It all started with… “We need to catch up for a beer.”

A catch up was long overdue for myself and Chris Chambers - great mates, in the same city and loved hearing each other’s digital war stories. That beer was always hard to line up. Next Friday it was happening. And hey, while we’re doing it, why don’t we invite our network to see who wants to join us? 6pm at a Milton brewery. Posted online. Event organised. 70 people turn up and the Digital Social is born.

We now host three events a year with awesome guest speakers. They are always free to attend – supported by our amazing partners.

The Digital Social is for the Brisbane digital community to own. We’re not professional event organisers and don’t make any money from it. We want to connect the best minds. We want to share successful stories. We want to have some fun while we do it.

I was responsible for leading the digital strategy across the Group including technology platforms, eCommerce, multichannel retail, user experience, analytics and insights, mobile and innovation. Key activities include:

- Leading SRG's digital strategy including a Digital Transformation programme
- Drastic growth in eCommerce sales and multichannel capabilities 
- Web and eCommerce replatforming and development across payments mobile and fulfilment

Working from within marketing and IT teams, I worked closely with the senior leadership team, multiple internal teams and external partners to ensure that my team and I continued to drive the digital success of Super Retail Group.

dp dialogue is a social media agency based out of Brisbane. 

As a Social Media Strategist, Nathan analysed online word of mouth to provided research, monitoring and strategic development plans for clients. Using the Dialogix tool which he assisted in developing, he kept track of online conversations and worked with brands to engage and participate in the dialogue.

Clients included AMP, ABC Learning, Parmalat, Cold Rock Ice Creamery and Oaktree Retirement Villages.

In his time at DP Dialogue Nathan's major achievements were the creation of the Childcare Chat community, execution of Breaka Poolies social strategy and the development of social media monitoring tool, Dialogix.

This week the legends at Heaps Normal launched the The Normal Index. It's a printed mag featuring 100 tastemakers redefining what “normal” even means anymore (is a printed mag even normal anymore?) It’s sitting in pubs, clubs and cafés across Australia to spark conversation about culture, habits and identity.

This is the world of digital PR where great ideas aren't just fun brand activations - they are publicity magnets for thirsty journalists and, as a result, hungry search engines and AI models. 

And the beauty of digital PR is that it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Have you taken your Customer Service team out to lunch before peak? Or at least get them Uber Eats. It's not too late. 🍽️

Yes, you've got a lot of prep for before BFCM, but think about your customer service team, who are gearing up for the shitstorm to come. This is their time. Their moment. But it doesn't mean that it is easy. Fill the bucket up early. 

This was some great advice from Emily Elvey on the latest episode of Add To Cart. Em and I dive into what makes great customer service and customer service teams in ecom. 

We cover a bunch of areas from training the team to upsell, to systems that prioritise VIP orders to AI agents.

However, here are some additional tips Em has to optimise your CX that you can add before peak... 

🔄 Alternate high-energy channels (live chat, phones) with lower-energy tasks (social replies, clearing comments)
💪 Prep the team for “hours of power” where the whole company might need to jump in to clear tickets.
🚨 Give the team permission to ring the red alarm bell when SLAs are blowing out (many will just try to power through) 
🔋 Normalise decompression, encourage breaks, and protect downtime - helping customers can feel like being in emotional, urgent meetings all day
