In 2016 he acquired and later sold Jungle Disk, a cybersecurity company previously owned by Rackspace. He co-founded CyberFortress, a VC-backed insurtech startup in 2018 (where he also became a Talentism client!). He also co-founded Porthcawl Holdings, a value-driven technology holding company, investing in startups and businesses in the SaaS and bitcoin space.

Huw holds an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Ford Scholar and Baker Scholar, and holds undergraduate and masters degrees in mathematics from Oxford University,

Huw is a proud Welshman who lives with his wife and young son in San Antonio, Texas. He is a board member of the local Entrepreneurs Organization responsible for the Accelerator program, helping budding entrepreneurs scale their businesses to 7-figures. He is also Vice President of Programming for the Harvard Business School Club of San Antonio. It's Thanksgiving day here in the US.

Most people use today to list what they’re grateful for.

But if we’re honest, the things we’re most grateful for are the things that forced us to grow.

The setbacks that sharpened us.

The pressure that exposed us.

The moments we thought would break us, but didn’t.

We're not just thankful for the wins.

We are thankful for the stretch that reveals the better versions of ourselves.

So here’s to the challenges that made you better.

The people who held you to a higher standard.

And the version of you that refused to quit when shit hits the fan.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Your work priorities need your attention. 

But your body needs movement too. 

You need mental fuel to sustain your drive.

Doing something physical will provide your mind with that fuel.

You don't even need to be a fitness freak.

A few minutes' run, a few reps of weight lifting, or a walk is just fine.

Anything that engages your body engages your mind.

An engaged mind never runs out of momentum.

A better approach:

- Make recovery a part of your schedule

- Sleep early if you can, and let your subconscious do the processing

Your body needs a breather

Give it space to process, recover, and adapt.

Growth happens in recovery.

Here’s how I think about growth:

- Big picture: If you’re always the best in the room, you’re in the wrong one.

- Plan: Get around people who challenge the way you think.

- Actions: Ask better questions, study their mindset, not just what they do.

- Execution: Ignore sabotage thoughts, show up, learn fast, and apply immediately.

The goal is to become the best versions of ourselves.

Plan on always being in rooms that force you to level up.

I spent years chasing happiness.

Until I realized you don’t chase happiness.

You create the conditions to attract it.

It’ll easily find you doing things that fulfill you.

But if you chase it, it’ll leave you longing, hoping, and frustrated.

I didn’t quit alcohol because I had a “problem.”

I quit because my kids deserved a father operating at his full power, not a slightly dulled version of him.

Here’s the truth most dads won’t say out loud:

Alcohol wasn’t destroying my life…
It was quietly lowering the ceiling on who I could become.

And nearly four years ago, I decided I was done handing over even 1% of my edge.

Here are 5 reasons why I gave up alcohol as a dad and why it was one of the best decisions of my life:

1️⃣ Mornings mattered more than nights.
I realized the cost of a couple drinks wasn’t the drink itself—it was the next morning.
The fog. The sluggish start. The “I’ll get to it later.”
My kids don’t need a dad who’s 80% charged.

2️⃣ My emotional leadership got sharper.
Alcohol blunts awareness, and awareness is how you lead your family.
I wanted to notice the micro-moments… not numb them.

3️⃣ I wanted my sons to see strength, not coping.
Kids don’t listen to what we say—they watch what we do.
I never wanted my boys to think the answer to stress was at the bottom of a glass.

4️⃣ My energy skyrocketed.
Not slightly. Not marginally.
I mean a noticeable jump in clarity, drive, patience, and consistency.
My workouts, my business, my marriage—everything leveled up.

5️⃣ Alcohol didn’t align with the legacy I’m building.
I’m chasing generational change.
And it hit me… you can’t build a legendary legacy with habits that make you less legendary.

I didn’t swear off alcohol because I was weak.
I walked away from it because I finally understood how strong I could be without it.

Most of our wounds aren’t from others — they’re from ourselves.

This morning I cut my nose… with my own thumb.
I was just grabbing my hat at the gym, and boom — blood.

It’s a small cut, but it made me think about something much bigger:
How many of the “wounds” we carry in life are self-inflicted?

The missed opportunities.
The habits we know are hurting us.
The promises we keep breaking to ourselves.
The times we let fear, ego, or comfort win.

We point fingers at circumstances or people…
But deep down, we know — we’re often the ones standing in our own way.

The good news?
If we’re the ones causing the wounds, we also have the power to heal them.
Through awareness. Through discipline. Through action.

Every cut — physical or emotional — can be a reminder:
