Emmanuel is a digital technology executive with over two decades' experience across sectors and household brands. He is managing director at multi-format book retailer Shulph.

His mission is to design a future that helps people absorb new knowledge easier and faster, so that more of us can increase our capacity to accelerate the world's collective growth.

Emmanuel is also a corporate advisor and management consultant advising senior leadership at world-leading organisations. He does this through Sentinel Design, his business design and customer experience innovation vehicle. Sentinel pays special focus on helping executives adopt design-led frameworks such as design thinking and human-centred design across their digital transformation drives.

He led PwC’s digital experience design capability in London prior to starting his independent ventures. With a background in human-centred design and digital customer experience, his passion is in using design to provide a humane layer to the execution of digital and technology, and how it helps solve the most important business challenges in today's fiercely competitive digital landscape.

Over the last two years, I’ve read a lot of books about AI. These three books stand out as the most useful for senior leaders making real decisions today. Not hype or coding, but real commercial implications.

If you’re in the C-suite, these are the three I’d prioritise:

1. Artificial Intelligence – Yorick Wilks
This is the antidote to shallow AI discourse. The late Yorick Wilks forces leaders to confront what AI isn't, as much as what it is. It sharpens strategic thinking by separating genuine capability from inflated claims. That's critical if you’re allocating capital or reshaping operating models that lead to approving AI-led transformations.

2. Power and Prediction – Ajay Agrawal, Joshua Gans, Avi Goldfarb
This is the most practically valuable AI book I’ve read. It reframes AI as a prediction cost shock and then walks through how that cascades into decision rights, organisational design, pricing, competitive advantage and more. Essential reading for executives asking: Where does AI actually change my business model?

3. The Singularity Is Nearer – (the legendary) Ray Kurzweil
Often misunderstood, but vital. This isn’t about sci-fi timelines, it’s about exponential systems and second-order effects. For leaders thinking 5–10 years ahead, this book will expand your perspective on workforce strategy leaning towards human-AI collaboration and long-term competitive positioning. Some interesting neuroscience nuggets were a bonus for me, personally.
