Do you know a large Midwest family? Well, if you do, then you know me.  I am the youngest of eight, raised in a small farmers'​ village in the Netherlands. If I picked an apple from the wrong tree on my way home from school, my parents would know about it before I got off my bike.

The family name is like a bank account, and my family has put their savings in it for over 50 years.  We are not rich, but the van der Kooij's are known for our hard work, and willingness to help others. So we never needed a lot of money. For my family, our reputation is the most valued asset and trust is the currency we trade in.  Every day.

Fast forward to today, a time where the subscription (SaaS) business model is impacting organizations big and small.   Why?  Because in the subscription business you MUST make a client successful!  You have to earn an honest word-of-mouth reference by exceeding a client's expectation. You have to work hard and build a reputation. I recognize this as these are the norms and values I was raised on, and I know exactly what to do.

I’m co-founder of **Quotation Factory**, where we help metalworking companies solve one of the hardest problems in high-mix environments: **making fast, reliable decisions under high variability** — starting with quoting.

Through this work, my focus has expanded beyond quoting to a broader question:

**How do we build intelligence into manufacturing systems where mix is high, volume is low, and certainty is limited by design?**

I refer to this as **High-Mix Intelligence**:

* Understanding why volume still matters even with autonomy
* Separating where mix originates from where it hurts
* Helping organizations move from expert-dependent to system-driven

This perspective now extends beyond metalworking into the wider world of **high-mix, low-volume manufacturing**.

### Why I do this

I’m energized by turning complex, variable processes into systems that are **understandable, scalable, and autonomy-ready**. Too many strong manufacturing companies are held back by decision structures that never evolved beyond spreadsheets and heroics.

Outside of work, I enjoy music, nature, good coffee, and conversations with people who love building things.

De vraag die ik de afgelopen maanden steeds krijg van ondernemers in de maakindustrie:

Mijn eerlijke antwoord?

Niet mensen die meer in portals klikken.

Mijn focus is: Quotation Factory bouwen als agentic company.

We werken aan een manufacturing operating system waarop agentic workflows kunnen draaien.

Dit is geen update.
Dit is een nieuw speelveld.

We zitten al midden in een systeemverschuiving.

Wat ik de afgelopen jaren zie — als Founder & CEO van Quotation Factory en HiggX — is geen nieuwe technologie. Het is een fundamentele herstructurering van hoe kennis werkt, hoe software wordt gebruikt, hoe bedrijven georganiseerd zijn en hoe waarde wordt gecreëerd.

Kennis wordt publiek.
Software wordt API’s voor agents.
Bedrijven worden procesgrafen.
Werk verandert.
En AI wordt de orkestratielaag van alles.

Ik noem dit de **Great Transition**.

In de komende weken ga ik de verschillende aspecten hiervan ontrafelen in een reeks livestreams.

Deze eerste sessie is het begin. Het mentale model. Het kader.

Niet om hype te voeden. Maar om richting te geven.

Als je wilt begrijpen waar business écht naartoe beweegt — en wat dat betekent voor jouw positie — sluit aan.

Op basis van hele duidelijke uitgangspunten worden bedrijven 'gedwongen' hun marketingfluf achterwege te laten en met de billen bloot daadwerkelijke resultaten te boeken. Waarom dit belangrijk is?

Dit zou bijvoorbeeld een manier kunnen zijn/worden om een partij als TNO te confronteren met de praktijk van wat zij (en de onderliggende politiek) bedenken. En het zou een manier kunnen zijn om 'samenwerking' niet alleen als marketing instrument en machtspel te gebruiken maar het vanuit Engineering principes daadwerkelijk mogelijk te maken. Dat zou voor eindklanten een hele vooruitgang betekenen.

De kosten van kennis, ervaring en uitvoering gaan razendsnel naar 0. Wat (nog) ontbreekt is het onderliggende besturingssysteem voor de maakindustrie en concurrerende energieprijzen. Disruptie van de maakindustrie duurt geen jaren meer. De vraag is waar die disruptie vandaan gaat komen. Nederland slaapt en leeft onder een steen.

Moet je eens kijken wat robots anno 2026 al kunnen. Wát een verschil met een jaar geleden. Dit was gister het Chinese nieuwjaarsfeest op TV. En natuurlijk is het ingestudeerd en voorgeprogrammeerd, maar de reikwijdte van de bewegingen, de souplesse en de consistentie (terwijl er om de robots heen van alles gebeurt) zijn ronduit indrukwekkend.
Als je naar het grotere plaatje kijkt, kun je niet anders dan onder de indruk zijn.

En een beetje angstig 😅

A big announcement for the future of our conference. After many discussions on how to grow and continue moving forward, focusing on what is best for the community: Walker Reynolds is selling his stake in ProveIt! to his current partners, Travis Campbell and Matthew Olson. 

We always knew that at some point, Walker would need to step back to fully dedicate himself to his other passions and commitments—and the timing now feels right and purposeful. The conference has matured and strengthened to the point where it can confidently stand on its own, ready for this next phase of growth.

Most engineers learn tools. Very few learn systems thinking parameters.
That's create difference between solving problem and redesigning reality.
If you want to think like a true systems engineer, train yourself to see these 9 parameters in every situation-

#1_Boundaries
            What is inside the system? What is outside ?
           *Most failures start with a wrong boundary.*
#2_Feedback_Loops
            What reinforces? What balances?
           *If you can’t see loops, you’re guessing.*
#3_Delays
           Rarely immediate effect of a cause is visible.
            *Time lag creates misdiagnosis.*
#4_Nonlinearity
           Small input != small output
          *Systems amplify quietly… then collapse suddenly.*
#5_Emergence
          The system behavior is not equal to the sum of parts.
          *Integration creates new properties.*
#6_Constraints
           Every system has a bottleneck.
           *Optimization away from the constraint is wasted effort.*
#7_Coupling
           Tightly coupled systems fail fast.
           *Loosely coupled systems degrade gracefully.*
#8_Incentives
           Human systems obey rewards, not logic.
           *Misaligned incentives destroy architectures.*

-Systems thinking is not about diagrams, its about practicing to see hidden structures. Most people see events, SE see patterns. Great ones see leverage points.

Mijn bijdrage (voor wat het waard is) aan de discussie op de TechniShow. Als de doelgroep ECHT het MKB is (wat ik me in alle eerlijkheid afvraag), hou het praktisch, eenvoudig en laagdrempelig om ongericht te krijgen.

Standaarden maakten B2B-integraties jarenlang mogelijk. Maar ze maakten ze óók rigide!

In mijn laatste livestream deed ik een demo met een UBL RFQ (SCSN-compatible):
✅ CAD + tekeningen uploaden → RFQ genereren → naar leverancier → alles 1-op-1 overgenomen.
En toen de twist:
Ik gaf exact hetzelfde XML aan ChatGPT met één vraag:
“Extract the powder coating spec.”
➡️ Het model gaf meteen nette JSON terug.
Zonder schema’s. Zonder validators. Zonder ‘committee time’.

Dus de vraag is: hebben we in het LLM-tijdperk nog dezelfde standaarden nodig… of vooral semantiek + agents?

Lees dit eens goed … we mogen ons gecertificeerd … bla noemen. Prima. Gefeliciteerd. Maar dat er certificering nodig is voor systeem integraties is wat mee betreft op zijn minst idioot te noemen. Praktijken uit de vorige eeuw … doomed.

Les 27: De Valley financieren, eigen succes ‘vies’ noemen
De Belgische premier Bart De Wever zei: “we moeten af van de mindset dat succes iets vies is.”

Dit is precies de oude Benelux-paradox: we zijn calvinistisch en katholiek tegelijk:
⚪ Calvinistisch omdat wie boven het maaiveld uitsteekt meteen verdacht is
⚪ Katholiek omdat succes best mag zolang je er direct schuldgevoel en kaarsjes bij koopt

Onze pensioenen, 210% van het BBP, sturen we naar de Valley om de droom te financieren. We outsourcen risico en importeren rendement. 

We wanen ons een kenniseconomie, maar dit is geen bescheidenheid. Dit is institutionele lafheid.

We zijn een technologische vazalstaat die zijn eigen toekomst heeft geleased aan buitenlandse VC’s, omdat we te netjes willen blijven in ons eigen volkstuintje. Daarom zijn Moonshots zoals Nadi zo belangrijk, met dank aan Jelle Prins.

Wanneer stoppen we met doen alsof risico een zonde is? Wanneer gaan we weer trots worden op Founders die durven te winnen?

Weer zo’n functie waar ik écht blij van word. Jarenlang gebruikten we het distributiedashboard van ons ERP, maar het leverde nooit echt resultaat op.

Nu zetten we pakbonnen en inkooporders simpel om naar concrete transportbehoeftes. Alles wordt automatisch per dag gesorteerd.

 Open je als chauffeur de dag in de app, dan zie je direct:
• welke ritten er gepland staan
 • waar je heen moet
 • welke pakbonnen of inkooporders erbij horen
 • of je moet ophalen of afleveren
