This made me emotional.

I don’t personally know this guy Ben West, so I’m finding it difficult to find him on here in order to tag him (if anyone can I’d greatly appreciate it).

BUT…

This video is a testament to finding something bigger than yourself to contribute to. It doesn’t have to be as big as a ‘higher calling’ or purpose in life, but it should be something you do as an act of love.

It’s also a testament to the idea of using your struggles for good. A tai-chi-esque way to redirect negative energy toward positive outcomes.

You can clearly see the pain this guy went through, and likely still harbors, losing his brother. And you can also clearly see how it motivated him to make this world a better place. 

This life is full of hardship, but it’s also full of beauty. 

At risk of sounding corny or cliché, I’d like to reiterate Ghandi’s saying, “Be the change you wish to see in this world.”

In a world full of hate, brain rot, AI slop, rage bait, war, and tragedy… be a Ben West.

“Holy sh*t, these people are 2.5x my age, but even they still get nervous on camera.”
 
The awkward body language. The visible self-doubt. That one drop of sweat rolling down his temple.
 
The guy didn’t just know his stuff, he was leading a global innovation department at a Fortune 500 company… But he was still camera shy.
 
This was the moment 20 year old me realized a few things:
 
A) Everyone’s human, 
B) Even thought leaders need help expressing themselves… 
C) I could build a business around this!
 
So I coached him through the nerves. I suggested we take a beat, and just talk through the elements we were discussing that excited him the most. Then, we channeled his alter-ego, the ‘Super Him’ to see it through.
 
Wow, what a difference that made.
 
The guy came to life. He went from slumped over and nervous, to confident and animated.
 
And witnessing it all happen live, right before my eyes, was the very first inkling of Magic Media. That feeling that, “hey, I can make this a thing.”
 
I was already getting paid a pretty penny for this work (especially as a 20 year old), and I thought to myself, “what if I could score more thought leaders of his caliber, and do this type of work at scale?”
 
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t actually start the business for years later. But that was the moment the story began.
 
Without naming names, that guy went on to lead some of the most exciting brands in the world across many different departments, and has made a serious dent in the world with his impact.

I don't pretend it was all thanks to me - it wasn't, his success is his own - but if anything, I'm immensely grateful for that experience. It was the catalyst of hundreds of conversations with real change makers for years to come.
 
And I can wholeheartedly say I’m as proud of him as he is of me.

Reporting!!!

Gathering data from different platforms, figuring out what worked (and what didn’t) & why and then spending hoursss crafting a report

Having done reporting both as an in-house marketer and an agency strategist, I know how tricky it can be to show the right insights to the right people

& that’s why I’m slightly obsessed with Planable’s new 'Customizable Reports'  👀🤭

Instead of forcing one generic report for everyone, you can shape your reports around the audience → client-facing, leadership-ready, or decision-focused!!!

& you can add the context that makes your numbers actionable, all without starting from scratch every time

Social media reporting got a glow up 👀

Why does getting a post approved take longer than making the post? 🥹🪄


It’s not because people don’t care or that teams aren’t capable. But because most approval processes weren’t designed for the way modern marketing actually works!!!

Content today moves fast & platforms move faster. But approvals are still happening across Slack threads, email chains, Google Docs comments, and the occasional “sorry just saw this” three days later 🙂‍↕️

And when you’re working with clients, that friction compounds. More stakeholders, more opinions, more back-and-forth and by the time everyone’s aligned, the moment (& trend) has already passed - which is frustrating because this isn’t a creativity issue, it’s a systems issue

This is where Planable comes in. Not because it’s “another tool” but because approvals actually sit inside the workflow instead of being this awkward step at the end (which is especially helpful if you're juggling multiple clients, accounts, and stakeholders!)
