Daily role entails analyzing market and economic trends to discern a best practice approach to sustainable energy solutions for the future of the resource exploration industry.

My main goal in this role has been to find solutions which reconcile the traditional poor environmental track record of extraction industries and a cleaner future.

Hi I am Dylan! 

I've been building businesses from the ground up for 12+ years. I am a recent Dad of 2 boys under 2.5! My work informs one goal…. to spend more time with my family. 

But, I wasn’t like this always. I ground myself to a nub for nearly 9 years and in 2019 I closed a business, I didn’t exit, I closed it. I failed. 

I was completely burnt out. I wasn’t just tired. I was medically burnt out, a doctor said, “you need to stop or you’re going to die”. I was 32. 

The thing is, I am an entrepreneur by trade; I love growing businesses from scratch. But I am not going to die for it, not again.

I founded Profit Launchpad, a hybrid of consultancy and agency, to address the foundational challenges service businesses face as they approach and surpass their first million in revenue, countering the common practice of overworking and under-earning.

Sold enough of these bad boys for the Model S, then made ones for the Model X and was able to scale up to 25 products for the Model S, X and 3 and deliver those products to thousands of customers worldwide.

Worked on a lot of pre-construction projects to help image the subsurface without actually digging aka Geophysics aka sending waves through the ground and figuring out what they look like when they come back up. Projects ranged from site investigations, Ground Penetrating Radar surveys, down-hole seismic and shoring/excavation design. Basically the projects ended up becoming incredibly tedious and I felt like I was not growing anymore. I also had started a side hustle (EVitems®) shortly after joining, and grew it to a point where I was able to venture out on my own as an entrepreneur. Grateful for the experience and it truly helped shape my take on a 9-5 no longer being the "dream job" in my eyes.

I helped open the first store in Vancouver, educated a ton of people about electric cars, trained more people as we grew, helped open the first Tesla Supercharger in Canada (Squamish, BC), sold a ton of Teslas, helped coordinate and manage events, cruised around in a $100k+ premium electric car, and made very, very little money. I was drinking the kool-aid like everyone else, but shortly after graduating university, I realized my "dream job" was somewhere out there and that I should probably put my degree to use. Tesla was a great experience where I dealt with tons of people - both internally and externally and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Decision-making is one of the most important skills you can build.

It takes logic, context, and confidence.

The best decision makers move fast with authority, but they’re not impulsive.

They’ve learned to create a small gap between what happens and how they respond.

There’s a real reason for that.

Your amygdala is basically your alarm system. It reacts fast, involved with stress, threat, defensiveness, and urgency.

Your prefrontal cortex is the part that helps you think it through, involved with reason, perspective, and self-control.

When you’re tired, stressed, or feeling triggered, that alarm system gets loud.

That’s when people: send the text/email they regret, turn a small issue into a big one, make a short-term call that creates long-term mess

And it doesn’t just hurt the outcome. 

It creates avoidable conflict, slows the team down, and chips away at trust.

A rule I try to follow:

Feel it first. Decide second.

Because emotions are real… they’re just not always accurate.

If you catch yourself about to react, here’s a simple reset that’s helped me:
- Pause (even 10 seconds)
- Label it (frustration, anxiety, defensiveness, etc.)
- Ask yourself, “What outcome do I actually want here?”
- Respond in a way that serves the outcome, not the emotion

You don’t have to ignore emotions.

Just don’t let them drive the decision.

I’ve always believed every skill is a muscle, and muscles only grow when you put in the reps.

Reps in:
- Communication
- Negotiation
- Analysis
- Leadership
- Creativity
- Decision-making
- Problem-solving
- Filming content

Even if you were once exceptional at something, that edge fades fast without practice. 

Sure, muscle memory exists, but it only gets you back to baseline, not back to excellence. 

Anyone who’s returned to a sport after time off knows the feeling: the mechanics are familiar, but the speed, sharpness, confidence, and intuition aren’t there. 

It’s always harder to rebuild a skill than it is to maintain or grow it when you’re actively working on it.

If you’re not consistently flexing those muscles, it’s nearly impossible to become great, or even good, at the things you say you want to achieve.

The truth is, the only real separator between you and everyone else is your consistency and discipline. 

Everything else can be learned, improved, sharpened, and mastered through repetition.

It’s the same reason 20 minutes of working out every day beats one long workout per week.

Consistency wins. Every single time.

Nobody accomplishes anything meaningful in a silo. Surround yourself with people who push you, inspire you, and challenge you, and keep putting in the reps.

Flex those muscles. Build those skills. Keep going.
