Everyone says 'add micro-commitments' to pop-ups.

But here’s what happened when we removed it.

A lot of brands just copy what “works” for others.

And saying it will for you, couldn’t be farther from reality. 

We onboarded a new client and set up a pop-up form using what’s working for the majority of other clients. 

We removed all the fluff, added a micro commitment, and tweaked the design.

That took our opt-ins from 3%->5%. 

Then we decided to run a simple test, removing the micro commitment.

Our opt-ins hit 10.33%.

With most of my clients, this test would be the exact opposite. 

But for this client, it doubled our conversions.

That’s the lesson. What may work for one brand can underperform for yours.

You need to always be A/B testing strategically for your audience, inside forms, flows, & campaigns.

It's Dry January, and the brand I've kept my eyes on is BERO

They are killing it right now, and not mention being created by Tom Holland.

I signed up for the email list and remade the welcome email to convert 5-10% of new email subscribers.

Let's break it down...

Hero section:
- Clean headline labeling the brand as a premium choice.
- Subheadline selling the feeling of something new.
- Call-To-Action without someone having to scroll.

Body Section:
- Headline that gives a "next big thing" feeling.
- Body copy briefly dives into the brand.
- Call-To-Action

Product section:
Since it is so new and most are curious to try it, it wouldn't make sense to sell someone on one flavor.

So instead, we focused on pushing people to try the variety pack. They can find the right one for them.

Now (a little hack), we can set up a post-purchase flow to get their response, and from there push them towards buying their flavor. 

Given that the brand is so new, I'd also add the email to the right because it gives off social proof. It shows other people have tried and loved it.

A year of focus can change your entire career.

Most people never find out, because they never go all in.

At the start, I had zero experience, like most others running businesses. So, I DMed someone I looked up to in the space.

He jumped on a 2-hour call. Asked for nothing in return.

A few weeks later, he gave me a shot at his agency.

Email isn’t the first step.

Understanding your customer is.

Brand's will build out their email system, with very little to no research. 

Just flows and campaigns slapped together.

Then wonder why customers don't buy without discounts. 

It's because the messaging/content isn't targeted correctly.

Here is how Eight Sleep does this differently:

They send out an email that asks their customers to get to know them better. 

All they ask for is an email, and why you're struggling with sleep, super simple.

Now, they can use that data to feed it into every future campaign and flow emails. 

Email is no longer a game of just having content in place, but the right content.

The brands that can understand their consumer will always sell better.

You don’t need to pick between copy and design.

But most email marketers act like you do. 🤦‍♂️

If your copy is good enough, people will scroll.

If your design is visually appealing, people will click.

You'll hear a lot that copy is king, or that design is key. 

So, why not have both?

With great copy, you can get away with simple designs.

But it's important to blend the two. 

You'll see this from the biggest brands right now.

They build their campaigns around tight copy and clean visuals. 

They don’t over-prioritize one. They use both to drive action.

There's no doubt that more brands are starting to realize the power of email. But most brands still do it wrong.

In 2026, I predict that more brands will focus on retention and LTV rather than CAC.

So, here's how email can help with that:

1. List growth

You're already paying for site traffic, so you might as well collect their email with an offer upfront. Most of the big brands are doing first-time bundles that have a load of value.  

Also, this will help us with keeping eyes on our brand vs competitors.

2. Automated flows

These get you sales without you having to do anything. They are triggered by something someone does on your site.

Pre-purchase flows = objection handling, answering FAQs, showing brand USPs, and giving offers.

Post-purchase = relationship building and upsells to increase LTV.

3. Campaigns

Most brands are still stuck in the 1 campaign a week, and that will not work in 2026. We are in an attention economy. 

If you aren't popping up a minimum of 3 times in customers' inboxes every week, you're going to fade out.

Find what kind of topics your audience engages with the most, and lean into them for campaigns. 

National holidays, product highlights, FAQs, and ingredient spotlights are all good examples of campaigns. 

The key thing is not focus on the sale but rather to establish your brand as an authority for your product. Sales will flow naturally from that.

My client makes $19,000/m with only one part of the email channel.

And they don’t even have to touch anything.

After auditing dozens of accounts, most brands still don’t know how to set up flows that actually convert traffic into customers.

To be fair, many Founders don’t have the time, expertise, or resources to allocate to getting them right. 

They need to grow the business in other aspects.

But the reality is, if your flows aren’t converting, you’re letting a ton of ad spend go to waste, and your repeat purchase rate. 

It takes knowledge to get them working. 

You need the right structure, intent, and sequence for all parts of the customer journey.

But when you finally get this right, you build a system that turns browsers into buyers on autopilot.

Brands like Dr. Squatch, BRĒZ, and Seed Health make millions from email marketing. 

Here’s how to copy their strategy:

Most brands have one or two flows and send 1-2 campaigns per month.

Then wonder why they don’t see results.

Yet, brands that kill it have found the path forward. 

It’s way easier than you think. Call it the 3 pillars:

1. You MUST send a minimum of 2-3 campaigns per week. 

Focused mainly on content that educates and engages your audience.

Product education, FAQs, highlighting benefits, & behind the scenes.

It will vary for each brand, so find angles that work and implement them fast.

Your audience will establish you as an authority, and most importantly, the “go-to” brand for your product. 

2. You NEED to have the core automations set up

- Welcome, browse abandonment, cart abandonment, checkout abandonment, post-purchase.

These are the baseline of what you should have installed. 

Have relevant content that handles objections, specifically where they are in the customer journey.

USPs, social proof, and risk reversals all play a big part in getting someone to convert.

3. You MUST be growing your list at all times. 

List growth fuels campaigns and automations. 

Set a pop-up form to reflect some sort of offer. (very important to test)

You want to ideally be somewhere between 8-12% at all times. 

More eyes = more opportunity to convert someone later.

Your subject lines aren’t boring. They’re just too complete.

If your email open rates are under 45%, this is why.

Most subject lines give everything away. So there’s no reason to click.

Here’s how to fix that.

Subject line rules that drive opens
↳ Keep it under 55 characters.
↳ Mobile viewers only see ~38 characters.
↳ Lead with a hook, not a headline.

Use preview text to finish the story
↳ Subject line sparks curiosity, don’t resolve it.
↳ Preview text should continue, not repeat.
↳ They work together as a single sentence.
↳ Use them like a headline + subheadline.
↳ Subject = bait. Preview = click.

Don’t write for open rates. Write to earn attention.

Because the more people who open…

The more chances for those who click. The more who buy.

You're probably not lazy. 

You're just avoiding discomfort.

The truth is, most “lazy” people aren't lazy at all.

They’re overwhelmed, anxious, and even thinking too far ahead.

When I first started posting content, it took me 93 days to get a discovery call.

93 days of effort...for one result.

But I wasn’t focused on the time and instead on the outcome:
→ More inbound
→ Less outreach
→ Clients coming to me

The same thing applies to personal goals like fitness.

You’re not lazy. You just don’t want to feel sore, confused, or behind at the gym.

But imagine having more energy. Clearer thinking. Feeling confident in your clothes again.

When you shift your focus from the pain of action to the benefit of outcome... That’s when things move and when “lazy” disappears.

So the lesson is, next time you feel like not doing something, think about the outcome you'll get from the inputs.

This helped me tremendously, especially when feeling like nothing is happening.

There are 2 common issues why your brand is getting below 40% open rates.

Here is how to avoid them.

1. Use curiosity-driven subject lines

A lot of brands give all the info someone needs to understand the email. 

That'll lead to them either wanting to open or not.

You need to be creating curiosity in the customer's mind.

SL: "3 reasons why good sleep matters"
PT: "We couldn't believe #2..."

It's making others want to know what #2 really is.

2. Use your engaged segments

The issue I see more with founder-led email strategies is that they blast the whole list.

They don't have the technical expertise or understanding to create segments that will be best for engagement.

So, I always recommend just sending to those who have engaged.

For the majority of brands, these will give the most ROI compared to micro segments.

45, 60, & 90-day engaged.

Play around with them and see what gives you the best performance across the board. (Opens/Clicks/Revenue)

Neutonic has its email hero section structure nailed down. 

If your emails aren't getting clicks, your hero section is probably the problem.

90% of brands with low click rates have zero hero section structure. And honestly, it's a stupidly simple fix that takes 5 minutes.

Here is the exact framework:

1. Punchy Header (3-5 words max)

Make it about the email topic
Example: "Your Holiday Health Boost"

2. Subheadline (1-2 sentences)

Explain the topic further without making them scroll
They should know exactly what this email is about in under 3 seconds

3. CTA (Above the fold)

Your call to action needs to be visible without scrolling
Use a button, ideally one that stands out

Here's why this works:

Every time you make someone scroll, you're literally losing attention. If they don't understand your topic immediately, they bounce.

A tight hero section eliminates that problem and keeps clicks high.

You’re losing out on a ton of revenue if you only send one email during sale periods. 

When I first onboarded a new client, I looked inside their account. 

Saw them sending one email when they had a deal going on.

I asked them why this was. They didn’t want to annoy or upset their list. 

Here’s the thing…

Most people don’t even remember that you have a deal going on initially.

By not sending out reminders to those who still haven’t purchased, you’re doing your customers a disservice.

With most of my clients, our deal strategy is an initial email, one reminder (2-3 days later), and a last chance (3-4 days later).

We space them out reasonably because people can honestly forget.

They opened email while doing something, or maybe they’re between pay periods. 

So by sending out 2 more emails to those who haven’t purchased it acts as a reminder.

For this client, once we started implementing this, we 2.5x’d our sales revenue just by sending 2 more emails in between our usual schedule.

More people got to see it, so more people purchased overall.
