This is why you should be careful paying for “VC intros”:

𝟭) 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀

If they did, they wouldn’t be spraying DMs at random people.

𝟮) 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 “𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘀” 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱

You’re not getting "warm" relationships as much as they pretend. 

They will just spam you out in the hopes someone bites. 

𝟯) 𝗜𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴

Investors can smell mass outreach instantly.

Even if you get a call they will think you are desperate and think less of you.

Think about it:

Someone paid this firm to “open doors”…
…and they’re knocking on mine.

So if you’re raising, do this instead:

1. Build a clean target list (100+ funds)
2. Get real warm paths (operators, founders, experts)
3. Send thoughtful, specific outreach
4. Give more than you take 
5. Only then ask for potential intros 

Stop paying for “intros.”

Because they don't work. 

Instead, pay with effort. With work. 
Just like the top 1% of founders do.

P.S. Some paid for intros actually can work btw, but ~5% of the people doing it are like that. And you have no way of knowing who is good or bad. Most are spamming like this!

In 2018, I met a seed-stage company that I was excited about. 

The founders had: 

1. Previously built an app with 1 million users
2. Now building a high potential company 
3. Already hired amazing people  

I was hooked with the new company's vision. 

And believed that they had the potential to be truly game-changing. 

In fact, I still do... 

On paper, everything looked great. 

They were:

• Experienced founders
• Building a great product
• Targeting a large market
• And a track record of growth

But then it all came crumbling down. 

Why? 

Because we never actually met the CEO... 

3 meetings down and he kept saying he was too busy. 

How could we invest into a company when we hadn’t even met the leader? 

We decided not to waste our time and rejected the company in the end. 

This is why its so important to make sure its always the CEO conducting the first few meetings. 

Even if you think someone else may be better at telling the story.

A “3-week raise” is real. It just starts 3 months earlier.

Because the “fast raise” isn't something that just 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗳𝘀 out of thin air...

What it usually looks like in the wild:

1. Over 3–6 months, the market starts leaning in.
2. Multiple "random" signals to investors. 
3. Experts telling them you are one to watch. 
4. Other founders mentioning you. 
5. VCs starting to keep you on track. 

Those investors are watching (even if you don’t realize).

They’ve seen enough cycles to know the pattern:

Great founders execute… repeatedly… over time.

So by the time you “start the raise,” you’re not having to introducing yourself.

But instead just giving them a moment to act. 

RIGHT NOW. 

That’s where speed comes from:

𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆
You’ve been in their orbit long enough that they are starting to believe you can do it. 

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
They've seen you execute so well they know this is the last chance to invest.

A few investors don’t want to “wait and see” anymore, so they try to get in early.

Then one thing happens that changes everything:

A credible investor moves first.
A first term sheet (or a clear lead signal) hits the table.

And now the dynamic flips:

Now you're "hot" and everyone wants in. 

That’s how a "3-week raise" actually happens:

Not from waking up one day and “running a process.”

But from months (sometimes years) of compounding execution + investor awareness. 

Things you need to be spending every day doing.

Every Ramadan I’m reminded of how powerful Allah swt is.

Let me give some context.

I reverted to Islam in 2021 (funnily enough took two shahadas, one in 2021, and one in 2025 - a story for a different time!).

2021 was an interesting time for me. I was starting an MSc, was working full time because I needed the money to pay rent, and decided to start a new startup. 

2021’s Ramadan was particularly special to me. Not only because it was the year I reverted, but also because the things I asked for from Allah swt all came true that year. 

Every prayer since then I try to remember that for Allah swt, there is no “impossible”. 

🌊 He parted the seas for Musa (pbuh)
🤲🏻 He raised Isa (pbuh) to the heavens to protect him without death
❤️‍🩹 Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) performed numerous healings by Allah's permission

If He can do all this and more then why doubt he can give you what you ask for.

I’m particularly shown this in Ramadan. Every single Ramadan since I reverted there has been usually one specific thing I have asked for. 

This year I have been rewarded with multiple signs of direction towards the answer. 

Remember Allah swt doesn’t say “no”. He says “yes”, “not right now”, or “I have something better for you”. 

The Prophet (pbuh) warned that a person's prayer is answered as long as they do not become impatient and say, "I prayed and prayed, but I was not answered," and then give up.

Be patient, perform salah, ask fo forgiveness. And most importantly, never doubt Allah swt’s power.

This was one of the best 100% ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ calls I've had on Hubble.

As a two time startup founder (1 x bootstrapped, 1 x VC backed) turned venture capital investor, I've always wanted to help those avoid the mistakes I've made. And maybe share a few learnings along the way.

Whether at Techstars, Carbon13, Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation, Queen Mary Social Venture Fund, Virgin StartUp and more, I've always made it clear that my voice is just one. 

Each mentor will have a different perspective, it's your job to work out what comes up a lot and how to tackle those things.

Ramadan Mubarak to all my brothers and sisters partaking. Here are the tips I’ve seen during Ramadan.

Every Ramadan is a chance to reset, refocus, and realign with our iman an commitment to Allah swt.

Here’s how to make the best of this blessed month.

🌙 Start with Intention

Remind yourself: I’m fasting for the sake of Allah swt. 

📖 Build a Qur’an habit

Even 1 page after each salah adds up. Consistency > Quantity. 

🧎🏼‍♂️‍➡️ Protect your salah

Pray on time. Don’t let others stop you. Be focused, be present, don’t let distractions get in the way.

This is particularly challenging in non-Muslim countries where prayer times are not respected but it’s important to stand your ground and follow your beliefs

🤲🏻 Make dua daily

More than ever this is the time to ask Allah swt for support. Making dua is particularly powerful before Iftar, whilst in sujud, an during the last 3rd of the night.

🍜 Don’t skip Suhur

It’s an important and blessed time. Keep it light, hydrating, and nourishing. 

🕌 Break fast with Sunnah

Dates and water. Pause for dua before eating more. 

This year in the UK, Iftar clashes with the workday and most work places won’t accommodate. So take a late break, and make sure to remain focused during this time.

🫳🏻 Increase charity

Even small amounts daily. Give quietly and consistently. This isn’t about boasting or being the “best”, this is about you doing what you can.

And remember charity isn’t always monetary, it could be time based too. 

😶 Guard your tongue 

No gossip. No arguments. No negativity. Fasting is more than food and water. 

In times of difficulty, turn to Allah swt.

☝🏻 Aim for Laylat al-Qadr

Give your best in the last 10 nights. It’s better than a 1000 months. 

This doesn’t mean slacking the rest of the month, but it means leaning in when it matters most.

🛡️ Protect your energy

Limit scrolling, reduce distractions, don’t let people pull you down with their negativity. Be intentional with your time. 

📿 End with gratitude

Ramadan is a gift. Alhamdulillah that we are able to partake another year. Thanks Allah swt for reaching it.

And may we all reach Eid in good health, Insha’Allah.
