This was the moment from our Cabo trip that I’ll carry with me for a long time.


My wife, Donnita, and I just returned from two beautiful weeks in Cabo. 

We made incredible memories:

🐋Watching whales and dolphins swim just off the boat

⛳ Playing golf in perfect 78-degree weather

🍽️ Amazing meals (if you haven’t been to Flora Farms, put it on your list)

☀️ Long, quiet afternoons by the pool with Donnita, doing absolutely nothing. 

But the most powerful moment of the entire trip happened on our last day.

I noticed a woman sitting by the pool reading my book, 𝘽𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣

I walked over and asked if she was enjoying it. She smiled and said she was almost finished.

When I introduced myself as the author, she looked genuinely surprised, and then she shared something I’ll never forget.

She told me her sister has epilepsy.

In that instant, the book was no longer just a book. It was a bridge.

A connection between two people who had never met, brought together by a story rooted in hope, fear, perseverance, and love.

She asked if I would sign it, and lucky for me, the bar had a Sharpie.

It felt like one of those moments that was simply meant to happen.

That brief conversation reminded me why I continue to share my journey, even when it feels vulnerable.

Because you never know who is listening.

You never know whose life epilepsy has touched.

As we head into 2026, my hope is to keep spreading Epilepsy Awareness and reminding people that they are not alone.

I was honored to be invited by John Barrows to join him on his podcast 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗜𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, and honestly, we could have talked for hours.

We didn’t just talk about careers or success.

 We talked about life.

🏥 Being diagnosed with epilepsy out of nowhere at 31 while living in LA.

 👏 Enduring five incredibly hard years trying (and failing) to control seizures with medication.

 🥼 Making the terrifying decision to undergo experimental brain surgery at UCLA (the first time they had ever performed this specific procedure)

 💪 Beating the odds, waking up seizure-free, and staying that way since 1998.

Then came the next leap of faith…

🎲 Rolling the dice and moving my family from LA to Seattle to chase a new opportunity as a full-desk recruiter in tech.

 😢 Going an entire year without making a single placement and wondering every day if I’d be fired. John couldn't believe the CEO didn't fire me for not making a single placement in a year.

 😔 Thinking about giving up more times than I can count, but knowing deep down this might be my last shot to build the life I wanted for my family.

And then…

 🙂 Everything changed. The following year, I broke company records, and I’ve never looked back.

This episode is about resilience, belief, and what happens when you refuse to quit, especially when quitting would be the easier choice.
