If you don't know these 10 things about sales 

YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. It's not a sin not to get the deal. It's a sin to take a long time not to get the deal 

2. You can't lose something you never had 

3. If you find yourself convincing or trying to persuade - you've already lost 

4. The sales process should be all about the buyer 

5. The difference between influence and manipulate is intent 

6. There is no silver bullet, nothing will work 100% of the time

7. So many make things complicated. Keep things as simple as possible 

8. A prospect and a salesperson are 50/50. It is an equal relationship of solution and problem

9. You typically don't reap the benefits of your hard work for 90 days when it comes to prospecting 

10. Cold calling is the number one form of prospecting if you want qualified appointments

They were selling shovels

And right now there's a lot of 23-year-olds on LinkedIn selling shovels

To people who want to sell shovels

- Go through your profile views
- Find 5-10 people in your ICP

Thankfully, we gambled on the right platform for us - LinkedIn. 

But if I was starting again today, I’d use Steve’s framework to choose my channel focus for me:

Step 1: Identify Channels where your ICP hangs out

Take me for example, I have 3 core hang out spots:

- LinkedIn
- My email inbox
- In our office (3 days per week)

That means there are 3 channels you could target me on:

- LinkedIn
- Email
- Direct Mail

Step 2: Rank Them Based On Noise

- LinkedIn: I get ~5 messages per day
- Email: I get 100s of emails per week
- Mail: I get 1 letter per month

Step 3: Assess High-Signal Approaches To Target Them

Signal is a showcase of the effort you’ve put into targeting someone

Sending a generic A5 sales letter = low signal
Sending a custom-made mug = high signal

↳ Results were okay, not spectacular. 

In 2024, we built an incentives doc. 
↳ People started posting more, results were great. 

In 2025, we did 17M impressions through LinkedIn. 

Not through company content. 
Not through paid content. 

But through our team's posting on LinkedIn. 

It's easily the highest ROI investment we've ever made.

So when they hit certain follower counts, they'd win prizes. We gave away: free night away, free weekend away, vouchers, etc.

Once they did post, we shouted about the success. Viral posts? Shouted it out. Gained followers? We shouted it out.

Memes. Jokes. Gen Z humour.

People don't want to be marketed to. They want to be entertained. And they’ve mastered entertaining their niche.
