Two fundamental things to building successful startup is: "make something people want" and "make people want something"

The best way to "make something people want" is to ask and understand what they want. Not at the message level, but at the intent level.

As the infamous Henry Ford quote says, "If I asked people what they wanted before I invented the car, they'd have said faster horses."

Yes, that is what the message would have been but the intent, if you explore, would be to reach faster. "Faster" is the keyword here. Not the "horses."

The most effective way to "make people want something" is to remind what they are missing out on, and what other people say about it.

This is why FOMO creating marketing, word of mouth and social proofs work and is most effective.

Again, talk about the intent here. What does your product enable them to achieve, and what do they miss, when they don't use your product.

And in terms of social proofs, let people share about what they think about your product and it does not always have to be about good stuff.
