I didn’t start Bibby Media Group to blend in. I started it to bet on the future.

There was a very successful man.

But he was miserable.

He regretted that he missed so much of his childrens early life.

He was busy working.

He went to see a psychologist and told her.

She asked, "so what are you going to do?"

He said,

"I am going to stop working. And for the next 5 years, I am going to spend every moment with my children"

And he did exactly that.

Because one day is not good enough.

I never planned on becoming a marketer.

I just wanted to be like my dad. 
So I studied finance.

One lecture on derivatives and I was out.
I swapped to marketing mostly because it looked fun…
and yeah, there were more girls in the course. 😂 

When I graduated, I moved to Phuket to help my dad sell property.
It was low season - which means no sunshine or buyers.
So I stared at my laptop and got to work.

I taught myself how to rank a website number 1.

By high season, we were getting 10 leads a day.
We sold out three developments. I was head hunted.

My career was off to a great start.
Then Google did something I’d never heard of.

An algorithm update.

Overnight, the old tactics stopped working.
Worse… they could get you blacklisted.

That’s when I learned the one rule that’s stayed with me for 20 years: If you want to survive in digital marketing, you’ve got to adapt. Constantly.

This clip is from eight years ago, but the lesson is more important than ever.

Back in the day, I used to rap in my time off.

Meetings all day. Studio at night.
Wu Tang between clients.

But I wore the suit. Spoke the part.
And never let anyone know what I was really listening to.
That was imposter syndrome.

The day I stopped hiding it
Walked into meetings with a little bounce.
Talking about the music I loved.

Something changed.
Some people pulled away.
But the right people leaned in.

That’s when I finally understood personal branding.

It’s not about logos or taglines.
It’s about showing up as you.

It's a risk.

Not everyone will like you.
Some people will critocise you.
Many won't do business with you.

But the ones who do... they’re YOUR people.

I'm not saying everyone in my audience likes rap.
But they do feel like they know me more because of that.
You can't fit in and stand out, at the same time.

I don’t rap anymore. I still love hip hop. But that's not the point.
For years, I hid parts of myself. Parts that made me.... me.

Now I’m an open book. 
And every time someone says, 
“Don’t say that,” or “Don’t do that,” 
I smile.

Because they don’t have a brand. 
Most of the time they're afraid.
Afraid of what other people will think.

You might say, but Nat why should I care about personal branding.
Here's why.

Every industry. Every platform.
Is about to get hit by an AI tsunami.

We are literally on the beach watching this thing come at us.
We’re about to be flooded with AI content, agents, and bots.

You won’t be competing against people anymore.

It’s human vs machine.
You won’t outsmart the machine.
It’s already smarter than all of us.

But it can’t be you.
That’s the only advantage you’ve got left.

The most important strategy of 2026.
In my view - building a personal brand.
The key word here is PERSONAL.

So stop performing.
Stop pretending. 
The only way to win is - to be real.

Follow these 3 steps:

1. Hold tight.
2. Cross your fingers.
3. Keep dreaming.

Legends.

When you try to “hack the algorithm,” you’re not outsmarting anything.

The algorithm is trying to serve people content they actually want.

So when you trick the algorithm.
You trick your audience 

All you are doing is getting unearned attention, and it is always short lived.

Because the algorithms get better 
The tricks don't work.
And you still suck.

Shortcuts feel smart.
They’re not.

They dilute trust and destroy long-term momentum.

The real move is this.

Deliver value in the way people actually want to consume it.

Align with the platform’s mission.

Because when the platform improves, your results improve with it.

Play the long game. That’s how you win.

Yesterday. Today.
20 years from now.

If I had to start from 0 tomorrow, here's the game plan I would use. 

I would set appointments with ideal clients, for feedback, not for business.

I would find businesses who serve the clients I want, and find a way to add value to them.

I wouldn't get business cards.
I wouldn't build a website.

And I damn sure wouldn't spend all day posting content and scrolling social media.

You don't need money to start a business.
All you need is customers.

If you are starting out and not getting anywhere, make these 2 moves and you will win.

Most people know me for the wins.
But they don’t know I almost didn’t make it through school.

Smart kid in primary school… 
then the wheels fell off.

I was angry at the world.
My parents just split. 
And I was at boarding school. 

In these moments, no matter how old you are.
The story you tell yourself determines your results. 

Mine was simple:
"I'm not good enough".

By 14–16 I was failing everything.
Skipping class. Teachers had written me off.

Year 11, I’m called into the Headmaster’s office.
Sitting there is the Headmaster, my Housemaster and Mum. 
Dad’s dialled in from Hong Kong on speakerphone.

One by one, they tell me the same thing:
“If Nathanial wants to go to university… he needs to repeat Year 11"
"He’s too far behind.”

They go around the room.
Every single person votes “repeat.”

Finally, it gets to my dad.
Silence.

Then he says:
“I’ve heard all of you talk… but I haven’t heard anyone ask Nathanial what he wants.”

My heart was pounding.
The truth is, I don't think I even knew myself.

I said, 

“To my knowledge, only Year 12 grades matter for uni. 
I’ll pull my finger out next year. No point repeating.”

I immediately thought what a stupid thing to say.

The room went dead quiet.
Everyone stared at that speakerphone, waiting for Dad's response.

What Dad said next changed the trajectory of my life.

He said, “If Nathanial says he’ll pull his finger out… that’s what’s going to happen.  He’s not repeating Year 11.”

And he hung up.

I walked out of that office, thinking to myself.
Damn right, that's what I'm going to do.

That was the day I learned the power of belief.

I went from failing for years… 
to “Most Improved Student” in Year 12.

Since I've been back to the same school.
To inspire the next generation of leaders.
I must've done 4 talks here so far.

Wild how life works when someone backs you.

Believe in your kids. Believe in your people.

And most importantly, back yourself - always.

Everyone talks about storytelling.
But very few understand why it works.

Why some stories stop the scroll.
And others… disappear in seconds.

It’s not luck legends... It’s psychology.

Stories bypass logic and hit emotion.
They make your audience feel something.

And when they feel something, you build trust, memory, and action.

A single DM changed how I show up on LinkedIn.

I’d been following Jasmin Alić and signed up for his LinkedIn live event.
A day later, a connection request popped up from Nathanial Bibby.

-Talk to one person, not everyone. Let your ICP see themselves in your first line.
-Conversation > broadcasting. Ask one real question and reply fast.
-Write like you speak. Vulnerable without oversharing.
-Rework what works. Double down on posts that drive comments, saves, and DMs.
-Light‑touch selling. Offer the next helpful step; let the DM carry the rest.
