Director Operational Excellence - Ducted Systems

Implemented and led Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and Sales & Operations Execution (S&OE) organization and meeting cadence in alignment with Global S&OP standards for four Ducted Systems business units with annual revenue of over $1B.

Products included commercial packaged rooftop HVAC equipment, residential split AC and heat pump systems along with service parts distributed through factory-owned and independent channel partners.

- Co-leader for Organizational Health workshops for Ducted Systems including senior management
- Ducted Systems representative on Global Products Diversity and Inclusion Action Committee

Director Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) - Ducted Systems

Managed Program Management Office (PMO) team responsible for driving cross-functional programs for Ducted Systems business to successful completion. 

Programs included New Product Introductions (NPI) and Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives as well as operational excellence and sales channel business initiatives for the residential, commercial, international, and parts businesses.  

Other team responsibilities included competitive product teardown and costing analysis, process improvements, and internal communications for Ducted Systems.

- Executive Sponsor for Wichita Women’s Network Business Resource Group
- Key contributor in introducing new Kansas Leadership Center training program for Ducted Systems
- Co-host of Ducted Systems Leadership Podcast producing 30 episodes focused on applying innovative leadership principles to our business to help others throughout the organization make progress on adaptive challenges in their respective roles.

Director Operational Excellence and PMO - Ducted Systems

Responsible for a team leading cross-functional programs including New Product Introductions, Cost Reductions, and Sales Channel Initiatives for the residential and light commercial HVAC business in North America.

Served as Program Manager for completion of Light Commercial platform program beginning in this role while program was in-flight. Program budget was ~$13M of capital investment and involved the development of new products as well as factory assembly line in Norman, Oklahoma. Also served as Program Manager for multiple projects to expand Direct Fit product line.
  
Led Residential product new platform program supporting capital investment of ~$100M over 3 years to build UPG Residential business. Program introduced over 50 new product families with ~700 initial models following disciplined phase gate process.

Introduced program management disciplines to channel organization through initiatives designed to grow market share in key markets in North America.

Director - Program Management - Unitary Products Group

Formed and managed design engineering team with responsibility for all Johnson Controls Residential HVAC controls including equipment and zoning controls and thermostats. 

Additional accomplishments and responsibilities included
- Development of 5-year Residential Systems and Controls product and technology road map.
- Championed the adoption and implementation of phase gate Product Development Process
- Led a cross-functional, cross-business unit team to launch Johnson Controls' first residential color touch screen communicating HVAC system.

Formed and managed multiple HVAC new product introduction (NPI) teams and product launches. Projects included those manufactured in Wichita, Kansas and Mexico plants. 

Served as Design Engineer in various capacities with a focus on systems and controls.

Worked on a team pioneering high accuracy GPS and its application to earthmoving equipment.  Responsibilities included algorithm and software development, lab and field software testing, system integration, and presentation to customer and industry groups.  

Relocated to Brisbane, Australia as a member of a select product development team.

Working in this inner-city college, once of my roles was teaching on the Religion & Philosophy Programme.  These classes were hugely insightful and educational for both the students and myself as the classes were a mix of all faiths and ethnicities.  As lay chaplain I delivered presentations and sessions on cross-college themes to students and staff and helped organise and lead staff training days (Ethos days).  I set up numerous extra-curricular activities for students to develop their leadership skills, including a Tutor Rep Programme and a Charity Committee.  I introduced community projects for students to get involved in, including IT support lessons for residents at a nearby nursing home and a mentoring scheme at a local women's centre, where students mentored female refugees.  I also set up a Chaplaincy Team, working with both students and staff to help improve the pastoral support and community within the college.

During my time at this college I engaged young people in community work:  volunteering at a local soup kitchen to help feed the homeless, intergenerational computer classes, a weekly lunch club in college for pensioners, to name a few examples.  I helped organise three internaional volunteer trips for students to India and Sri Lanka, regular trips to retreat centres and an annual trip to Lourdes, giving students the opportunity to help the sick and elderly.  I taught General RE classes and regularly led college assemblies.  I enjoyed organising liturgies to mark key moments in the college and liturgical calendar.

As a chaplain I worked alongside the pastoral team offering support to both students and staff.  I was a member of the college's Equality & Diversity Committee and I attended governor's meetings.  I developed, implemented and facilitated the Community Induction Day for all new students on college life.  I organised conferences on religious dialogue in college, engaging both Christian and Muslim students.  I was also responsible for managing my own budgets.

Through this position I was also chair of the Association of Catholic Sixth Form Colleges Chaplains' Conference for three years. This role involved organising and facilitating two national residential conferences each year for other chaplains around the UK.

In my final year here I completed a Certificate in Catholic School Leadership.

In this role I introduced youth provision in a parish for teenagers aged 13-17 years.  This was challenging but enjoyable.  I was given a lot of freedom to develop social, formation and social justice projects using my own initiative and worked as part of the parish team

My main duties included pastoral visits to young offenders, receptions (induction of new detainees) and facilitating group work.  I found this work very exciting and it gave me a greater understanding of the social problems which young people face in Britain.  The role also allowed me to develop my counselling and listening skills.

My main role in this position was to develop a nationwide marketing strategy to recruit volunteers to work in international development projects. I was responsible for organising publicity in the national press, for developing and updating the organisation’s website and producing a quarterly newsletter for current and returned volunteers. I also developed links with universities, parishes and chaplaincies around the country. Through this position I developed my planning skills as well as public speaking and presentation skills.

Promotion and Recruitment Officer

I spent two years working in the Philippines on youth & community-based projects. I taught English to  young adults in an out-of-school programme and taught children at a day-care centre.  I also worked with student leaders in local schools, organising training seminars and retreats for college & high 
school students, enabling them to develop their leadership skills which involved working closely in the formation of a core-group of student leaders and staff in each school. I worked alongside prisoners in a rehabilitation centre and jail to develop support groups for the inmates. Through this position, my 
communication skills were developed since English was not the first language for most of those people  I worked with.
