The non-billing manager era is fading.

For years, being "off the tools" was something people celebrated.

A badge of honour.

A signal that you were progressing quickly in your recruitment career.

But there's a trend I've seen consistently this year across some of the most successful recruitment companies I've met:

They have fewer and fewer managers without a personal billing or contribution target.

Not more.

And honestly… I'm not surprised.

Here's why:

1️⃣ The knowledge gap has never been bigger.

What it takes to succeed in today's market is so different to what worked even 2–3 years ago.

If you're not close to the market, close to customer expectations, and close to today's market nuances, your ability to coach effectively drops fast.

2️⃣ "Do as I say, not as I do" doesn't work anymore.

Most recruiters don't respond to that style of leadership.

They want leaders who can model the behaviours they're being asked to adopt.

People who still feel the rhythm of the market, not just talk about it.

3️⃣ The best companies are shifting the model.

Nearly every high-performing business I've spent time with this year has a management layer full of people who are still contributing.

Not necessarily full desks.

But still revenue-generating.

Still proving they can lead from the front.

The non-billing manager will always exist, and some are incredible.

But I'm seeing fewer of them every year.

4️⃣ The new career pathway looks different.

I don't see more and more recruiters stepping away from the tools early.

I see the opposite.

Those who want to lead are realising:

To lead well in this market… you need to stay closer to the market.

This isn't a criticism.

It's just the direction things are heading.

The best recruitment companies today?

They're building teams where leaders still contribute, still obsessed with understanding their market, and still operate in the same reality as the people they manage.

What will recruitment look like in 2026?

I don’t usually like making predictions.

But after dozens of interviews, hundreds of conversations, and a ridiculous amount of data from this year and being asked this question a few times recently.

These are two trends I can’t ignore heading into 2026 

#1 - Trust will be the new battleground.

Trust has always mattered in recruitment.

But in 2026?

It becomes everything.

We’re heading into a world where trust is being eroded from every angle:

Was that video real or AI-generated?

Was that email written by a recruiter or ChatGPT?

Is this DM from a person or a bot?

Is that “market insight” actually true?

And that’s just the surface.

From a client or candidate’s perspective:

“Can I trust this recruiter with my career?”

“Can I trust them with our brand?”

“Can I trust they’re even who they say they are?”

“Is this candidate / person real that I am interviewing?”

As tech gets louder, and automation accelerates, human trust becomes the differentiator.

Everyone wants to be the “go-to recruiter” in their niche.

But here’s the truth:

You’ll never be the most in-demand recruiter, until you’re the most trusted one first.

Recruitment businesses need a deliberate trust-building strategy now, not in two years’ time.

#2 - The market is splitting: more small agencies, fewer big ones

I don’t think recruitment is slowing down.

I think it’s splintering even further.

And the biggest shift?

More lean, high-margin agencies and fewer traditional “scale to 100 people” plays.

Nearly every market report shows ~80% of UK recruitment agencies have under 10 employees.

I genuinely wouldn’t be shocked if that pushes closer to 90% in the next 2+ years.

Founders have real options now to grow profit in their business.

AI, Automation, Outsourcing.

Not the traditional add 2-3 £250K billers to my business this year which will mean X to the bottom line.

Plus… a lot of founders simply don’t want the stress of 30–100 people anymore.

And let’s be honest:

The economics of UK-only recruitment have got harder.

Lower average fees.

Higher operating costs.

Harder margins.

Which is why so many UK recruitment companies I’ve spoken with this year do 90%+ of their revenue in the US. (There’s a reason for that…)

So if you are trying to scale:

You need to be absolutely dead-set on it.

Clear on the path.

Clear on the sacrifices.

Clear on the long-term plan.

Because the alternative small team, high leverage, tech + outsourcing heavy is becoming more attractive than ever for founders.

Those are my two takes for 2026.

I might be completely off 🤣

But it’s what the conversations, insights, and patterns are pointing toward right now from my point of view.

Office Christmas parties are one of the single most destructive things you can do for your business, 

Before I became a coach I worked in hospitality for 14 years and I saw it all. 

❌2 people threw glasses at me when I wouldn’t serve them

❌Countless injuries and unnecessary fights between staff. 

❌So many people saying shit to their boss that they shouldn’t. 

❌The boss saying shit to people that they shouldn’t 🤣

❌Jonny big bollocks getting flattened by the bouncer after being refused entry. 

❌Company credit card getting a beasting 

Most don’t want to attend and yet they feel obliged to. 

There is often no consideration for people that don’t drink alcohol either. 

I have seen countless people destroy their careers over the years. 

They get pressured to attend by the senior management team and then get fed bottomless alcohol and they then wonder why their behaviour is so bad…. It’s a real head scratcher isn’t it? 

So if you are attending your Christmas party really think about what you want the outcome to be, no one ever got promoted at Christmas party but many people have lost their job. 

Am I saying don’t have fun and celebrate? No. But does that mean you have to get absolutely wankered in the name of “building morale”? Also no. 

You can socialise, dance and sing without alcohol and still get home, job in tact, good nights sleep and a productive start to your day tomorrow. 

Something to think about.

Lose weight? “You look amazing”

Stop smoking? “Well done to you”

Leave a bad relationship? “Great news, it obviously wasn’t working”

Remove alcohol? “Did you have a problem”

Then comes the gaslighting. “I can have a few and I’m fine, you just need to learn how to moderate”

Again, we don’t go up to up to someone that’s overweight and say “why did you stop eating junk food and do all that exercise? You just need to learn how to moderate” 

Also, what if you did have a problem with alcohol? Isn’t the point of human existence to solve problems and grow? 

There’s so much shame still attached to it so there’s no wonder so many people still drink it though they want to stop. 

When you do remove alcohol, every single area of your life gets better and the only regret you’ll have is that you didn’t do it sooner. 

I couldn’t care less if you drink. If you do remove it or take a break from alcohol however, it will change your life in ways you can’t imagine.

6 years ago I was sacked from the most toxic job I’ve ever had, 


They said my face didn’t fit their “culture”.

The organisation was about as “cultured” as a urinal cake from a working men’s club. 

Today I’m in London with my business partner as we’ve been nominated for best start up in the UK and I’ve been nominated for best neurodiverse founder as well. 

I am so grateful for those absolute whoppers that me set me free from a job I despised so I could find my true calling. 

Sometimes it’s not rejection, it’s redirection.

And? 

Sounds like a them problem. People are so desperate for gossip and chaos. 

3 people have messaged me directly to tell me someone did a post slating me. 

I post content everyday for 2 reasons. 1. To help people. 2. To make money. 

When you post content you leave yourself wide open for criticism. Some will love it, some will hate it. 

Thats the trade off of putting yourself out there everyday. 

Often the criticism is from someone that’s  only post was to announce how delighted they were to being promoted as Chief Helmet Officer at Absolute Whopper Incorporated. 

I get to decide what it means. Ultimately, it’s just words on a screen. It doesn’t define me and what matters most is my opinion of me. 

I’ll keep posting content and changing lives. It’s what I was born to do. I’ll leave the keyboard warriors to criticise, it means I’m doing something right.

Well, we didn’t win, 


I was nominated for best Neurodiverse Entrepreneur of the year in the UK, 

We were also nominated for best service based start up. 

We didn’t win and I’m gutted. Thats the thing about being neurodivergent, perceived losses and rejection hit that much harder. In reality, I know it isn’t rejection, but the instantaneous response will always be there. 

That said, I am very grateful to have been there and if you would have told me 5 years ago when we started A-Game that we would be here, I would have laughed at you. 

Also, due to the amount of work I’ve done on myself I was pleased for the people that won as they were absolutely buzzing. 

For years I was told I had “potential”. My parents were told by teachers to “manage their expectations”.

Being employed wasn’t always easy for me for numerous reasons. 

I didn’t take rejection or criticism well. Still have challenges with it to be honest. 

My time keeping was ok but not exemplary.

I hated admin and the higher up I went the more I had to do. 

My ideas would often get ignored (some of them were shit to be fair 🤣)

So to have a category for people that were told they didn’t fit their mould of modern society is amazing in itself. To be recognised with a nomination is incredible. 

So while I would have loved to win, it really is about following the process and remembering that I won’t be appreciated/understood by everyone and I’m not supposed to be.

“I’ve never been more depressed in my life now that I’ve stopped drinking alcohol”


Someone commented this on my TikTok account. After a few messages back and forth he understood that Infact this isn’t true. 

He now feels all of his emotions good and bad rather than numbing them. 

He realised that the other habits he was doing each day were the reason why he felt like shit.

And that’s the issue. People think removing alcohol is a magic pill and that you’ll never have any challenges again. 

He was doom scrolling, not getting outside, drinking about 2 glasses of water a day, eating a shit diet and not socialising. 

That’s a guaranteed strategy for feeling like a dehydrated ball bag. 

Channel your energy elsewhere, use the time you have to focus on other things, start socialising again and for god sake take care of yourself properly. 

Drinking water, eating well and exercising shouldn’t be something you “have to do” it’s basic hygiene and part of being an adult. 

It can be incredibly challenging when you first stop drinking but what’s the alternative? Carrying on the pain you’re feeling now? Up to you.

A client of mine lied to me on a call, I called him out on it and couldn’t believe his reaction, 


He told me he was pushing himself so hard because he wanted to “give his family the best life possible.”
 He genuinely believed it.

I challenged him on it. 

“Is this really about your family? Or is it about you feeling insecure?” 

He went home after being away for a week with work and his wife said their son had asked why he never talks to him anymore.
 The kid thought his own dad didn’t like him.

He told me the buzz from that deal disappeared instantly.

Here’s the reality most business owners avoid:
A lot of the overworking isn’t about being a great provider at all. It’s insecurity dressed up as responsibility.
 Work becomes the safe place where you know what you’re doing, and home becomes the place you quietly hope sorts itself out.

At work you feel competent. At home you’re not sure what’s expected, so you stay in the environment where you feel in control and call it “sacrifice.”

He eventually admitted he was hiding behind the idea of “doing it all for them,” when really he was doing it because it was the only area of his life where he felt confident.

So we stripped it back and made his personal life something he intentionally worked on.

He started being present. 

He communicated with his wife properly. 

He spent genuine time with his son rather than squeezing him into the gaps of his week. 

Nothing dramatic, nothing Hollywood, just consistent effort in the right direction.

Six months later his son sprints to the door when he gets home. 

He told me that watching his boy score at the weekend felt better than closing that contract. 

He laughed and said, “Turns out I wasn’t a bad dad, I was just never there.”

This is the part no one wants to admit:
Most men aren’t “doing it for the family.”
 They’re doing it because they don’t know who they are without work propping them up.

You can grow a successful business and still be the kind of father and partner your family actually wants around.
 But you won’t do it while hiding behind the old story.

I used to be so weak. 

Not physically, but mentally.

Using alcohol to escape my emotions. Turning to junk food as a vice for “comfort”. 

Going to pure gym and doing nothing but bro lifting. Everyday was arm day 🤣

The biggest flex I have now is that my 37 year old self would destroy my 25 year old in every metric. 

It’s essential to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to grow and it’s something I do everyday. I refer to it as intentional adversity. 

This is me pushing 300kg on the sled push. Why? Why not. 

Doing hard shit like this pushes me each day and helps me deal with the challenges life throws at me.

Doing hard shit, prepares you for hard shit and it doesn’t come much harder than a 300kg sled push, 

I used to train to be validated by others. If people were giving me attention, it served a purpose. 

Until it wore off and I needed another hit. 

For years I would overeat, drink too much and then punish myself in the gym afterwards. 

The main problem was I had no idea who I was or what I actually stood for. 

I was living out of alignment due to an outdated identity that was stuck in people pleasing and searching for validation.

My biggest flex is that I can now outperform my 25 year old in almost every metric. 

Pushing 300kg on a sled isn’t about big biceps and washboard abs. It’s to push my mind and body to its limits for the right reasons as it prepares me for the shit that life throws my way.

Client closed a £1.25m deal and went home buzzing, he was shocked at what was waiting for him at home, 

His wife looked at him and said: 
“Your daughter asked me today if you even like her."

He’d spent 4 months negotiating that deal.
Late nights, strategic planning and endless trains down to London. 

He’d spent about 6 minutes total with his daughter that week.

Here’s what kills me:

You’ll spend 3 hours preparing for a board meeting.
⤷ You won’t spend 3 minutes asking your kid about their day.

You’ll track revenue KPIs obsessively.
⤷ You have no clue what your wife actually needs.

Then you wonder why success feels so empty.

He asked me:

“Is it possible to feel accomplished in my personal life the way I do professionally?"

Mate, you already have the skills.
Strategic thinking. Problem-solving. Showing up consistently.
You only apply them at work.

What he did:

Hired me. Then we got a plan in place. 

Scheduled family time, like board meetings. Non-negotiable.

Actually asked his wife what she needed.

Learned what his kids cared about.

Showed up. Consistently.

Six months later, his daughter runs to the door when he gets home.

And he felt the same buzz watching his kid score a goal as closing that deal.
Maybe more.

You can build a £5 million company, but can’t rebuild a relationship with your kid?

Bollocks.

You just haven’t decided it’s worth the same effort.

You’re applying world-class strategy to your business and not to your family’s future.

Most men tell me:
"I’m doing this for my family."

Nah mate. You’re doing it for you.
Your family doesn’t want the bigger house.
They want YOU. Actually present.
Your move.

Are you willing to apply the same intensity to the people who actually matter?

Or keep building empires whilst your family falls apart?

You can’t drink alcohol and perform at your best, 


Can you make money? Yes. 

Can you be healthy? Yes. 

Can you be happily married? Yes. 

Can you perform at YOUR best? No. 

The thing is, it’s the ugly mirror most people don’t want to look in. 

Even if you only have 1-2 drinks on a Saturday night, it’s ruining your sleep and productivity levels the next day. 

Are you happy not showing up as your best self for you and your family 52 days a year? Nearly 2 months? 

Now I know you might be thinking “I drink and I’m fine” or “I drink and I’m successful”.

Good for you, but not my point. You could be performing at even higher levels and be even more happy/fulfilled. 

“I would be happier drinking with my mates than if I stopped”. 

Nope. Alcohol makes you feel that way in the moment but it also increases anxiety and stress so it’s just not factually correct. 

Am I saying you shouldn’t socialise then? Fuck no. You just don’t need a liquid to have a good time. 

“But I don’t want to stop drinking, I like it”

Good for you. I don’t care.

Your family doesn’t need your money, they need you, 


“I do everything for my family”

Yet you get home after spending another 5 hours on a deal and now they’re in bed. 

“I would die for my kids”

Would you go sober and get healthy for them? 

Look, I get it. I’m not attacking you, I have a deep level of empathy for where you’re at and want to hold you to a higher standard. 

You’re holding back from being truly fulfilled due to the guilt you’re carrying around like a dead weight. 

You don’t feel worthy of happiness so you start to sabotage it. You avoid the gym yet again. 

You promise yourself it’s the last glass of wine before reaching for a bottle…. Again. 

You tell your kids you’ll play with them after work but don’t get home until 10pm. Again. 

It’s exhausting isn’t it? Just for a second, picture the following. 

-Your business still thrives but doesn’t demand every minute of your time. 

-Your partner has never been more drawn to you and wants to have sex with you.

“People with ADHD can’t stick to anything” 


They get distracted easily. 

They are impulsive. 

They can’t focus. 

These are just labels that others attach to something they know nothing about. 

You don’t have to take on other people’s labels, they don’t define you. 

I’ve been studying Spanish recently and have a 133 day streak currently. 

Here’s how I’ve stuck to it (this can apply to any habit) 

-Set reminders (and lots of them) 
-Block it out in your calendar 
-Set yourself up to succeed 
-Set your environment up properly 

It really is that simple.

The only limits are the ones you put onto yourself.

I have never felt good enough and it comes from my school days, 


I wanted to be liked as I didn’t like myself. 

I didn’t like myself because I was comparing to others. 

All I could see were better grades and people having more friends. 

Teachers told my parents I was a nice boy but didn’t apply myself. Little did we all know I had undiagnosed ADHD and Dyspraxia. 

This caused me to wear a mask and become someone I didn’t want to be to try and get validation. 

A pattern I carried out most of my life. 

I then turned to drugs, alcohol, one night stands and pushing people away that actually loved me as I didn’t feel worthy of it. 

This led to being confused about my identity and what I actually stood for as a man. 

What do I actually believe? What are my values? Do I have any morals? 

I was so far out of alignment and didn’t know where to start. 

When Covid hit it was a time to reset and get some space. 

I decided to take a break from alcohol. I never liked alcohol and hated feeling out of control but it helped to “fit in”. During lockdown I had no one to impress. 

I went back to basics. 

-Drink water
-Eat healthily 
-Exercise daily 
-Get outside 
-Start reading again 

The different this made was shocking. These simple steps compounded and led me to gaining clarity on what I actually wanted out of life. 

I lost 30kg of fat, stopped drinking alcohol and quit my job. 

From there I set up my own coaching business. 

It’s been going 5 years and we’ve achieved so many amazing things in that time. Coached over 500 people, turned well over 1.3 million in revenue, worked with pro athletes and celebs and much more. 

Do I feel good enough now? Absolutely. The main realisation I’ve had is that I was always good enough but I needed to allow myself to feel it. 

It takes a lot of work to fully accept yourself and I’m pleased to say I’m well on that journey.

You’re not “doing it all for your family”


You’re working so much because you’re burying your past and avoiding pain. 

You hide behind the cars, nice house and watch. 

You’re keeping people at an arms length and not letting anyone get too close just in case you get hurt again. 

You think paying the private school fees and taking your partner out for lavish dinners is the answer. 

Then you wonder why your kids won’t talk to you and only want mummy to put them to bed. (Again) 

You’re perplexed as to why your partner won’t have sex with you. 

It’s because you’re never there mate. And when you are there, you’re not present. 

Your work laptop is on the table at meal times and you take phone calls when you’re playing football outside with your kids. 

You touch technology more than you touch your partner. 

You hide behind bull shit phrases like. 

“I want to leave a legacy”

For who? Who gives a shit about your legacy?

Your loved ones will remember how you showed up for them as a man. Right now. Not in 40 years when you’re dead. 

No one at tour funeral will say “remember that deal Dad landed 15 years ago”

“I loved how my husband was able to hit so many KPI’s”
