I HATE running events

and yet I run the largest B2B marketing conf in SF - Demand & Expand

I don't like running events because I'm afraid of professional embarrassment

I can live with a webinar crashing, an email going out that shouldn't have, things like that. Mistakes are part of learning and growth.

But events?

I have this crippling fear and anxiety of something going wrong. Like just standing on stage with power out or something. All this time, energy, (and money) just poof.

Last year I woke up at 2am with night terrors many times.

In 2007 I was working on the search marketing team at large B2C company.

We were using tools for algorithmic-based optimization paid media performance. (Efficient Frontier, anyone?)

In 2013 I switched to B2B marketing. 

In 2016, I thought "where are the B2B paid media tools?!"

I thought the same in 2017, then 2018.

Between 2014 - 2018 I sent over $1M on LinkedIn ads. All managed manually.

That's why I was so excited to see Vector launch their Bid Agent.

A great perspective on how AI is changing how marketing creates campaigns

Old way
> Campaign owner (eg field marketing) submits Jira ticket with details
> Marketing operations (eg campaign ops) asks clarifying questions
> Campaign owner answer
> Marketing ops drafts campaign
> Campaign ops wants changes
> Marketing ops makes changes
> Campaign owner approves
> Marketing ops approves and launches

Not unheard of for the process to take many hours, with the back and forth taking a week or more

We were meeting with the CMO of a public company and just 4% of their marketing team is able to create campaigns in Marketo.

He said "If just 20% could draft a campaign, that would be a huge unlock"

Well, now with AI it can easily be 50%

New way
> Campaign owner uses AI to draft campaign from a Slack message
> Campaign owner realizes mistakes and makes changes directly from Slack
> Marketing ops reviews and launches

Not only can anyone in marketing now draft a campaign, but the back and forth is now SO much less.
