Die Nutzung von Daten ist immer ein Mehrwert - für alle!

Davon bin ich überzeugt und unterstützte interessierte Unternehmen bei Ihrem Weg, Daten besser zu nutzen - dies muss nicht gleich der "große Wurf" sein, sondern kann bereits bei der Optimierung oder Ablösung bestehender Excel-Strukturen anfangen.

Der erste Schritt ist mit meinem absoluten Lieblingswerkzeug Microsoft Power BI sehr schnell gemacht, da es einsteigerfreundlich und am Anfang kostenlos bis sehr günstig ist. Es gibt keinen Grund, nicht damit zu starten!

Egal, um welche Daten es geht: die technischen Herausforderungen sind lösbar und oft einfacher als gedacht! Ich unterstütze aber natürlich auch bei Schulungen und der Erstellung von Power BI Reports und Daten-Architekturen.


In der Vergangenheit habe ich verschiedene Erfahrungen im IT-Umfeld sammeln können. Nach einem Start in der IT-Revision ging es zunächst in die Beratung im Bereich IT-Compliance und Datenschutz. 

Anschließend über eine Vertiefung im Bereich IT-Security in ein dynamisches Umfeld, zunächst als Projektleiter bei Softwareeinführungen und dann in die Datenanalyse und BI-Beratung - bisher meine interessanteste Tätigkeit, bei der ich sehr von früheren Erfahrungen profitiere und auch Führungserfahrung sammeln konnte, indem ich einen Bereich für das Thema BI von Grund auf neu aufgebaut habe.

so langsam gehen die Jahresrückblicke los...

ein guter Grund, Traditionen wiederzubeleben und gute Partner sowie alte und neue Mistreiter zu treffen.
Im BI-Kontext reden wir viel über Community und auch solche Formate gehören zur Daten-WG 🎉 

dieses Jahr waren wir nicht so konsequent wie Ulrik Harnisch und Erik Purwins in Düsseldorf. Aber zum Ende haben wir es nochmal geschafft.

gestern wurde über Zukunft und Veränderung gesprochen

es gibt viele, die Hype nicht mögen
aber ein Hype hat immer einen Grund

Leute nutzen generative KI
Ja, auch ohne alles dahinter zu verstehen 


Die Frage ist hier nicht Ja oder Nein
sondern, wie der Wandel gestaltet werden kann.

Und da sehe ich eine Chance:
Bottom-Up "personal productivity Aktivitäten" der Einzelnen mit einer ganzheitlichen Strategie zusammen zu bringen.


Das Thema ist nicht neu, wir hatten das im Daten-Bereich schon oft bei neuen Technologien, dass an der Basis schnell entschieden wurde, bevor es eine Governance gab.

Ich finde das gut, andere weniger.
Aber so kam ich zu meiner Liebe zu Power BI 💛 

Neu ist diesmal, dass KI-Tools nun noch mehr nutzen als die BI-Tools und die Zielgruppe damit sehr breit ist.



Gab es Lösungen?
Keine kompletten, aber Ansätze.

Christoph Rosenkranz hatte das Thema Weiterbildung mit dem Fokus auf nicht-Techies in den Fokus gestellt.
Werden es alle machen? Nein.
Aber bringt es etwas, wenn es einige machen?
Ja, ganz viel. Besondern bei Entscheiderinnen

Fabian Heidenstecker hatte seinen Promt-a-thon vorgestellt und wie praktisches Lernen funktioniert.
Kernbotschaft:
Generative KI nutzen, Skepsis abbauen, keine Perfektion erwarten
Es hilft trotzdem
Wir sehen uns im Daten-WG Kontext wieder 🙂 

Susanne Weßel-Therhorn und Lars Tams legten das Thema Community in den Fokus. 
Lernen und Inspiration durch Interaktion und Austausch.
Mich freut sehr, dass wir bald mehr davon sehen und das Format auch zur TDWI München kommt.
Natürlich ist Congstar auch eine Art Blaupause, wie es richtig gemacht wird, weil der Anteil der BI-Nutzer schon sehr hoch ist und gewisse Hürden einfach nicht existieren.

Power BI Update für November 2025

parallel zu den Highlights der Ignite gibt es auch ein paar bodenständige Themen in Power BI

1️⃣ 
Das neue Card Visual jetzt offiziell GA
Für mich ein Highlight, weil es wirklich Zeit wurde, die alten Karten loszuwerden.
Dank Martin Bubenheimer weiß ich aber, dass es in manchen Installationen auch verschwinden kann. Bei mir war im Desktop alles ok, aber im Web ist der Zustand noch alt. Ich vermute die übliche Rollout-Verzögerung.

2️⃣ 
Das Image Visual, was Bilder per URL einbinden, SVG und hochladen von Bildern verbindet und mehr Einstellungen ermöglicht. Eingeschränkt auch als Button nutzbar.

3️⃣ 
Auto-Resize für Spaltenbreiten in der Matrix

Ein Ignite-Update ganz ohne KI geht aber nicht und deshalb auch hier:

der MCP-Server für Power BI Modellierung ist nun da. 🤯 
Hands-On muss ich dafür aber noch separat etwas machen.

community events are passion!

there is a long way between the initial idea and the organized event.

Jon Stjernegaard Vöge told me how he organized Fabric Symposium and I recognized a lot of steps from my own Daten-WG experience 😅 

Idea ✳️ 
it starts with an idea and a lot of motivation.
This is the easy part.

Organizing ⛓️ 
the next step is harder, because there is a lot to do and there are small details around an event you are not aware about.
It is not only speakers + location + guests: but also food, booking, hotels, merch, infrastructure,... stuff you do not think about when brainstorming about great ideas.

Sales 📣 
pricing, cost and setting up the sales process is another big topic to think about. Having a ticket price reduces no-show and helps to afford the necessary investments.
But no matter if you sell tickets or have a free event: I would reccomend to start the invitations just after the idea and some basics done, but before the details.
Why? Because without visitors, there is no event. 
Contant awareness and contact are key to get people there
It is not done by "having a great offer" or by just one LinkedIn post

Execution 💫 
There is the unexpected last minute stuff..  delays, no-shows, tech not working, where to put the empty coffee mugs and so on...
But when you are there, you have already made it!


and then:
what are we doing such events for?
I think it is just passion.

Use-Cases for Writeback in Power BI?

it is not just comments and planning!

Master Data Management is also a powerful use-case:
when you see some data quality problems and you are able to fix them right from the dashboard.
Wouldn't that be a great addition to the Data Health Dashboards by Jasmin Simader ? 😉 

Jon Stjernegaard Vöge has another cool idea for translytical use-cases:
managing dynamic Row-Level-Security 💫 

We also mention the Session by Michael Carlo from the European Microsoft Fabric Community Conference where he used Copilot to create comments and overcome the current input limitations of the text slicer.

müssen UND-Filter kompliziert sein?

das Thema aus der Diskussion rund um Datenmodellierung und "was ist wirklich einfach?" hat Martin Bubenheimer dazu motiviert, mir konkrete Fragen dazu zu stellen und auch morgen BI Thinkers Talk - Fabric Data Days Edition mit Marcus Wegener und mir dabei zu sein:

Das letzte Mal als er dabei war, hat er die Belegkette-Challenge gerockt und war als VIP in die Daten-WG eingeladen worden.

Die Session ist es also auf jeden Fall Wert, um dabei zu sein.
Lohnt sich schon alleine, weil Martin es immer wieder schafft, mich mit erstaunlich realitätsnahen Anforderungen ins Schwitzen zubringen - ich bin auch diesmal sehr gespannt 😆 


Das kleine Beispiel vorab fand ich aber noch sehr gut lösbar, aber ich mag eben auch verschachtelte Measures.

Die Aufgabe war für mich mit OBT (One Big Table) auch bei diesem kleinen Beispiel komplexer zu bauen - was ja genau meine Botschaft ist, dass sich ein Stern-Schema fast immer lohnt, wenn wir zeilenübergreifende Logik haben, weil das eine OBT überfordert.

Ich hätte schon hier ummodelliert. Aber bei nur den zwei Dimensionen ist der Unterschied eigentlich minimal. Mit mehr Filter und Dimensionen sowie Granularitäten wird es spannend.
Ein Stern ist skalierbarer.
