As much as I love everything visual, pretty design images or even illustrations aren't the most important.

That's where I come in with my pencil. 

I use strategic sketching and a powerful story-driven framework.

Aonach

My memory of founding Aonach is that myself, my brother John, and our friend Joe Smyth had all just completed a stint of working for other people. And we all felt it was time to be our own bosses again.

We knew we worked well together coz John & Joe had worked at an online hotel booking company together and I'd been brought in to work on a couple of projects that they were working on in there. 

I ended up leaving Aonach shortly after we founded it because I wanted more freedom to be able to take on acting roles - but I remained Aonach's design partner for years, and John and Joe went on to grow Aonach into an impressive online strategy business, and then pivoted into Magento specialisation.

So I ended up getting loads of experience in designing larger websites in the travel and eCommerce space - invaluable when it comes to helping people craft landing pages as part of what myself and Marci offer now.

If you read more than one of the descriptions I've written under my experience, you're bound to notice a pattern of me working with my brother a lot. And this is no exception.

We joined the company together, and spent a couple of years working with Jim Breen in Tralee. I joined the company as technical director and John as operations director. Jim had assembled a great creative team, which we continued to build, and we came up with some pretty cool eLearning products. 

My PulseLearning experience has come in very handy again lately as myself and Marci explore putting together our first courses and group programmes.

"Shots fired!" 

We'd be working away on a project, coders tapping away, me probably designing something in Photoshop, John managing clients, and Tom solving some server issue or other... when someone would quietly reach under their desk, pull out a Nerf gun and shoot someone on the other side of the desk with a yellow foam bullet. 

A massive battle would ensure.

This probably isn't what you came here to read about, but just one of the many things I loved about working for Zenith was the Nerf gun battles.

Zenith Solutions was a company set up by Tom Raftery and my brother John, and after studying design in Dun Laoighaire College of Art and Design I came back to Cork to work for them. 

I started out designing websites - and for the nerds, this was back when Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer were battling it out, and everything was laid out in HTML tables. 

I then joined the management team and managed the delivery of web application projects, leading a small team of developers.

Couldn't even begin to tell you the experience I racked up working for Zenith, I look back now and think how amazing it was to be creating websites just a handful of years after Ireland even got the internet, and before social media was even a thing!

You’re making it too difficult for people to book your services.

Yeah, I know it’s tough to hear – you feel like you’re doing all the right things:

✅ Posting
✅ Commenting
✅ Being authentic
✅ Growing your network
✅ Blocking the hustle-bros
❌😭 But you’re not seeing results.

I’m not saying it’s easy to get clients from LinkedIn™.

But why oh why oh why are you making it ten times harder than it needs to be?

People want to work with you, but if they can’t quickly understand what you do or how it helps them, they move on. If they can’t find where to go next, they move on. If they aren’t persuaded to take action, they move on.

So don’t burn out posting endlessly. And don’t give up on LinkedIn just yet.

Frank Prendergast

What better way to kick off 2026 than an opportunity for a wonderfully sprawling chat with Mark Schaefer about business, marketing, AI, and life in general. 

That might sound like I’m introducing a podcast episode, but no, we didn’t record our conversation. This was a rare opportunity to grab lunch in person, in real life. No microphones, no cameras, no screens, no keyboards.

Just the kind of chat I enjoy too, full of stories, tangents, weird rabbit holes, and nothing off limits... here's a tiny taste of what we got into:

🕰️ The time, and mental capacity, that podcasting takes up even when you keep the format relatively casual. 

🤖 AI’s advancements and whether we’ll see small incremental gains in capability or an entirely new innovation in 2026.

🧠 Consciousness and whether it could be a fundamental constant, like gravity, and what that might mean for AI.

🕹️ Whether the possibility that we live in a simulation is compatible with the existence of God.

📢 The fact that marketing often seems to be considered a dirty word in Ireland (that one was my own observation - but led to some great marketing stories from Mark).

Happy New Year everyone! How are you kicking off your year?

AI Training for Teams | How much value is your team actually getting from ChatGPT?

Unfinished creative work has a way of coming back to haunt you.

You think you’ve made peace with it.
You tell yourself “that was another life”.
You move on. 

And then 26 years later the work pops back up, floating in front of you, wearing a sheet with eyeholes in it, jangling chains, and berating you for never finishing it. 

At least that’s what happened to me with some songs I wrote decades ago. 

Recorded badly. Never properly produced. Eventually filed away under “nice idea, shame I didn’t have the skills.” 

I’d forgotten I even had recordings of the songs until I stumbled across them on an old drive. 

And once uncovered, they wouldn’t leave me alone.

The melodies kept resurfacing. Snatches of lyrics popped into my head at inconvenient moments. Along with an old, familiar frustration: I still don’t have the skills to turn them into finished tracks.

But I do have something I didn’t have 26 years ago. 

I have AI.

I have Suno, which can take a recording and retain the melody and lyrics but apply a finished-sounding style. I could finally hear my songs the way they existed in my imagination, and have a sense of creative closure. 

Yes, I said creative. 

There’s a lot of pushback to using the word “creative” in relation to any AI endeavour. 

It seems like some people believe creativity only “counts” if you apply human skills and tools that predate AI. That to create music you have to personally master every instrument, every tool, every technical step along the way.

I don’t buy that.

I wrote the lyrics. I composed the melodies. I shaped the sound through intent, iteration, taste, and judgement. AI removed a technical barrier that had stopped me finishing the work.

That feels like creativity to me.

And now my songs exist.

They’re not perfect.
They’re not industry-ready.
And you might hate them.

But they exist in a way that does them much more justice than my own abilities were able to realise.

And now my five songs are on Spotify.

I’ve written the full story of how this all came together. The messy bits. The doubts. The ethical grey areas. The trade-offs.

Will you give ChatGPT your medical records?

Ever since the launch of GPT-5, Sam Altman has been excited about how people use ChatGPT for health support. Now he’s making it official. 

OpenAI is launching ChatGPT Health, where you can provide your medical records and link your health and fitness apps to get better quality health support from ChatGPT. 

Health has been developed with the input of medical professionals, to improve the quality of responses and make sure there are adequate safety constraints. 

OpenAI is very clear it’s designed to support, not replace, professional medical care. 

Their terms of service still say you can’t use ChatGPT for medical advice without the appropriate involvement of a licensed professional.

Which is good, because tools like ChatGPT still get things wrong, they hallucinate, they’re sycophantic, and can be biased - and when you’re dealing with your health, the risks of all those limitations are amplified. 

So as long as you know that, and check everything with a medical professional, AI can provide useful support.

But how realistic is that - how many users will use the service as intended, and how many truly understand the unreliable nature of AI output?

Especially when you consider the cost of a healthcare professional, will people pay to confirm what ChatGPT has told them?

There’s another issue too. 

Do you trust OpenAI with your medical records?

OpenAI talks a lot about the data privacy and security features in ChatGPT Health, but those features are essentially designed to encrypt the data and keep it safe on their servers. 

You still have to ask yourself whether you’re happy for your medical info to be stored by OpenAI. 

Especially since ChatGPT Health isn’t regulated in the same way your doctor or hospital is, and doesn’t have to comply with the same healthcare-specific rules around medical records.

Right now, a privacy failure would be catastrophic for them and so I 100% believe they will be super careful. But when it comes to highly sensitive personal information you need to be thinking long term. 

OpenAI is a relatively new company. They’re losing massive amounts of money and require constant investment to remain operational. 

Imagine for a moment the AI bubble does burst, investment dries up, OpenAI can’t survive, and the company is sold. If Microsoft bought them and now owns your medical history, how would you feel? What if it’s Google? And… what if it’s Meta, and Mark Zuckerberg?

Look, I get it, people are already using ChatGPT for health support. So it makes perfect sense for OpenAI to try to improve the experience for their users. 

But now is a really good time for the users to assess who they trust to store sensitive medical history information about them.

And if you do use ChatGPT Health, don’t take anything at face value. Ask for sources, fact check, and consult a professional. 

P.S. We in the EU don’t have to worry about any of this right now, it’s not rolling out to us yet.
