2 weeks ago, a started a new side-business. Here's an update:

For context:

I’ve started a physical business where I’ll be training students for IELTS. 

Questions I asked before launching:

- What is a proven problem in the market?
- Has steady demand... ideally till the end of time ;)
- Aligns with what I’m naturally good at.
- Can scale over time.
- And can eventually run without me.

So here’s how I’ve been approaching it:

1. First, I set up an Instagram account to start creating content, mostly educational posts, awareness pieces about what’s happening in the industry, and the gap I’m trying to fill.

2. Then I made a short introductory video, talking about my background, what I’m building, the kind of problems I’m solving, and where the business office is based.

3. I ran a small Instagram ad (just $30) targeted at my regional area to test the waters.

4. That ad started about 150 conversations, which was more than I expected for such a small test.

5. Meanwhile, I set up a small office + classroom to attend to people if they decide to visit.

5. After that, I hosted a mock class. A few people showed up, not a huge number but that's okay since there are bigger players in the market and I want to build a name first.

6. I cross-post with my other instagram account (18k) to borrow some credibility from it & so people can see I've done some stuff already (working with international agencies, building a remote career, my podcast, and running a business on LinkedIn)

Since then, I’ve been doubling down on two things:

1. Creating content to build digital presence.

2. Collaborating locally: I’ve partnered with a nearby café (pretty popular in the area) to host a free in-person event/workshop for this upcoming Tuesday.

The goal of the free workshop is to nurture the old leads, attract new ones, and make this business a familiar, trusted name in the region.

Mistake #3: Sounds like everyone else

Minneapolis has 10+ baseball facilities. Everyone promises "velocity gains."

Their page sounds identical to competitors.

The market needs a unique mechanism: "The Kinetic Sequencing Protocol used by 12 MLB organizations..."

Mistake #4: Zero risk reversal

Parents spending serious money on their kid's dreams... With zero guarantee.

That's a massive conversion barrier.

"Add 3+ MPH or full refund + 4 free sessions" removes all purchase risk.

Mistake #5: Fake scarcity

"LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE" means nothing.

Limited how? By when? What happens if I wait?

Real scarcity: "January Cohort: 17/24 spots filled. Deadline: Dec 20th. Next session starts March (after showcase season)."

The bottom line:

Most landing pages fail because they focus on features... Instead of understanding the psychological triggers that drive decisions.

This page could triple conversions without changing their offer or price.

Just by fixing the psychological messaging.

Most businesses are sitting on massive untapped potential... They just don't know the frameworks to unlock it.

I married my best friend 3 weeks ago.

Here's what it taught me about sales and marketing. 

Oh, I won't bore you with that at all.

Here's a highlight of what has been going on in my life over the last month:

- I married my adorable Wife and we attended the same primary school wayyy back in '05

- I played around with AI agents because it still fascinates me.

- We moved into our new apartment with my wife and I work from my home office.

Now you can spilt-test ad creatives before you say the word JACK.

Many of us are still priding ourselves of being a "Human copywriter" as if they don't use Google docs to write ( you could have used pen and paper since its more human LOL).

I have gone all in on AI on advance levels.

I can get hooks that shows my prospect's Ephiphany Threshold so I KNOW what to say and avoid saying like a PLAGUE.

The halo effect works BOTH ways.

One small credibility flaw can contaminate everything else about how prospects see you.

So that grammar mistake?

It didn't just make them question the coach's attention to detail.

It made them question their ENTIRE ability to deliver results.

Through their website copy...

Their social media posts...

Even how they show up on Zoom calls...

One inconsistency. One moment of looking "unprofessional."

And suddenly your Harvard MBA doesn't matter anymore.

Your track record gets questioned.

All because your brain got lazy with ONE small detail.

The fix?

Audit your entire client journey for "credibility leaks."
