And once in a while, you walk into a room that reminds you why you enjoy your work the most.

I went to Zain Kuwait’s Demo Day yesterday.

The energy was calm.
Not loud. Not forced.

Just people talking about problems they actually live with.

As someone who spends a lot of time listening to how leaders speak, moments like this stay with me.

Because their conversations didn’t feel practised. They felt real.

I learned a lot.
And I’m really glad I showed up.

I didn’t get featured because I “built my personal brand.”

In fact, I stopped trying to be visible.

Before Kuwait Times,
before KTV 2,
before client wins,

I was a teacher obsessed with one thing:

Are people actually understanding what I’m saying?

Not performing.
Not polishing.
Not chasing reach.

Just clarity.

Over time, I noticed something while working with founders and executives:

They were doing meaningful work,
but their online presence didn’t show who they really were.

Not louder.
Just misaligned.

So I wrote.
Quietly.
Consistently.

Eventually, the right people found it.

No food. No water.
Still showing up. Still building. Still delivering.

So be flexible with meeting times.
Be mindful of lunch plans.
Offer support instead of assumptions.

Small gestures hit differently this month.

I’ve sat with founders and senior leaders who’ve built real things.

Big teams.
Big deals.
Real pressure.

And then they look at LinkedIn.

And freeze.

Because they don’t know what to share online.

Not because they don’t have experience.

But because they think it has to sound “smart”.

So they either:
Say nothing.
Or post like a brochure.

Both cost them trust.

I’ve seen it again and again in the #MiddleEast.

The leaders who grow online aren’t the loud ones.

They’re the clear ones.

Here’s what usually works when someone feels stuck:

Start with what happened this week.

A decision you made.
A pattern you noticed.
A mistake you won’t repeat.
A question you had to answer.

That’s it.

That’s the raw material of a personal brand.

Not quotes.
Not generic “leadership lessons”.

Just real work, in real words.

This week, try this:
Write one post that starts with:
“This week I noticed…”

And stop there if you have to.

Even that is better than a brochure.

I’ve worked with leaders across the Middle East who were already visible.

Speaking gigs.
Panels.
Podcasts.

But online?

They sounded like a brochure.

Their LinkedIn didn’t feel like the same person you meet in real life.

So, this is what we did instead:

• Pick one clear content umbrella
(an idea that keeps showing up)

• Write the way they talk in meetings
(saying less, not more, no fluff)

• Share small “proof moments” from the week
(decisions, patterns, lessons)

• Comment like a human on the right people
(not “great post!” spam)

• Keep DMs clean
(no pitch, just context)

No big claims.
No polished “thought leadership.”
No trying to sound impressive.

Most people think “salesy” comes from selling.

It doesn’t.

It comes from trying too hard to sound impressive.

In the #MiddleEast, people don’t follow because you’re loud.

They follow because you feel familiar.

This week, try this:

Write one post the way you’d explain it to a friend over coffee.

Same words. Same tone.

If it sounds like you out loud, it won’t sound salesy online.
