The first 100 days in office:

• Began significant refactoring of bug-inducing legacy code

Management noticed the real-world impact these changes brought about. I had the greenlight to focus on higher-level issues:

• Turned angry customers into devoted fans by completely remodeling the UX
• Reworked the entire software toolchain, including adding unit tests and a CI pipeline
• Improved performance exponentially-- redesigned components for scalability
• Set the foundation for mobile apps by reworking legacy web controllers into a REST API
• Built out systems for team scalability: technical processes, documentation, etc.

Had the privilege of working on hundreds of projects for private companies in the education, language, music, and health care industries.

Designed and developed with a variety of different architectures, from traditional websites to single-page applications, all depending on the clients' individual needs.

U.S. VRI

Embarked on the adventure of building a language interpretation and translation agency from the ground up with my co-founder.

Developed in-house video remote interpretation (VRI) software for use with our customers. Pivoted during COVID to sell subscription access to our software directly to other interpreters and agencies.

What we got right:
• Talked to our users relentlessly
• Used customer feedback to iterate and make our customers unbelievably happy
• Managed our development cycles mindfully to ship and test features as fast as possible

What we got wrong:
• Didn't do a large enough volume of sales outreach
• Struggled to craft the right value proposition for decision makers (though interpreters *loved* it)

This was a tremendous learning experience. It has drastically shaped the way I approach software development for startups still searching for product-market fit.

Co-Founder

I used to be a DECENT programmer.

I was self-taught, I'd never worked at a big company like Google, and had never even studied computer science in university...

Naturally, I felt there was something missing...

I didn't want to be a GOOD developer, I wanted to be GREAT.

So I read every software book I could find that I thought was "above" my pay grade.

And after countless hours of soaking up technical details, I learned something extremely important:

Most programming books don't teach the big stuff.

Instead, they teach specific skills will be irrelevant in the next 2 years.

Great for beginners, yes...

But where did the experts get their knowledge?

SOMEONE out there must have mastered the design patterns I had struggled to learn. 

SOMEONE must have known how developers build awesome new frameworks from scratch.

And maybe, just maybe, someone out there knew how to use CSS without consistently contemplating suicide. (Actually, if you've figured this one out, please enlighten me.)

No one was talking about the things I KNEW made a developer a true expert.

So... I learned the old fashioned way: I trudged through the trenches on my own for over 10 years.

Through blood, sweat, tears, and an enormous amount of swearing, I had finally figured it out.

I had finally achieved that feeling of CONTROL over the entire development process.

Along the way, I managed to…

→ Work on hundreds of awesome development projects
→ Safely refactor huge codebases that are now worth millions of dollars
→ Work as technical lead at multiple startups and early-stage companies
→ Grow my software agency to six figures, starting from scratch (and no degree)
→ Rob over 100 banks (okay that’s a lie- I still haven't broken 90)
→ Spend thousands of hours educating other developers on how to do everything above
