This was a position that I had pushed for and am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to do. While ultimately unsuccessful this time around it was a huge learning experience for myself and I hope it will be attempted again this year, and this time work out as the opportunity that it should be for all involved.

The proposal was to have, in a similar vein to the sports camps already taking place on campus, secondary level students from a variety of areas, disadvantaged students were to be subsidized by the UCD chapter of the SVP, to take part in a really extensive program covering drama, horticulture, circus skills, ultimate frisbee, quidditch, drawing classes and much more.

This was to allow UCD to showcase the breath of student experience possible at the university and also give students who are less athletic an opportunity to visit the third level institution and know that should they come here there are many places outside of the lecture hall for them to make friends.

While I was initially hired as an instructor for children's swimming lessons on the busy Saturday morning shift, over my many years with Shoreline Leisure in both their Greystones and Bray Leisure Centres I was able to fill a variety of roles depending on where I was needed.

This allowed me to put myself through Trinity while giving me skills and experience in a new company that was both large enough to have a range of roles and small enough that you were still able to be on first name terms with the manager and CEO.

I was weekend administrator and receptionist with responsibility for all cash and card transaction and for tallying at the end of the day, opening and closing the building and the customer face of the company dealing with all queries, complaints and user requests. The opportunity to learn Invotech and Sage programs while improving my customer relations and sales skills for recruiting new members was invaluable.

I was acting swim school manager during a pregnancy leave which allowed me to run the largest swim school in Wicklow, ensuring that renewals were made, payments processed and all the students were informed as to when their lessons were on was hugely challenging but being thrown in the deep end (pun intended) and the faith put in me by management was a huge opportunity I enjoyed.

Change Management: During my time here the company was going from it's start up into it's more established business phase and we recruited change management consultants to assist us. I was fortunate enough to work closely with these consultants as a representative of the company and this gave me an insight into another form of business while also ensuring that I was making a difference to Shoreline.
