I'm not an economist.

This is not an economic prediction.

We were collectively riding a high from 2018 to 2019 economically.

Covid beat us all up.

And 2021-2024 felt like the economic gyration of recouping from Covid.

We were up, way up after being down, then down again, then economically hungover from it all.

While we were coming to life from a 3-4 year beat-up, we then had the AI rise and tariff Hokey Pokey exhaust the begeezus out of us in 2025.

I see people are tired.

I'm tired.

But I'm never giving up.

I'm done hearing excuses about tariffs, or ageism (yeah, add in some of us turned 50+ in the last 5-6 years), or other -isms with the DEI diminishing, or the economy, or AI.

Doesn't mean these things aren't real things that we contend with each day.

But I'm done hearing it's why you don't succeed.

The question we all need to be asking ourselves is how do we succeed in spite of our obstacles, our economy, political climates, or AI.

My answer for most of 2025 when someone blamed any of these areas for why it's hard was "Okay, so are you going to let AI win?" Or "Are you going to let the fact that you think they think you're old win?"

And now, for ALL of 2026, when someone blames any of these reasons for your situation, I can’t say I won’t be thinking quietly inside "Did you die?" …then I’ll take a breath, and I'll move on to the solution.

2026 is ALL about solutions. It's all I want to talk about.

And THAT'S why it's gonna be a good year.

A recent piece by The New York Times noted that so many job seekers have embraced AI tools that they've overwhelmed employers with AI-generated resumes.

That's the wrong way to use AI.

The right way? Strategic prompts that accelerate your discovery of networking contacts and employment opportunities.

I recently wrote an article for Martha Heller and Heller, outlining three specific AI prompts for executive job seekers.

Here's a preview of each prompt below:

1️⃣ Prompt 1: Make Interview Conversations More Fluid

Feed the AI your LinkedIn profile URL alongside your interviewer's profile URL. Ask for 10 ice-breaker questions for the specific role. The output gives you conversation starters that connect your story to theirs.

2️⃣ Prompt 2: Nurture Your Network and Spark Replies

Same approach, different goal. Feed both profiles to the AI and ask for 10 ways to reach out that will increase the odds of getting a reply. You'll get context-rich suggestions that move past generic requests.

3️⃣ Prompt 3: Target Employers Who Value Your Background

Ask the AI to analyze your profile and give you a list of 20 companies most likely to want someone with your background. This narrows the playing field to organizations where you have a realistic edge.

NOTE: the quality of these outputs depends entirely on how well your LinkedIn profile articulates your expertise and measurable impact.

If your profile is vague, the AI suggestions will be vague.

If your achievements aren't quantified, the AI can't match you to companies seeking those outcomes.

This is where most executives get stuck. They try these prompts, get mediocre results, and blame the AI.

But the AI is only as good as the information it's working with.

I have always thought January 1st was way overrated...

Too much expectation built into one day, in my opinion.

While everyone reset their goals and made New Year's resolutions, I treated January 1st like every other day.

And then a few weeks later, when all the corporate launch hoopla has calmed down, the gyms become less crowded (you know this happens 🤣) and everyone is running out of gas, already giving up on their resolutions, I launch my new year on February 1st!
