Led the mobile strategy, mobile product development and mobile customer experience for the Cabela's brand and all of its retail locations.

I am proud of have launched the new Cabela's mobile website which you can visit at www.cabelas.com from your phone. To date, the site is performing off the charts. Triple digit percentage growth in visits, orders and sales. Our new user experience has dramatically increased conversion while giving the customer the best possible mobile experience. 

Was responsible for launching the SMS pilot program and planning the national launch for 2014 with my amazing team. The redemption rates to date are impressive and this will be a powerful component of the mobile strategy at scale. 

Developed the strategy for the new smartphone app approach for the brand and helped develop the feature and functionality requirements to begin development on this project.

Engineers Without Borders Australia

I was selected by Engineers Without Borders to travel to Samoa and help mentor a group of 30 Engineering Students from Australia, as part of the EWB Global Design Summit. 

The aim of the Summit was for Students to integrate with the Samoan people and design for real world challenges they were facing. 

In order for students to better create effective and meaningful engineering solutions, they would first need to learn to really see the world through the lens of the people they were designing for.  

I facilitated a series HCD workshops and activities to give students foundational tools including: User Research, Design thinking, Humanitarian thinking, Co-design, Strengths based design, Interviewing, Ideation, Rapid Prototyping and User testing. 

We then went and lived with local families in their villages, immersing ourselves in the culture and experiencing their way of living - getting a deep understanding of their challenges, needs, motivations and beliefs. 

Daily we worked with the villagers on their challenges and tested potential solutions along the way.   

At the end of the Design Summit the students presented their work to the Chiefs and senior community members. 

The students work was widely applauded. One standout presentation connected with the proud community on an issue they felt so deeply about, and the solution was so beautiful and simple - that audience members were in tears of joy and appreciation. 

This was an incredibly rewarding and valuable experience in my career and life.

Until that moment, I hadn’t been able to see this or say this clearly to myself.

For 20 years, I’ve been designing products and services for companies of all shapes and sizes.

Simplifying the complex. Untangling the mess.

Helping people find their way.

Making things usable. Desirable.

Creating things people actually want.

Helping businesses grow.

I’ve launched new ventures, transformed legacy systems, led innovation teams, and built my own business along the way.

But quietly, something started to nag at me.

It was all so disconnected.

Intangible.

Ephemeral. 

Over the last few years, that quiet nagging has turned into a shout.

I’ve become way, (way) more interested in connecting with the human behind the business. Behind the product.

And knowing their story. 

What makes them tick?

What do they need?

Because I’ve seen what happens when the solution comes before understanding.

And in a world that’s becoming more frictionless and disconnected by default,

I believe we’re losing something essential.

These days, I work with small businesses and teams to help them slow down and see the bigger picture.
