Social Firefly

Social media strategy, campaigns and training to help you click with your audience.

Our team of seven specialises in social media strategy, ads, content and training.

My role focused on web and social media development. I ran technical and content training sessions for services and the wider communications team.
 
I maintained a publishing overview of content on all web-based services, ensuring customer surveys and user feedback are considered as well as consistent application of corporate style and standards.
 
I developed and shared content such as video, images, polls, infographics along with setting up, optimising, and reporting on the effectiveness of paid social advertising.

Digital Communications

Sussex Police

I developed strategies and content for a variety of business leads across many different areas of policing, including change projects. This content is shared internally via the intranet, newsletters and email as well as externally on social media, products, digital screens, radio and press releases. 
 
To develop communications I referred to the Departmental Delivery Plan, along with insights such as research and data. From there I developed key messages, got buy in from partners and tailored content for channels, adhering to brand guidelines. I used analytics to track content effectiveness - reach and engagement, as well as monitoring the level of behavioural change created. I then used this analysis to inform future communications.   

During my time at Sussex Police I worked closely with designers to create infographics, audio, video and GIFs for a number of projects. This has included police support of Brighton Pride, as well as awareness about child sexual exploitation, fraud and domestic abuse.   

I have a keen interest in exploring new areas in digital communications. For example I led the pilot for the Sussex Police Snapchat channel. During a recent campaign we had a number of crimes reported and direct conversations with young people via Snapchat. The Met, Devon & Cornwall, Dorset and Surrey Police have requested to use the content for their campaigns.

Communications Manager

Crunch

Delivered on brand campaigns which adhered to company strategy, ethos and budget through social profiles (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+). These campaigns varied between promoting one facet of the company or multiple; likewise they involved working with a number of different teams such as Tech, Design, Editorial and Customer Service and were aimed at clients at various different stages of their journey with the company. 

I tested and used social media tools to monitor, identify and engage with mentions and brand interaction. Moreover, I worked closely with editorial to promote their content, as well as writing social articles for publications, blogs, case studies and testimonials for the Crunch and Freelance Advisor websites. 

I co-ran brand ambassador, affiliate and super fan schemes, working closely with the Sales Manager to promote them.

Community Manager

Alzheimer's Society

Managed all media and communications for the Society for the South East and Central West regions of the UK. This included writing and checking press releases, liaising with local and national press, writing content for the website and managing local Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. 

I responded to reactive media enquiries in a timely and effective way, as well as planning for proactive media pushes. I managed volunteers who aided me with PR in my regions, as well as managing media volunteers (case studies) who spoke on our behalf, giving their personal experiences to the press. 

I also dealt with reputational risk issues, ensuring we reacted appropriately and with the best interests of the Society in mind.

Media & Communications Officer (6 month contract)

Allsorts Youth Project

I managed communications for Allsorts such as Facebook pages, profiles and groups, along with a Twitter profile and a YouTube channel. On these platforms I ran campaigns and developed online conversations.  

I worked closely with the Youth Engagement Worker to deliver campaigns which were service user led; that communicated a message, raised the profile of the project and created a sense of community. I used online tools such as Tweetdeck, Hootsuite and Facebook’s Activity Log to schedule content and Google Analytics, TweetReach and Facebook Insights to analyse how people responded to that content. This helped me determine how successful a campaign, or specific post was in order to develop and improve communication strategies. I used Storify to collect data about a campaign in order to feed back to funders how effective campaigns had been.  

I also managed the website, using WordPress to update content and worked with developers to improve user experience.

Moreover, I created communications policies including key messaging, key audiences, brand guidelines, crisis management and social media safe practice with youth audiences.

Virtusales Publishing Solutions

During my time at Virtusales I liaised regularly with high profile clients (large publishing companies such as Penguin, Random House and Bloomsbury) who used the software I was testing and helping to develop. I built and maintained relationships; liaising with them regularly to discuss their requirements. 

I wrote copy for the website, as well as creating webinars in order to engage clients. I also answered queries and development requests. 

Furthermore, I ran projects such as creating a PDF Help Guide for one of the systems, along with developing online help copy.

In this role I attended senior manager and managers’ meetings, led team meetings and liaised with technical teams to amend procedures.  I organised and developed projects which improved the efficiency of my team.  Additionally I conducted telephone and face to face interviews for new employees, one-to-one’s and back to work interviews.
