You see things clearer when it’s a bit quieter and you’ve stepped back.

Last year I helped a client re-evaluate their perceived value and market position so they could connect with their right-fit clients. We used my Kn.own framework to build a marketing foundations doc the whole team could use.

The team were very appreciative - they now had a point of reference for shaping better conversations about what they do. However, after the project was completed, their socials still looked like the “old” them. I was wondering if they were reluctant to go all in, and was a bit disappointed after all the hard work we had put in.  

Over the break it clicked: they’d outsourced their socials, and the new direction hadn’t yet made it to the external team. That one was on me - I should’ve advised them on how to do that well. 

So yesterday, we pulled up their core doc and created a practical brand guideline: voice, tone, preferred language, messaging cues, and a light visuals guide. Because we’d done the foundational work, it was an enjoyable "first day back" task.

What do you want to the organisation to be known for in 5 years time? 

I was invited to a team’s strategic planning day yesterday. There was discussion around the various opportunities they had coming up over the next few years. 

As it often happens, the team started talking around in circles. Different leaders wanted different initiatives to be prioritised. 

That’s when I raised my hand to ask a clarifying question,  ‘you’re in the fortunate position of being in an expansion season, each of these imitatives you’ve mentioned are good. As a sense check though, in 5 years time what do you want to be *known* for? What reputation do you want to have and which initiatives will get you there?  

Then came rapid fire answers and …
