How to turn comments into conversations (without sounding salesy)

Most people think comments = engagement.

But smart creators know:
Comments = entry points to conversations.

If you’re replying with
“Thanks”
“Appreciate it”
“Glad you liked it”

You’re wasting 80% of the opportunity.

Let me break down the exact system I use to turn comments into real conversations → and eventually inbound clients.

Step 1: Understand the intent behind every comment

Not all comments are equal.
Before replying, mentally tag them:

1. Validation comments
“Great post”
“Loved this”

→ Low intent
→ Goal: Keep them warm

2. Experience comments
“This happened to me too”
“I faced the same issue”

→ Medium intent
→ Goal: Start dialogue

3. Question comments
“How did you do this?”
“Can you explain more?”

→ High intent
→ Goal: Move to DMs naturally

Step 2: Reply publicly, invite privately

Your public reply should do two things:
Add value (so others read it)
Open a door (so the commenter responds)

Example:

Instead of:
“Thanks!”

Try:
“Glad this resonated. Curious are you facing this more with content or profile positioning?”

Now you’ve:
Acknowledged them
Asked a relevant question
Created a reason to continue

Step 3: Let them earn the DM

Never jump straight into DMs.
First:
Ask a question in the comments
Wait for their response
Once they reply again, then move to DMs.

DM opener framework:
“Hey [Name], saw your reply on the post about [topic].
You mentioned [their problem] thought I’d continue it here.”

This feels natural because:
They already showed interest
The context is clear
No pitch, no pressure

Step 4: Turn conversations into insights (not offers)

Most people kill conversations by pitching too early.
Instead:
Ask 1–2 clarifying questions
Share a quick insight or micro-win
End without a CTA

Why?

Because:
People remember who helped them think not who sold to them.

Offers come later.
Trust comes first.

Step 5: Scale this with a system

Here’s the mistake I see daily:
People comment randomly.
Reply randomly.
DM randomly.

High performers:

Track commenters
1. Note repeating problems
2. Use comments as market research
