I recently came across a Paytm ad that made me pause and question myself.

A group of men and women were asked simple financial questions:
“If your answer is yes, step forward. If no, step back.”
By the end, most women stood behind. Most men were ahead.

Why?

Because they were more financially aware, more involved…
while many women (including me) often think,
“Why should I bother? My husband/ dad will handle it.”

We talk about gender equality,
yet in our own homes we silently accept that “finances are his department.”

Before deciding whether this applies to you, answer these honestly:

🤔Do you track the budget?

🤔Do you know the exact breakup of your own salary?

🤔Do you understand the difference between a Mutual Fund and a SIP?

🤔Have you ever purchased an insurance policy on your own?

🤔Have you filed your own taxes?


If even one answer is “no,” maybe it’s time to rethink.

For years, society has labeled certain responsibilities as “women’s jobs” and others as “men’s jobs.”

I don’t speak less because I’m unsure. I speak less because I observe more.

This image of the rhino painting its own horn into every landscape instantly reminded me of something I experience almost everywhere I go.

Whether it’s a meeting, a gathering, or a new group of people, I’m usually the quiet one at the beginning. And many times, people assume that means I’m shy, hesitant, or not fully present.

But my silence isn’t uncertainty.
It’s awareness.

I like to take a moment to read the room —the people, the mood, the energy, the unsaid things.
It helps me understand the environment, think clearly, and respond with intention rather than rushing in.

Once, at a social gathering, someone said,
“You’re so quiet initially… I wasn’t sure if you wanted to talk.”

By the end of the evening, after a longer conversation, they said:
“Now I see it — you first observe, reflect… and then speak.”

And that’s exactly what this image symbolizes:

For some, quietness means discomfort.

But for me, it means clarity, presence, and depth.

What feels hard today fuels you tomorrow.

Most mornings, I walk into the gym at 6 am.
And now that winter is arriving, the cold air greets me first. It feels sharp, a little uncomfortable… something my body resists initially.

But after a solid workout, when I step out and head back home, that same cold feels energising. Almost like a reward wrapped in a breeze.

It reminded me of my early days as a corporate trainer.
Delivering sessions used to create the same discomfort… the nervousness, the uncertainty, the “am I ready for this?” feeling.
Yet today, those very sessions give me a rush. They fill me with purpose, energy, and a spark that stays with me long after the session ends.

Nothing about the cold has changed.
Nothing about the sessions changed either.
What changed was my relationship with the discomfort.

That’s how growth works.
The things that feel uncomfortable at the beginning often become the things that strengthen us the most.

Keep stepping into your “morning cold.” One day, it becomes your fuel.

Ever noticed how quickly we shift from listening to defending the moment someone disagrees with us?

It happens at home.
It happens at work.
And more often than we realise.

In a recent training, I saw a participant trying hard to prove he was right. The moment a different perspective surfaced, his tone changed and his defensiveness took over.

But the truth is… most of us do this.
Our posture tightens, our tone becomes firm, and we stop being open.

Why?
Because being right feels safe.
It protects our ego and validates our competence.

But nothing breaks when we're wrong.

We simply learn something we didn’t know before.
Even SMEs don’t have all the answers.
And two people can be right in their own context.

In my sessions, I remind participants:

When the “need to be right” takes over:
• Pause and ask: “Am I adding value or just defending?”
• Listen to understand, not to respond.
• Treat viewpoints as information, not threats.
• Allow for the possibility that the other person also has a point.

Last weekend at a wedding, I found myself talking to someone who’s an introvert like me.
And it reminded me of something we often overlook in corporate life too:

Introverts aren’t antisocial.
We love conversations, connections, and meaningful interactions — whether at family events or at work.
But once the environment gets too loud, too crowded, or too “on display”… our energy starts dipping fast.
Even a simple smile for one more photo (or one more meeting) can feel like effort.

Not everyone gets energised by open office floors, back-to-back meetings, forced fun, or large townhalls.
Many introvert employees thrive when given space to think, recharge, and return with clarity.

So here’s a thought worth reflecting on:
Are we designing workplaces for all personality types — or only for the ones who speak the loudest?

A little room for quiet can unlock a lot more brilliance.
