What an SEO sprint actually looks like (with real numbers)

I've just created a list of hot 608 leads in the market for one of my clients' product based on just one competitor's post within 15 minutes while checking e-mails and drinking coffee.

Years ago, I learned from Dean Jackson about visible and invisible prospects. 

If you're selling roofing, houses with an old, partly damaged roof are visible prospects. Send them flyers or knock on their door.

It's tougher to get invisible prospects raise their hands, 
but your bigger competitors might be doing you a favor,
getting THEIR followers to raise their hand for you.

Such a raise of hands happens all the time on LinkedIn, but I've yet to see someone leverage it:

Imagine your competitor publishing a post saying "Comment GROWTH on this post to receive our framework to do XYZ."

The list of commenters below ... is a raise of hands of people who would love to have what that person promises.

Chances are, they're largely similar to your ideal client.

Now, fetch those names and linkedin profiles, and hand them over to sales
to follow up very timely (they want this NOW).

We live in a time where I can 

1. watch a conversation between Rand Fishkin and Michael King about AI search optimization (great talk btw) and while I'm watching it,

2. head over to chatgpt to brainstorm an idea for an app

3. take this idea to Gemini to formulate an SRS for development

4. take the SRS to Windsurf and get it to code a prototype using Anthropic Claude Opus 4.5

5. Add DataForSEO's API

and now, 2 hours later, have a working prototype of a rank tracker that tracks keywords + their fanout queries that I want to consider.

This provides me with a quick, overall idea of my client's topic-relevant visibility vs. their competitors, which we can use as one part of the visibility analysis.

Is it ready for production? No, of course not (yet).

Does it look pretty? Not really.

Does this approach still have flaws? Sure!

Is it good enough to run some tests for my clients and maybe share a few screenshots when they ask about their status in top fanout queries?

The one question that ended three weeks of paralysis.

A client came to a call stuck. He'd been trying to make a hiring decision for three weeks. Should he hire this person? Should he wait? Should he look for someone better?

He'd gone back and forth so many times he was exhausted.

I stopped him. Would you rather have this person, or nobody?

But what if—

No. You just answered the question. Hire them.

He laughed. Then realized I was serious.

Here's what kills a lot of people. They think more thinking equals better decisions. But there's a point where thinking becomes hiding. You're not being thorough. You're being scared. You're putting it off.

Most decisions are reversible. The power in most decisions is in the hindsight. That's when you review what you did and learn from it.

If you hire someone and it doesn't work, you let them go and do it again with all that feedback in hindsight.

Plus hiring is a great deal. You hire people on an installment plan. It might not work for them, might not work for you. So might as well get started instead of deferring forever.

If you launch an offer and it flops, you change it.

The cost of a wrong decision is almost always lower than the cost of no decision.

Because no decision means no progress. And no progress means you're stuck exactly where you are.

My client hired the person the next day. Three months later, still there, doing good work. Not perfect, but good enough. That freed him up to focus on the next thing.

Here's the framework. When you're stuck on a decision, ask yourself: is this reversible?

If yes, make the call. You can always adjust later.

If no, sleep on it. Your grandparents were right. But only once.

Most decisions don't deserve three weeks of your mental bandwidth. They deserve 10 minutes and a commitment to move forward.

If they've purchased before, remind them how good it felt. If they haven't, focus on getting them to try.

3. Social Proof

The messier and more authentic, the better.

4. Authority

"As seen in" blocks should be fixtures in your templates.

Press logos, professional endorsements, expert recommendations.

5. Liking

Here's a secret: Use a character to send your emails.

We create fictional brand voices (always female, seems to perform better) and it changes everything.

Emails write themselves. Customers reply like they're talking to a real person. 

Your deliverability improves because of engagement.

It's wild watching customers politely respond to "Emma" when she doesn't exist.

6. Scarcity

Only use real scarcity. Never fake it.

Countdown timers for actual deadlines. Stock alerts for genuine inventory issues.

This principle is nuclear, so use it wisely.

Lie once and your credibility is torched forever.

They send at least 4 emails weekly focused on pain-relief tips like "Hike hacks for arthritis." Educational, not pushy. Turns buyers into repeat customers.

Email marketing is how Hike preserves long-term profitability. They've built a massive CRM to launch new offers to without relying purely on cold traffic.

The takeaway?

Go narrow on your messaging. Build funnels per demographic. Stack upsells. 

Nail your email game.

Here's what I mean:

I audited a brand last week doing £280k/month. Their campaigns were getting 18% open rates when they should be hitting 45%+.

If you're gearing up for Black Friday, do this one thing first:

Clean your list. Aggressively.

I'm serious. BFCM is the perfect opportunity to suppress profiles that are either:

a) Not going to get emailed during this period anyway

b) Haven't engaged with a single email in months

Too many brands are scared to suppress people. They think a bigger list = more revenue.

Wrong.

A bloated list with dead profiles kills your deliverability, tanks your open rates, and costs you money every single month in ESP fees.

During BFCM when you're sending high volume, this gets even worse.

Use the segment definition in the image below as a starting point for who to suppress.
