground running while everyone else is warming up.

Don’t let December kill your spark.

It’s a joke, nothing scandalous ever happened!

However, now I’ve got your attention.

Let me tell you why I’m actually writing this.

I’ve spent the last 11 months speaking to hundreds of people, clients, founders, sales professionals, people at every stage of life. 

And there’s a pattern that’s too hard to ignore.

So many people are one small shift away from being genuinely happy, yet they keep living the same day on repeat. 

Not because they lack talent, time or opportunity, but because they’re waiting for the perfect moment.

Meanwhile, 2026 is only 29 days away.

And I can’t shake the thought that someone needs to say this clearly, so I will.

If you want next year to be the best year of your life, if you want to feel in control, confident and genuinely excited about where your life is heading, then what I’m about to say matters.

If you’re completely happy with your life as it is, stop reading. Enjoy it, hold onto it, nothing I say here is urgent for you.

But if you feel stuck, frustrated or deep down you know you’re meant for more, then this is for you.

Here’s the truth I’ve seen again and again this year.

People who win are not the ones who have the most resources, confidence or luck. They are the ones who stop accepting a life that feels smaller than the one they want.

And you, whether you believe it yet or not, are far closer to the life you want than you think.

Closer to more time with your kids,
closer to more freedom,
closer to more money,
closer to waking up with energy instead of heaviness.

You are not stuck, you are just avoiding the first uncomfortable step. And that is good news, because it means you can change direction quickly.

Here are the three decisions that shift everything fast:

1. Pinpoint the exact thing making you unhappy.
Clarity creates control.

2. Choose two actions you can take today.
Immediate steps create immediate momentum.

3. Take action now.
Action breaks the cycle and sparks fast change.

You are not 10 years away from your dream life, you are not even 10 months away.

You are three decisions away from walking into 2026 as a completely different version of yourself.

Make these next 29 days count and step into the year you actually want to live.

Endless admin.

Give a government AI and a digital ID system and you can:

•	Monitor spending
•	Scan messages and posts

If you shrug and say “it will be fine”, you are handing the keys to people who have not earned that level of trust.

Just look at how well our govt is managing this sh*t show at the moment!!

I do not have all the answers.

But I know this much:

We should be pushing back, asking harder questions and refusing to sleepwalk into a system that treats ordinary citizens like suspects by default.

Once that is in place, you do not get it back.

This is on behalf of people you say you want to help.

Entrepreneurs, founders, business owners, CEOs.

You say you want growth.

Yet everything you do has the opposite effect.

Right now, Britain feels like a hostile environment for people like us.

We get up early.
We worry about payroll.
We sign personal guarantees.
We lie awake at 3am wondering how to keep the lights on.

Yet get treated like the unlimited tax cash cow.

We have a culture that resents success and rewards dependency.

After the war, 2%of working age adults were not working.

Today there are 40 million eligible to work and 11 million simply do not.

You are encouraging failure and killing work ethic.

The state has swollen to the point where nearly half of everything this country produces is spent by government. 

Yet nothing works.

The NHS is creaking.
Trains are a joke.
Roads are crumbling.
Schools are stretched.

We have: 

More tax.
More dystopian rules.
More hostility to people who take risk.

And lying to justify tax increases.

You talk about growth while you quietly suffocate the people who create it.

If you work hard, take risk, put your own money on the line and try to build something, we will treat you like a walking wallet!

If you opt out, if you stay on the sidelines, if you let the state carry you, we will cushion you.

That is how you kill a country.

It's not just billionaires and non doms leaving.

It is the 25 to 40 year olds.
 
The people who would have built the next generation of British businesses.

They look at their tax bill, house prices, the sheer weight of red tape and they leave.

That should shame every serious person in Westminster.

This country should be a magnet for ambition.
 
We have world class talent.
 
We have a reputation for innovation, creativity and graft.
 
We should be the best place in the world to start a business and build a life.

Instead, it feels like we are punishing the people who try.

Most entrepreneurs I know are happy to pay their share.
 
We want good hospitals, good schools, safe streets.
 
We want the country to work.

What we are tired of is being treated as an endless source of money while watching a bloated system burn it.

Reward work, not idleness.
 
Make it worthwhile to take a job instead of staying on benefits.
 
Back small businesses with simple rules rather than endless red tape.
 
Encourage investment and risk taking instead of driving it offshore.
 
Send a clear signal that Britain is open for business, not open season on wealth creators.

If you cannot or will not do that, then be honest and say it.

Because out here in the real world, entrepreneurs, leaders and hard working people have had enough.

We will keep taking personal responsibility.
 
We will keep finding ways to look after our families.
 
We will keep building.

The question is whether we will still be doing it here.

I see middle aged men happily destroy themselves on a spin bike for 45 minutes.

Sweat everywhere.
Heart rate through the roof.
Fully committed.

Ask the same men to:
• Post 3 times a week
• Send 5 DMs a day
• Stick at it for 90 days

Suddenly it is “not really my thing” and “I do not want to annoy people”.

You will hammer your body in a dark room to feel better.
 
But you will not build a simple habit that could take you from relying on referrals to having a reliable pipeline.

Here is what I have learned from the gym and from LinkedIn:

Discipline in small, boring things is what changes your life.

For founders on here that looks like:
• 20 minutes a day to write or approve a post
• 15 minutes to talk to people in the comments like a human
• 15 minutes to DM the ones who clearly get it

Not inspirational.
Not sexy.

But it is how you go from zero leads all year to:
• A small number of good conversations every week
• Options
• A little less panic when an existing client leaves

If you can commit to the bike but not to your own pipeline, your priorities are backwards.

Here’s the thing.

With social media you leave a digital footprint.

This can either be a very good thing.

Or it can work out to be quite inconvenient.

If you’re inconsistent.

Or worse…

You’re a duplicitous, hypocritical liar who constantly lives by double standards, deception and deceit!

There’s lessons in this for leaders.

Not just global leaders.

Business owners of businesses of all sizes too.

Social media can be used in an incredibly useful number of ways.

- grow your network
- build an audience
- build connection.
- generate leads
- attract candidates
- launch products or services
- build relationships with investors.
- it can even help you get elected!

The list goes on.

But there are some unwritten rules.

Don’t make up stuff.
Don’t call out people then commit the same offence.
Don’t be an idiot!!
Be honest.
Be open.
Be authentic
Add value
Entertain.
Inform

In a nutshell, try and be of use in some way to the audience you want to appeal to!

Do that consistently and boy it can be powerful and can elevate you to levels you weren’t ever expecting!

Now if you’re a leader of a country…

The last thing you want to do is continually spout virtue signalling, overly polished “mis-truths” and ok, I’ll say it…

Lies.

Because eventually, it’ll be noticed.

Highlighted.

And you’re gonna get called out.

If you demand standards of your competitors that you continually fall below…

Yup…

You’re going to get called out!

We all make mistakes.

One or two things here and there, that’s normal.

You’re human.

But monumental, impactful mistakes over and over?

Not forgivable!

What would a gentleman do?

Fall on his sword.

Hold his hands up and take it like a man!

What would a weak man with no spine, morals, vision or true leadership do?

Continue to lie.

Until he’s forced out.

That’s not leadership folks.

It’s an absolute disgrace.

Britain deserves better.

If your plan is “wait for Rachel Reeves to fix my life”, you haven’t got a plan, you’ve got a fantasy.


In the last decade we’ve added hundreds of thousands of people into the public sector – civil servants, NHS, quangos, the lot.

More headcount.

And yet:

Everything feels worse than ever.

And now we’ve got a leftist government that seems to actively dislike wealth creators.

Madness!

So what happens?

The real engine of the country quietly leaves.

Not just the billionaires and non-doms.

I am also talking about the 25–35 year olds who should be the next generation of founders, leaders and senior operators.

The ones who would start businesses, build teams, pay tax, create opportunity.

They look at the numbers and think:

“I can’t buy a house.”
“I’m on six figures and still stuck.”
“Why am I doing this here?”

So they leave.

Who can blame them?

If I was in my twenties now, I’d probably be gone too.

And this is criminal, to me, because this is an amazing country.

Just currently run by people who have never had to sign a personal guarantee or make payroll.

There is a quote that sums up to me, where we are…


Hard times create strong men.
Strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men.
Weak men create bad times.


We are deep in the “weak men, bad times” chapter.

You can either sit and rage about it…

Or you can take responsibility for the bit you control.

You cannot control:

• Tax policy
• Civil service bloat
• Who is in Number Ten

You can control:

• Your skills
• Your offers
• Who you sell to
• Where you live
• Your mindset and attitude
• How visible you are to the people who can actually pay you

That might mean:

• Moving country
• Changing industry
• Starting something new
• Killing something that is dying
• Finally getting serious about telling your story and building your name so you are not at the mercy of one employer or one government

Less state reliance.
More self reliance.

You won’t fix Westminster.
You can fix your pipeline, your positioning and your options.

That part is on you.

They tell themselves they will spend more time with family
Get in shape
Fix their money
Sort their business...
 
"Once things calm down".

Now it is nearly the end of the year and the script has changed to "I will sort it in January."

January has been carrying that lie for years.

A few years ago I was diagnosed with lymphoma.
 
It is fully managed. I am monitored.
 
I am not going anywhere any time soon.

But it changed how I see time.

It stopped being "I have decades to get round to that" and became...

"What am I actually doing with the time I have".

I realised I had been sleepwalking through parts of my life.
 
Keeping things that were comfortable, not right.
 
Delaying decisions that would have made me happier years ago.

You do not need a diagnosis to see it.

You see it when you keep a client you have outgrown
Tolerate a job that drains you
Tell yourself you will "do LinkedIn properly next year"

While another year disappears.

Meanwhile, your thirties, forties, fifties are not on pause.

This is why I care so much about founders sharing their real stories now.

Not when the government gets its act together.
Not when the economy "stabilises".
Not when you finally feel ready.

The best time to build a personal brand was ten years ago.
 
The second best time is right now!

One honest post.
One clear offer.
One decision to show up as yourself.

That is how it starts.

The REAL LinkedIn, for me, is about one thing…

Proving to my grown up kids that you do not tap out in your fifties.

I am 55.

My kids are 26 and 23.

I am step dad to two more, 16 and 13.

They do not need me to cut up their food or pay for every single thing.

What they need is to see what trying looks like.

What resilience is.

All I have ever asked of them is simple.

Be the best you can be with what you have.

Do not coast.

Do not give up on yourself.

So I have to live that as well.

That is what this business is for me.

It is not just a way to pay bills.

It is me rebuilding, learning new skills, starting again at 55, getting things wrong in public and then coming back again.

I have not always got it right as a dad.

No parent has.

But it has never been for lack of effort.

On the whole, I’ve done ok.

That, to me, is what separates people I respect from people I do not.

The ones I respect:
	
1.	Keep turning up when it would be easier to disappear
2.	Admit when they get it wrong
3.	Stay curious instead of pretending they know it all

Because the minute you decide you know everything, you start sliding backwards.

The market moves.

Tech jumps forward.

Your kids grow into adults with opinions of their own.

The only thing that really lasts is who you are when all of that shifts.

Your character.
Your values.
Your track record of getting back up.

That is why I write on LinkedIn.

That is why I work with founders, consultants and recruiters who are also still hitting life hard in their forties and fifties.

We are not here to look perfect.

We are here to keep trying, keep learning and set an example to the people watching us, even if they are old enough to buy their own house now.
