I've been building businesses from the ground up for 12+ years. I am a recent Dad of 2 boys under 2.5! My work informs one goal…. to spend more time with my family. 

But, I wasn’t like this always. I ground myself to a nub for nearly 9 years and in 2019 I closed a business, I didn’t exit, I closed it. I failed. 

I was completely burnt out. I wasn’t just tired. I was medically burnt out, a doctor said, “you need to stop or you’re going to die”. I was 32. 

The thing is, I am an entrepreneur by trade; I love growing businesses from scratch. But I am not going to die for it, not again.

Serving as the Director of Internal Audit, I assumed the role with limited resources.  Applying deep understanding of business processes and internal control needs, I identify control risks and processes in preparation for external audits, putting in place a solid foundation despite minimal guidance. I have been successful in identifying inconsistencies and providing solutions across business units while working on DCAA audit and remediation from prior accounting system failures. 

Key accounting and financial business process contributions: 
● Conducted SOX review with 35 detective and preventative controls tested, delivering a 1/3 failing rate as alert to management. 
● Conducted in-depth Ceridian payroll audit from offer letter through termination, identifying numerous weaknesses in access provisioning & role definition and summarizing to executive management.
● Appointed critical business partner to evaluate significant business operations and financial functions in partnership with executive team.

Director, Internal Audit

Promoted to Director, I oversaw corporate accounting as an integral leader in helping to establish the company’s stand-alone Corporate departments/functions, facilitating the company’s rapid growth phase. I completed due diligence for 9 acquisitions in two years with a time span for each close ranging from 3–6 months. I demonstrated self-guided leadership in managing corporate property and casualty policies with no prior experience. I served as a trusted stakeholder and ensured a meticulous reporting structure, as the Oracle GL ERP owner, to clean up COA for the company.  As an advisor, I performed technical accounting, offering advice on key business transactions across the company to include current and pending pronouncements while ensuring compliance with GAAP. 

Key accomplishments in building company financial structure, facilitating M&A, and improving processes include: 

● Set up stand-alone company structure (including systems LeaseQuery, Finario, Blackline, and Concur T&E) in one year. 
● Completed nine acquisitions in two years, five of them in last quarter of fiscal year close. Closed books with clean audit after switching external auditors, integrating numerous companies simultaneously. 
● Assumed Assistant Treasurer function, establishing FM, LLC PAC for political contributions and performing FEC filing requirements. 
● Appointed trusted advisor and subject matter expert for setting up new lease software (LeaseQuery). Served as ASC 842 lead resource after adoption, prior to sale from public parent.
● Appointed Finance lead for annual financial statements and Notes and Disclosures presentation.

Director, Corporate Accounting

Fairbanks Morse,  LLC (DBA Fairbanks Morse Defense)

I was initially hired to assume the Accounting Manager role and was quickly promoted to Controller for FMD, a U.S. defense contractor.  In the Controller position, I completed due diligence to prepare the company for sale to a private equity firm, quickly modernizing manual processes and updating outdated policies. As part of financial reporting (monthly and annual), I performed standard financial procedures, including monitoring cash flow and balance sheet, and performing key expense reviews. I led audits to ensure compliance with internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley. Influencing the financial and growth strategy, I supported businesses across all aspects of operations and management while supporting SEC filings and managing tax requests and fixed assets. 
Key accomplishments include:

● Selected to attend in-depth leadership training in France, as one of a select few chosen.
● Led accounting procedures for M&A, establishing new, separate corporate structure from existing parent structure. 
● Completed due diligence for sale of organization from public company to PE firm. 
● Appointed lead manager for external audit, managing and updating documentation and timelines. 
● Improved vendor/customer relationships, boosting DPO and DSO metrics from 35 and 52 to 62 and 45, respectively. Implemented in-house AR and AP (from shared services model). 
● Reduced closing time 20% by centralizing close tracking, bringing reliability and transparency to financials. 
● Enhanced timeliness and completeness of journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring financial accountability in advance of audit.
● Improved, enhanced, and tightened capital acquisition approval, tracking and impairment review, leading to improved visibility across the organization.

Assumed COO role in small business with 100 employees and independent contractors with a variety of leadership responsibilities including human resources, payroll, compliance, finance, and logistics operations. Referred to as a “jack of all trades” by colleagues, I took initiative to learn new systems and processes to aid revenue growth and improve operational processes.

Accomplishments in identifying fraud and revenue loss, and aiding growth include:

● Identified financial fraud, conducted investigation, and retrieved company’s loss by ensuring swift resolution for company credit card misuse. 
● Diagnosed six-figure revenue loss, recommending procedural fix for inadequate rate structures (up to 20% discrepancies) and invoicing protocol. 
● Facilitated company’s growth (doubling in size) and acquisition of courier company by performing due diligence.
● Completed due diligence and on-boarded new company within six months, learning new systems for payroll and invoicing.

Chief Operating Officer

CoreLogic Insurance Solutions (formerly Marshall & Swift/Boeckh, LLC)

Following a promotion, I served as the Manager of Revenue Accounting and Contract Management, overseeing projects to improve efficiency, mitigate risk, and deliver growth totaling tens of thousands of dollars. In this role, I prepared financials & client invoicing, and performed financial reporting. Streamlining processes and reports made a large impact on the organization, aiding sales reporting, deferred revenue, and revenue recognition policies in compliance with GAAP.   

Key contributions include:

● Reduced product definitions from 95 to 17 for transaction-based activity. 
● Developed Price and Risk Committee Charter, streamlining sales proposals and assuring proper balance between price and risk. 
● Created and implemented SharePoint intranet tool to improve tracking contract ETAs, NDAs, and provide forward-looking revenue review tools. 
● Coached and mentored accounting team. 
● Completed due diligence twice. Identified as the main finance resource for separation and new integrations.

Promoted consecutively within the organization for several roles. Prepared 3-year plans, forecasts, cost and variance analysis, and financial reports. Implemented revised procedures and processes to reduce inventory shrinkage.

● Selected to present at Controllers Conference on talking points including division profitability impact.
● Recognized with company merit award for leading implementation of Oracle Financials, streamlining ledger from 75K to 25K accounts.
● Restructured company’s lockbox operations to improve cash receipts and managed investing and borrowing functions.
