A bit about me: I am a communication designer turned visual thinking expert. 

As much as I love everything visual, pretty design images or even illustrations aren't the most important. 

The prettiest design doesn't help if your messaging – or your product – is missing the mark.

But it is almost impossible to see how to connect the dots for your business especially if you have many ideas! 

That's where I come in with my pencil. 

I use strategic sketching and a powerful story-driven framework.

Aonach

My memory of founding Aonach is that myself, my brother John, and our friend Joe Smyth had all just completed a stint of working for other people. And we all felt it was time to be our own bosses again.

We knew we worked well together coz John & Joe had worked at an online hotel booking company together and I'd been brought in to work on a couple of projects that they were working on in there. 

I ended up leaving Aonach shortly after we founded it because I wanted more freedom to be able to take on acting roles - but I remained Aonach's design partner for years, and John and Joe went on to grow Aonach into an impressive online strategy business, and then pivoted into Magento specialisation.

So I ended up getting loads of experience in designing larger websites in the travel and eCommerce space - invaluable when it comes to helping people craft landing pages as part of what myself and Marci offer now.

If you read more than one of the descriptions I've written under my experience, you're bound to notice a pattern of me working with my brother a lot. And this is no exception.

We joined the company together, and spent a couple of years working with Jim Breen in Tralee. I joined the company as technical director and John as operations director. Jim had assembled a great creative team, which we continued to build, and we came up with some pretty cool eLearning products. 

My PulseLearning experience has come in very handy again lately as myself and Marci explore putting together our first courses and group programmes.

"Shots fired!" 

We'd be working away on a project, coders tapping away, me probably designing something in Photoshop, John managing clients, and Tom solving some server issue or other... when someone would quietly reach under their desk, pull out a Nerf gun and shoot someone on the other side of the desk with a yellow foam bullet. 

A massive battle would ensure.

This probably isn't what you came here to read about, but just one of the many things I loved about working for Zenith was the Nerf gun battles.

Zenith Solutions was a company set up by Tom Raftery and my brother John, and after studying design in Dun Laoighaire College of Art and Design I came back to Cork to work for them. 

I started out designing websites - and for the nerds, this was back when Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer were battling it out, and everything was laid out in HTML tables. 

I then joined the management team and managed the delivery of web application projects, leading a small team of developers.

Couldn't even begin to tell you the experience I racked up working for Zenith, I look back now and think how amazing it was to be creating websites just a handful of years after Ireland even got the internet, and before social media was even a thing!

You’re making it too difficult for people to book your services.

Yeah, I know it’s tough to hear – you feel like you’re doing all the right things:

✅ Posting
✅ Commenting
✅ Being authentic
✅ Growing your network
✅ Blocking the hustle-bros
❌😭 But you’re not seeing results.

I’m not saying it’s easy to get clients from LinkedIn™.

But why oh why oh why are you making it ten times harder than it needs to be?

People want to work with you, but if they can’t quickly understand what you do or how it helps them, they move on. If they can’t find where to go next, they move on. If they aren’t persuaded to take action, they move on. 

You need to give people the clarity they need to take action.

Most of my work has just been obliterated. 

As a ChatGPT user 80% of my work day was spent prompting it to remove the em dashes.  

What am I going to do now?

Last week, Sam Altman announced:

“If you tell ChatGPT not to use em-dashes in your custom instructions, it finally does what it's supposed to do!”

Since then, I haven’t had to deal with a single em dash. 

I don’t know what to do with all this free time. 

So if you need AI training to move your team from ad-hoc prompting to building useful tools for your biz, I now have some availability.

Just realised my politeness to ChatGPT might not be enough to save me...

I'm seeing more and more posts like this. LinkedIn made changes to their algorithms that mean LLMs are now involved in the process of deciding how much reach your posts get. Could inherent bias in LLMs be responsible for, or contributing to, the suppression of women's content?

I changed my gender to "male" on LinkedIn a week ago, and my views went up 400%.

I wish I were making that up.

I also made two other changes:

-I had ChatGPT rewrite my headline and description in more male, "agentic" language, based on research articles that describe gender differences in communication.

-I pulled posts from the past few months that didn't perform well and gave them the same treatment- "Please rewrite this so it uses more typically male, "agentic" language."

But just to be sure, I went into my demographic section and told LinkedIn that I am a biological male.

This is not how LinkedIn used to be- it must be an algorithm change, I'd say in the last 6-12 months. But now, my top 3 posts from the last month were all written in the last few days.

I have a LOT to say on this, especially about how it rewards AI written content (contrary to Linkedin's claims that they're trying to cut down on it) and how it negatively impacts those of us in industries that prefer more collaborative language styles.

But for now, let's just go with... WTF, Linkedin, didn't you already get sued for sexism?

I'll keep this going, but couldn't wait to share this screenshot.

Edit: While this post is getting great engagement, it's not getting as many impressions as I've been getting the last week. I was confused, then it hit me: I used my own voice, not a fake male voice, for this post. I'm not going to change that, but if we want this to make the rounds, it'll have to be from reposting, because the algorithm isn't going to boost it.

Here's what I mean: 66 minutes later, I have 46 reactions, 20 comments, 7 reposts, and only 843 impressions. WILD.

10:24 am update: 84 minutes, 74 reactions, 31 comments, and 14 reposts, and according to my analytics, this post has only been seen by about 950 people.

Everyone can now share Projects in ChatGPT. 
They now have better sharing options than custom GPTs do...

When Meta hired Alexandr Wang, the clash was inevitable.
LeCun’s betting on world models built from real-world experience, not LLMs, and he’s leaving to pursue that vision.
