The Urban Ministries - helped provide free/pro bono healthcare to communities in need.

Making Magic Alliance - sat on the board and helped raise funds to send kids to summer enrichment programs. Statistics show children involved in summer enrichment programs have higher tests scores, higher acceptance rates for college, and greater overall success!

Venture Cafe - an MIT & IBM joint venture in the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) on MIT's campus in Cambridge, MA, one of the largest entrepreneurship incubators worldwide with +800 startups in the CIC office. 

In the Raleigh area, we created a program to help the men & women's Oak City Care's homeless shelter by partnering with food trucks to support the Oak City Cares mission of feeding our community members in need.

👨‍🏫 10 years ago I was a fresh-faced high school math teacher nervously looking to make a positive impact on my students. 

🎤 Now I have the privilege to share with hundreds of math educators every year how to:

✅ Reclaim their time back from the scourge of grading ⏱
✅ Supercharge student learning outcomes and improve test scores 📈

How did I get here?

I’ve loved math my whole life😍, and it has always hurt my heart to hear someone proclaim that they’re “not a math person.” 💔

When teaching, I constantly looked for ways to improve my practice and get my students loving math as much as I did. 

I found myself drawn to EdTech, and thought to myself, “There’s got to be a way that technology can revolutionize the classroom in a positive way.”

I tried tool 🔨after tool🪛. 

Some worked, some didn’t. But none stuck. Sometimes the tool was poor. Sometimes the implementation was haphazard. But always,I found myself going back to good old pencil and paper. 

💡Until I started using Mathspace…

It changed how I taught, and it changed how my students learned.

The biggest challenge with most digital math tools is that they’re all about the answer, ignoring the process or only giving it passing attention. 

Pencil and paper, with teacher or student correction fixes that, but it’s time consuming (especially if the teacher is shouldering the burden entirely) and the feedback loses its immediacy, and therefore some of its effectiveness.
