Most good decisions that moved my life forward felt uncomfortable at the time.

Like the kinda uncomfortable we all get when we gotta dance on stage…

*gulp*

✅ Quitting a job I loved.
✅ Starting in an industry I knew nothing about.
✅ Deciding to join Flint last year.

None of it felt safe.

They were all risks.

(Now my beautiful kids are doing the same, dancing their way through the real world!)

Because things that scare you often change you.

They help you grow in confidence. 

And avoiding them has a bigger cost.

I started broking in 2015, and I had no idea what I was doing.

So I did the only sensible thing I knew, and became a student.

I found the best brokers in the biz, and watched and studied how the existed.

I really didn’t have any experience.

But I had a healthy fear of being exposed,

And a lot of time. 

Clients can tell when you know things.

And more importantly they can tell when you don’t

You don’t need years. You need obsession.

That’s just how you get better.

People talk a lot about habits, strategy, and mindset.

My biggest and best performance hack?

Going home.

Dancing like crazy with my girls.

Spinning around our living room for hours.

Getting absolutely humbled by tiny humans with better rhythm than me.

Being actually present.

When home is good, work gets easier.

Decisions are clearer.

Pressure doesn’t stick the same way.

Turns out joy is a pretty solid productivity tool.

Big goals are easier to chase when you’ve got something real to come home to.

That’s where my energy comes from, and it's truly incredible. 🤪

Chasing outcomes is easy.

Revenue. Growth. Milestones.

All the things you can put in a slide deck, and feel good about for maybe 5 minutes. 😭

But they’re all just results.

What really matter though, is how everyone grows while you’re achieving those.

Learning together, figuring out problems, making huge mistakes, fixing them, and pretending we knew the answers all along, are the real results.

The numbers will move around.

They always do.

But watching a group of people get better together...

More confident, more capable, more in sync…

That feeling you get from seeing that, never changes.

And that’s what makes building a team worth it.

I used to think being taken seriously meant acting serious.

Polished, composed, and “all under control.”

But that isn’t me.

(My current idol is Bandit from Bluey...)

Turns out Mr. Serious Face version of me isn't very good.

So i stopped trying.

I joke more, and laugh at myself, and play at work regularly.

And weirdly…everything becomes simpler.

I learn faster now.

Bad days don’t stick as long, if at all.

And work feels lighter, even when it’s hard.

Highly recommend trying 'playing' more, and being 'Mr Serious' less.

A few weeks ago, I had dinner with one of the most successful mortgage brokers in the country.

We ended up talking about what actually separates the best from everyone else.

It wasn’t strategy.

It was speed.

In his business, when a lead comes in and no-one calls within five minutes, it’s an issue.

Harsh? Maybe

But wrong? Not really.

If someone reaches out, that’s when they want to talk.

Just like when my girls ask me to play, they want me to play now. Not in 5 minutes or an hour.

When I was starting out, I answered the phone wherever I was.

24/7 was the motto

(No one actually calls at 2am)

You can’t do that forever, and you shouldn't.

But early on, it makes the difference.

Deals don’t just fall over because of strategy. They fall over because someone was slow.

Simple lesson.

Trying to do everything yourself is the fastest way to stay small.

If you're doing all of the below ⬇️

✅ Credit. 
✅ Processing. 
✅ Post-settlement. 
✅ Customer management.

You are the wearer of all hats...and likely the master of none.

What all this does is pull you away from where you create real value.

Your value isn't in spreadsheets & servicing calcs...

(and boy...do i love a pretty spreadsheet!)

Brokers value is in lead generation, speaking directly to clients & partners, and building momentum.

Everything else drains time away from this.

That’s what 'thinking bigger' actually looks like.

If you want to grow fast, stop trying to do everything yourself.

Build a team that frees you to focus on what you do best.

If people can’t see you online, you don’t exist at all.

Most trust is built online now.

So early on, I decided I had to be myself.

Not louder.
Not flashier.

Just the daggy dad that is me.

Most people copy each other.

That’s why they blend in.

But the only thing no-one can copy, is how you think.

That’s the brand.

How do you communicate with 120 people across 4 countries?

You don’t overthink it.

I sat in my office.
Hit record.
Talked.

Had a thumbnail made, on the spot.
And sent it.
All in 30 minutes.

No script.
No production.
No drama.

Just a simple and silly message to kick off the year and get everyone aligned.

Sometimes the best way to lead a big team…is to keep things small, human, low-stakes, and fun.

Earlier in my career, I said yes to way too much.

Not because it was smart, but because it felt productive.

I had meetings everyday and everywhere, and lots of chaotic energy, (which I now save for when I’m at home with my girls.)

It took me a while to realise that I was just tired…not effective.

Learning to say no wasn’t about being difficult.

It was learning about being honest with myself and what actually mattered.

Once I started protecting my time, the work just got better.

Not instantly, but enough to notice.

Turns out ‘no’ isn’t rude.

It’s just clear.

And that clarity makes life a lot easier.

Every Tuesday at the office…Toastie Tuesday happens.

No agenda, no strategy.

Just fancy cheeses, breads, deli meats, fresh tomatoes, and actually sitting still for five minutes.

Sure it’s loud, messy, and someone always burns theirs. 
(Someone being me. 😬)

But it’s there, where half the real team bonding lives.

No slides, and no meetings.

Just a small weekly ritual we always show up for.

Turns out teams aren’t built in boardrooms.

They’re built over melted cheese.

One thing I didn’t expect after a year of building businesses

Almost everyone starts with making money as the goal

That’s important, it’s how businesses stay alive, thrive and grow.  

But…

That’s not where the fun lives.

The stories you collect, the people you meet and the experiences you live while building…

Living life knowing i’m having a real crack at the biggest boldest version of myself…and won’t be dying wondering or living ‘what ifs’

That’s what all the old wise men who claim the journey is better than the destination mean…

Organic content gets you seen.

People start to recognise you, hear your voice, and trust you.

That’s the real challenge.

Once that’s working, paid ads just speed things up.

I’ve always looked at it pretty simply - ads can’t replace your brand.

But they do turn the volume up.

(Like me in the car when Taylor Swift starts playing.)

The mistake is running them up too early.

Or chasing the noise, instead of the right people.

When your message is clear, and your process actually works, ads feel like acceleration instead of chaos.

Brand first. 

Fuel later.

The RBA just delivered a hammer blow. 

They've just INCREASED the INTEREST RATES.

They called it a "line ball" decision. It wasn't.

Every single Board member voted to increase rates. 

It was unanimous. 

And if you looked at the Aussie Dollar the second the announcement dropped, the market knew it too. It went straight up.

Here is the damage report: 
Households: A $500k mortgage just got ~$80/month more expensive. 
Sydney & Melbourne: Already slowing down on the idea of this hike. Expect the brakes to be tapped harder. 
The Affordable Markets: Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, and Hobart are defying the trend.

The Economic Reality: 
When rates rise, borrowing capacity falls. People don't stop buying homes; they just buy cheaper homes. Money flows away from the expensive luxury markets (Sydney/Melbourne) and into the affordable segments (Perth/Adelaide).

The RBA has made their move. 

The era of "cheap money" is definitely not coming back anytime soon.

Are you positioning for growth or just holding on?

Early on, I spent too much time getting ready for 'perfect' to knock on my door.

Biggest rookie move…

Waiting for the perfect investment property? That one costs a fortune.

Some people wait years…and pay a lot more

But you soon realise there’s a great deal out there every single day.

And that 99% of the performance comes from actually executing on one of them. 

So what did I do?
✅ I started showing up instead.
✅ Just bought tha thing, decided on it and moved forward.  

You get better by doing.

Not by thinking, or planning, or staring at the ceiling at 2am endlessly.

The ones who win, aren’t the most polished, or put together.

They act like Nike, they just do it 😄

This is why interest rates are still under pressure.

The Jan 28 CPI came in hotter than the RBA would like, but the details matter.

Goods inflation has cooled.

You can see it rolling over clearly on this chart.

Services inflation hasn’t.

And that’s the problem.

Services = rent, insurance, healthcare, wages.

The stuff that doesn’t come down quickly.

So even though headline CPI looks better than last year, the RBA can’t relax yet.

As long as services inflation stays elevated, rates stay higher for longer.

The CPI print didn’t open the door to cuts.

If anything, it keeps the door firmly shut.

That’s the takeaway.

People think success is about skill or strategy.

I used to think that too.

Then I had four $50m months in a row…after not hitting one in ten years.

Nothing magical changed.

I just started hanging around people who made my standards feel a bit uncomfortable.

Christian Stevens and I push each other daily.

Healthy competition, and zero hand-holding.

He’s been the #1 broker in Australia for years.

I respect it.

(Also…I want it.)

Being that close to excellence messes with you in a good way.

You don’t tolerate average anymore.

Turns out our environment does a lot more work than we give it credit for.

So choose yours wisely.

My grams passed, terrified of not having enough money.

And it’s likely the story for a lot of people too.

She was one of my favourite people.

I visited her every year for a decade straight until she left us in 2019.

The tail end of her life was full of grief, pain and a lot of fear over not having enough money.

I could never fully understand it because between my parents, me, her other kids - money was never limited.

Her bills were always covered and anything she wanted, she had.

But the fear - nay terror - always seemed to persist.

I remember one year I surprised her with a new microwave and she flipped out asking how I could spend so much (she had no idea how much it even was)?

And that she didn’t need / deserve one 😔 

There was no amount of positive talk that could’ve undone 7 decades of living in scarcity and treating herself unkindly.

I think a lot of the financial insecurities came from the fact that she never had her “own” money.

It was always what my grandpa earned or what we provided.

So I think she perpetually lived with the fear that it would just…stop one day.

I don’t really have any profound lessons to share here.

But I do think we should all have something of our own at some point so we know what it feels like.

Maybe then we can live free of this fear that one day it all goes away.

“Buy a property in your Super to turbocharge your wealth.”

I’ve seen 4 versions of this line in the past week, all posted confidently by buyer’s agents.

And because I’m apparently a sensitive fella, I sit there with a mix of anger and disbelief thinking… what the actual fuck are we doing here?

Not because property in Super is always bad.

But because it’s somehow become a marketing hook.

My first thought every time I see this is the same.

“Where do you get the balls to comment on something this complex, this heavily regulated, and this far outside your expertise?”

Super is tax law, contribution caps and a million other things that make the whole thing a no-go for 90% of the population.

But you’re just like “hey, got $X in Super? Ever thought about buying a property with it?”

What.

This is why licensed financial planners exist.

A buyer’s agent isn’t qualified to tell someone whether they should hold property in Super, just like a financial planner shouldn’t be telling you which suburb to buy in.

The confidence is what gets me every time.

The way “turbocharge your wealth” gets thrown around like there’s no risk, no trade-offs, no scenario where this goes unbelievably wrong and traps someone for decades.

The worst part is someone reading that post will believe it.

They’ll think they’re being smart.

They’ll think they’re doing the “advanced” thing.

And get royally screwed in the process.

How this shit is allowed to be marketed so casually honestly blows my mind.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here.

Can someone please explain to me wtf is going on here?

Took a while, but I have my list of wishes for LI for ‘26.

My top 5.

1 - More posts from fellow buyer’s agents telling people to buy property in their Super.

It’s the LinkedIn version of being randyyy. Rawr. 

2 - More DMs asking me about bitcoin mining because I volunteer at a dog rescue.

It’s the same as asking me my thoughts on the Venezuela conflict because I like apples.

3 - More notifications telling me “someone viewed your profile”.

Nothing gets me randier than knowing there’s someone out there viewing my profile.

4 - More posts with those fantastic 2 word sentences.

Nothing screams expertise & writing chops to me than knowing someone used a prompt that said “Make this snappy and make me sound like I’m a profound thinker”.

5 - More people in my industry reminding us why everyone sucks and they’re the saviour we all need.

I left my favourite for last. I absolutely love seeing posts berating others to highlight how their course or service is the differentiator.

Nothing screams expertise & authority more than poorly articulated insecurity.

I just can’t wait 🥰

A sexy reminder from someone who buys property for a living.

Property is NOT the thing. It’s what gets you the thing.

I see people getting weirdly obsessed with stacking properties like they’re underwear.

But whether you’ve got 3 properties, 30, or 300, it genuinely means nothing if it’s not actually moving you closer to the life YOU want.

This is where it all gets weird and non-sexy.

We’ve got an industry screaming at you about their 100+ properties and billion dollar portfolios like that’s the goal, or even remotely attainable for the average person.

It’s not - on both fronts.

These folks aren’t just “good investors”.

They run behemoth businesses that give them access to money, deals, and opportunities that most normal humans will never touch.

That is the cheat code, not whatever strategy is being propped up in their ads.

So if you’re sitting there thinking, “If I just do what they do, I’ll end up like them”, - my guy 🥹 

That outcome was never built for you.

Build a portfolio that fits your life, your stress tolerance, and your actual goals, not looks impressive in an ad or a podcast.

Please friend, don’t get roped into an result that will never be yours.

I’ve spent the last few days filming content.

I might look Bollywood, but I’m apparently no Shahrukh Khan.

For my non-Indian friends - Shahrukh Khan is an actor who treats acting like it’s an extreme sport. I didn’t know faces had that many expressions.

Anyways, what I’m saying is - I wish I could just grow Alaya with writing only.

But alas getting my ugly mug out there is apparently important.

If you happen to come across a ledge of some sort, please find it in your heart to push me off it.

My man Ricky joined us the 1st week of Oct.

He’s now doing at least 2 incredible deals weekly - in just 3 months, FRIENDS.

For some reason - that I can’t fully fathom - this brother was practically sidelined and given busy work in a previous role.

When I spoke to him, what stood out wasn’t confidence or ego, it was hunger. 

A very real desire to be the absolute best at what he does.

So, we both took a leap of faith on each other.

And just 3 months later, here we are.

If you’re a founder, here’s the biggest piece of advice I can give you:

→ Give people the opportunity to thrive, instead of projecting your own biases & insecurities onto them.

→ When you do that, something genuinely powerful happens.

They become unstoppable.

I’ve got no doubt my guy is well on his way to becoming a force of nature in this industry, and the rest of us get the privilege of having front-row seats to the show.

Man, I farkn loveeeee my job.

One of my favourite things about content creation?

I don’t fear death anymore - having died so many times watching the depths of cringe I’m apparently capable of.

I hope cameras become illegal one day and we can all go back to growing our business the old-fashioned way.

Paying the mafia to bully people to give us their money.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be drinking alcohol and looking directly into the sun.

The somewhat sad reality of our existence?

There’s always going to be someone annoyed at something you’re pursuing.

The only answer I’ve ever found to this is to keep your head down and do the thing anyway.

As soon as you let other people’s opinions shape the direction of your life, you get closer to a life you never wanted in the first place.

Hey, come here so I can sexily whisper an unsexy truth.

“Earning more money doesn’t automatically make you wealthier.”

In my gig, I now get to meet plenty of doctors and lawyers who are doing a mighty shit job with their money.

Massive income but absolutely fuck all breathing room for anything else.

Still a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle but the only real difference being the kids are in nicer private schools and dinner comes with a $200 bottle of wine.

Same bullshit, but you look better doing it.

That’s why I had to rethink what “wealth” actually meant to me, because income alone clearly wasn’t it.

Wealth, as I see it, comes down to 2 unsexy questions.

→ How much of what you earn do you actually keep?

→ And how much of that kept money is working for you when you’re not?

If my active income is quietly and consistently building my asset base, I know I’m moving forward, even if it doesn’t look impressive from the outside.

And once you see wealth this way, it sneaks into other parts of your life too.

Wealth in health isn’t about being shredded for summer photos - it’s about having the energy and mobility to live your life without your body fighting you.

Wealth in relationships isn’t about collecting people, it’s about having a small circle you can call when things go sideways.

Redefining wealth like this forced me to revisit some uncomfortable areas of my life and make changes.

If nothing else, I hope this helps you pause and ask whether the version of “wealth” you’re chasing is genuinely buying you freedom, or just nicer versions of the same shitty pressure.

7 months ago, I got to say yes to my friend, Dineth.

I have a personal philosophy that I live and die by.

If there’s ever an opportunity where I get to back my friends, and I genuinely believe in their vision - I will back them.

There’s something absolutely magical about building with your friends by your side.

I’ve learned a lot filming myself over the past 7 weeks.

Here are my top 3.

1 - I’m not good at it.

2 - Good at it, I’m not.

3 - At it, I’m not good.

Last week, I had one of my hardest days in a while.

Here’s how I dealt with it this time vs. how I would’ve done so 6 months ago.

Background:

→ In classic when it rains it does so torrentially style, this day was a cocktail of shitness.

→ I had to have to hard conversations with my team, a couple of client complaints, about 500 things to do, all while my internet was being an asshole.

Nothing earth shattering, but in the moment it feels like you’re ready to punch a wall.

(I didn’t because I have dainty little hands and of course…ouchy!)

6 months ago I would’ve:

→ skipped the gym because my brain would’ve convinced me I had to keep grinding, even though I was in no mental state to do anything useful.

→ been very unkind to myself saying versions of “I’m not cut out for this” and “everything is my fault” and “why can’t you just do one leg session?”

→ I would’ve also retreated into myself, asking my partner to just “give me the day” to get my head sorted - which is another way of saying “leave me alone so I can be a dick to myself and I know you won’t let me” lol

This time, I did it differently:

→ Went to the gym. Not the best workout by any means, but doing legs out of guilt has a way of making you forget about your problems.

→ I spent the day with my partner. I was quiet, a bit wah-wah, but her energy did more for me than sooking solo ever has.

→ I also repeatedly said “tomorrow will be better” even though I, in the moment, I don’t think meant it once.

Building a business has this way of stripping you down to your core, and rebuilding you in the most painful way.

While I would love to avoid a day like that again, man am I grateful I have far more resilience to deal with it than I did a year ago.

I know I have a lot of biz owners here reading my drivel so if you’re feeling rough today, I hope you can take something out of it.

Least of which is to be nicer to yourself.

Last week, I sat down with my amigo, Terry.

A cute little reminder of why low-stakes conversations matter more than we think.

I kind of went in thinking we’d talk about Alaya Property.

But instead big T dragged me back through the last 20-odd years.

→ Life in my security guard days.

(I forgot I used to be an extremely tough little brown kid that definitely intimidated many a drunk)

→ All the many fuck-ups along the way.

→ Decisions that felt so normal and logical at the time but yet make me cringe into my soul today.

If he hadn’t kept steering the conversation, I’d still be there talking about my old security job like I was somehow interesting.

(I’m not.)

I’d honestly forgotten the value of conversations that aren’t just property.

Talking shit (at one point we talked smack about 9 year old kids) and reflecting on a life that’s written more stories than I realised.

And the big reminder Terry kept circling back to was simple, but uncomfortable in a culture that’s obsessed with “going all in”.

Most meaningful things don’t start with some absurd, grand gesture.

Most start low-stakes.

Where you try something without needing it to justify your entire existence.

Looking back, almost nothing that mattered in my career started with me going balls out.

It started small enough that fear didn’t get to run the entire show (given I’m a natural chicken, this was a big deal).

To say “I love your work”, would be like saying “I like dogs”.

Both are just silly understatements.

You know what I used to love pretending wasn’t true?

“Money doesn’t make you happier”.

Categorically false.

Now obviously, if you’re an asshole and bring terrible energy into the universe, having money isn’t going to change that.

It won’t give your life meaning, or fix your relationships, or magically turn you into a fulfilled person who wakes up at 5am smiling at the sunrise.

What it does give you is options, and options change how your entire life feels.

I love writing. It genuinely makes me happy.

It also doesn’t pay (anymore 🥹), which means it lives in the gaps between 5000 hours work, $1000 million billion dollars of bills, and the general admin of being an adult.

I write when I can, not when I want to, because wanting doesn’t cover rent sadly.

If I fast forward to a version of life where the basics are handled without constant effort, nothing about my love for writing changes. 

What changes is the pressure sitting behind it.

I can write because I want to, not because I’m squeezing it into whatever energy I have left.

That’s how I think about money.

It isn’t the goal. 

It’s the thing that removes friction so you can spend more time doing what actually makes you feel like yourself.

Money doesn’t create happiness, but it buys space. 

And once you have space, you get to choose what matters.

And THAT is what happiness really is.

If you were let go tomorrow - would you be okay or royally screwed?

Something most of us avoid thinking about.

No one - absolutely no one - cares about your future as much as you do. 

And your mum. But she also thinks “you’re her smart, handsome boy” - so you know she’s got a vested interest.

Which means letting someone else dictate our future is a bigger gamble than we tend to admit, no matter how good you are at your job or how essential you think you’ve made yourself.

The shitty reality is that you could be let go tomorrow and, after a short very tiny wobble, everything would keep moving.

Meetings would still run, emails would still be sent, and the business would carry on like nothing really happened.

That isn’t personal, it’s just how organisations work. 

BAU, if you like sexy corporate jargon.

So it’s worth asking why you’d leave your entire future in the hands of systems that are designed to keep going without you.

I’m not asking you to panic, burn bridges, punch your manager (unless they deserve it), or pretending you’re too good to have a job.

I’m asking you to build something of your own alongside whatever you’re doing now.

Brick by brick. Dollar by dollar. Skill by skill.

Not because you hate where you are, but because future-you deserves more than 1 option.

5 years from now, you won’t be grateful you trusted everything would work out. 

You’ll be grateful you took responsibility for your own freedom, even when it felt slow and wildly unsexy at the time.

Something to think about innit, hombre.

Not only am I not a natural leader.

I’m actually an unnatural leader.

What does that even mean?

No idea - leave me alone ok.

For most of my life, I had a $-figure attached to my time.

Because for most of it, I would do the work, get paid for the hours worked and off I went to my humble abode.

That’s how my corporate career trained me to think, and by the time I left, I had a specific number - $75 an hour, after tax.

What I didn’t realise at the time was how deeply that number had attached itself to my sense of worth.

So even after I left to start my biz, I kept judging myself the same way. 

If I couldn’t point to something tangible I’d produced that day, it felt like I hadn’t earned my keep.

Really sad, no? NO?!

Eventually I learned to ask better questions - especially when I had people around me.

Questions like:

→ How do I price 20 hours of 1 on 1’s with my team to get to know them better so I can help them achieve their goals?

→ Is there an hourly rate for solving problems on the fly every single day?

→ Or this - 1 hour spent on a podcast can quietly turn into 10 new clients over time. So a single hour could be worth quite a few dineros.

My value - I think - in this world isn’t in the minutes and hours.

It is in decisions, relationships, and the compounding effects of work that’s hard to quantify using sexy excel formulas.

These days, I don’t ask myself “what did I do today?” nearly as much as “what did I allow for my people?” or “What pressure did I remove for them to help them be their best selves?”

Once you see work that way, it’s impossible to unsee it.

Why won’t someone think of chunky 23 year old Adi? 😭

I’m having 1-1’s with every team member in Jan.

Here’s why it was the best ~20 hours of time spent as a founder.

(Almost each one of them went over the allotted 30mins and I loved it.)

First thing’s first, a little background:

➝ I love seeing people win - it lights me up in a way that’s hard to describe.

➝ So while my goals for Alaya Property are big, my goals to help each of my team members achieve their goals is just as, if not, bigger.

➝ I also know - selfishly - that I won’t get actually achieve even a small modicum of my vision for Alaya if I don’t have a team who’s deeply invested in the mission.

➝ And why would you be invested in a company if the person leading it doesn’t give a shit about you?

My learnings after the catch-ups:

➝ I now know everyone’s personal goals & ambitions and the responsibility is on me to help them get there.

➝ Each one gets to hear from me directly about what my vision is for Alaya and what my behavioral & performance expectations are.

If you’re building a company with a team, take them on every step of the journey with you.

You win, if they win.
