A bit about me: I am a communication designer turned visual thinking expert. 

As much as I love everything visual, pretty design images or even illustrations aren't the most important. 

The prettiest design doesn't help if your messaging – or your product – is missing the mark.

But it is almost impossible to see how to connect the dots for your business especially if you have many ideas! 

That's where I come in with my pencil. 

I use strategic sketching and a powerful story-driven framework. 

• In a Business Storyboarding session, I ask you questions and sketch while we talk. You'll SEE your client's problems and feelings. A client of mine said: "It is as if you could walk around in their life!"

Happy Folk was a creative design and communication agency which specialized in multidisciplinary support for the marketing objectives of B2B companies. As a founder and managing partner I was not only responsible for establishing and steering the company, but also for leading all major design, branding and visual communication projects for our clients.

My function within the EAU was to establish and execute visual communication concepts to support the strategy of the association and its European operations. In cooperation with the Communications and IT departments I developed strategies to bring harmony to the diverse channels utilised by the organisation. 

My projects included the development of a new web-portal and the standardisation of their disparate online resources. I designed cross-platform assets such as print and conference support materials, maintained the evolution of the EAU brand and produced logistical information design for the annual congress. I also produced promotional and educational video content.

Within the MSD - Organon Global eBusiness Department I worked closely with the brand and marketing strategy managers in order to design and develop interactive web-based promotional and educational material for both doctors and patients around the world.

Activities involved project planning with the large IT department, interaction design and the coordination of both an internal graphics team and various outside agencies. The scope was wide, and encompassed the production of interactive education modules, product websites, clinical trials websites, medical forums and e-details, as well as multilingual consumer programmes and audio visual productions.

As Art Director I was responsible for the development of visual communication and branding strategies, leading and coordinating the design team, project planning and client liaison.
So-Studios specialized in cross platform design so I made use of my in-depth understanding of both conceptual design and the technologies behind the process.
Projects varied, from producing database-driven websites, 3D interactive animations, CD-ROMs, sales tools and various printed materials.

At Dipro I led conceptual discussions between clients and production staff and was also responsible for coordinating a team of graphic designers and freelancers. I led meetings between the design team and the technical development staff.

With D:on Media, I worked with streaming video technology. The highlights of this were planning and directing the live web broadcast of a four-day music festival, the Valkhof Affaire from Nijmegen, and onsite studio reportage from the Rotterdam Film Festival.

I also looked after interns and provided them with practical training assignments.

I studied Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art and Design and attained a BA Hons Degree (University level) in 1985. 
I was always interested in using reproductive techniques to produce art and so during the course I focused on printmaking, silkscreen and lithography - as well as photography and video production. In 1985 the computer was just starting to emerge as a creative tool. I began using an Amiga 1000 to experiment with animation.

My professional career began in London during the early 90s. I was an early adopter of computer-aided design and audio production and I freelanced for some of the top bureaus and marketing agencies such as Woolf Olins, Saatchi & Saatchi and Conran Design. During this period I also worked as an animator with some of the game-changing independent television production facilities such as RTG, that were taking advantage of the new and emerging technologies.

After two years working in Taipei, Taiwan, I relocated to The Netherlands in 2000 and worked as an Art Director for various design studios serving clients as diverse as Royal Haskoning, ING Bank, Océ and ANWB and subsequently focused within the medical sector, both commercial and not-for-profit, for a number of years. Following that, together with my team at Happy Folk, I developed the visual branding for the city of The Hague over a period of three years, which was a lot of fun!

I’m a creative with many years of experience and I’m still enjoying the discoveries that my career brings to me. 
As well as that I have been producing music since the day I was born.
