Wonderbly is where I grew most, as a marketing pro and as a person. I was basically a one-woman band, managing Wonderbly’s global organic social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok and Threads. I had a lot of autonomy in this role – on day one, I was pretty much given all the logins and told ‘do what you can’. As it turned out, I could do quite a lot. In my first six months, I grew sales from organic Instagram by 130% YoY.
This got me a promotion (of sorts), as I started also managing the company’s German ad spend on Facebook and Instagram. I boosted sales from this account by 70% YoY and upped its ROAS by 300%. And I don’t even speak German. As my reputation grew at Wonderbly, I found myself getting drafted into all kinds of interesting projects – including influencer management, press shows and product launches. And I often made the case for new and creative ways to boost our brand awareness through organic social. The response from management was often ‘go on then’, which led to me building brand new projects from the ground up.

I spent most of my days creating content and managing Flamingo’s own channels and clients. My versatility and flexibility skyrocketed thanks to the variety of the work – marketing everything from handmade soaps to pergolas in the same day.

As I progressed at Flamingo, I was given a small number of junior team members to manage, which was intimidating but I just gave it a go. I tried to be the kind of manager I’d want – I’d review their work thoroughly and give useful feedback, but take a back seat in calls so they could find their voice and develop their confidence.

After being laid off during the COVID pandemic, I paid my bills by working as a retail assistant at Schuh. I sold a whole lot of shoes there, but I needed to keep my marketing muscles flexed, so I spent my evenings and weekends doing an unpaid role at SmartSticker.
In this role, I developed an influencer outreach plan alongside one of the co-founders, which had me cooking up all sorts of copy from initial contact right through to the delivery of the content. Before the strategy could really kick off, I created a database of suitable influencers for the brand to work with, from technology fanatics to networking enthusiasts. I sent a lot of cold DMs to get as many of these influencers onboard as possible. It just so happens that once I began the outreach, I was given the responsibility of managing some of the relationships– apparently I’d shown an excellent ability to build professional relationships. Alongside my newly found influencer marketing skills I was helping shape the social media identity for the business, including content and tone of voice.

There’s one word my colleagues always use to describe me: energetic. And I think that nicely sums up my approach to social media and PR – always testing, always adapting, always getting ahead of new trends and technologies. I have a track record of joining brands who have a somewhat static approach to socials, and boosting their brand awareness and profits with a lively, proactive and data-informed approach.

I live and breathe social media. My phone says I have ‘excessive screen time’, but I prefer to call it ‘always having my finger on the pulse’. This has made me a natural go-to person for colleagues working in PR campaigns, copywriting, influencer management and anything that needs a true social media native on the team. With me, they know they’ll get a panoramic view of the current social media sphere and a ‘let’s get it done’ attitude. So a lot of my experience beyond social media management has simply come from people saying, time and again: ‘we should get Emma’s input on this’.

Wonderbly was a dream role, where I worked alongside incredible people who challenged me and valued me. As Wonderbly’s Junior Social Executive, I was at the helm of all of their organic social channels; that included Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest & TikTok. As much as they helped me grow as a person and marketer, I know I made a pretty big impact on them too, winning a Crown Award in just 7 months of starting at the company - that is a HUGE deal!

In my spare time I create UFC/MMA content on my personal TikTok account where I’m growing an engaged community as well as infuriating Jon Jones’ fans; plus I'm a cohost on an MMA podcast.
