(from someone who went from nothing to a Top ranked podcast)


1-Story over education (first 5 episodes):
The single thing that drives most downloads and partnerships is storytelling.
Who are you, where did you come from, why do you do what you do, what was your turning point, how can you help?

The first 5 episodes I'd solely focus on communicating your vision and let people relate to you.

2-Strategic guest placements:
I'd look for the top or most relatable guests in your industry that have a specific audience (piggy back from your guests audience here is HUGE).

Ex: You're helping people invest smarter and grow their wealth, bring a guest who's been on other podcasts and has a more established audience. 

3-Communication over perfection:
Podcasts that grow and bring big guests, don't have it all perfect, in fact, they are messy behind the scenes, but they own a VERY powerful skill: The art of effective communication.
Know how to communicate your vision to your guests and partners...and you'll be set up.

4-Set up the show for monetization from the GET GO:
Biggest lie in the industry is: You need 100,000 downloads to get monetized.
I call that "horse crap". You do NOT need to be on the charts to monetize.
But you need to know what value your show brings and how this can help other companies advertise their products/services. 1 or 2 aligned partnerships can bring in multiple 5-figures.

5-Get over the fear of speaking your truth:
This is a BIG one. Getting over the fear of exposure will bring you more growth than strategy. Trust me. Speak your truth. BE BOLD. BE POLIRIZING.

This will help and connect with your audience more than being "politically correct".

Growing and running a podcast that will bring in revenue for your business and major brand partnerships shouldn't be a "hassle".

Over the last 2 years of running House of Impact, I've seen a lot of friends in the industry that started a podcast and 10 episodes in, gave up.

Podcasting CAN be a hassle and a "waste of time" if you:
Have weak positioning
No repeatable framework
No clear messaging
No system to bring in traffic from short form to long form

And your overall planning and post-production is a mess.

The hidden "secret" to having a successful and profitable podcast...
and the thing that truly matters most is this👇🏻

On today's Monday series of "What's in my DM's"

"We will prioritize growing our podcast when we increase our lead flow".

This is the top thing that keeps popping up in my DM's when talking with other founders who have or are thinking about starting a podcast.

Fair enough, I don't blame them...BUT:

A lot of growth in business is attributed to TRUST. And trust is built by sharing stories people relate to and can see themselves in.

And that's what having a podcast creates.

When I first started podcasting, I never thought I'd have the option to create a business from it...but it turns out, people trusts you and so they trust what you have to say (and sell).

Since then, I've created 2 more income streams that wouldn't be there if I had never started.

Growing a podcast has not only worked for business growth but for:
-Major partnerships with aligned companies.
-Keynote opportunities with my ideal audience
-Multiple 5-figure deals

Turns out, having a podcast people tune into...is a massive lever to pull (and one 90% of founders are sleeping in).

Now...

I am not here to convince you to start and grow a podcast and hire me to help you...But what I am here to say out loud is:

Podcasting is the biggest trust and growth lever you can pull, don't leave money on the table just because "you don't have time". 

I slept on podcasting for 3 years and I wish I had started earlier.

Here are 3 things I would NEVER do if I wanted to grow your business or brand through your podcast. (Save this)

1-Outsource guest booking for "time's sake": 

This is probably one of the things that will damage your podcast AND brand the most. Booking agencies charge around $3k a month to book you guests (that might not even be the good fit for you). They might book you big guests, but they care about placement.

Learn how to book big guests yourself from the very beginning. The network you will gain is quite substantial and that will pay x10 more long-term.

(I still do this 18 months into my show and I won't outsource it)

2-Use your podcast as a billboard to promote your business: 

For the love of God...don't. Your podcast will bring leads, opportunities...whatever you put in, you will get...BUT, Podcasts are made for connection.
If all you care about is flood your show with promotion...your drop out rate will be high and people won't even stick around to even hear about your offer.

3-Posting x2 a month and expecting your show to blow up:

Podcasting is a long-term game, but it is also a compound game. You will reap the most the more consistent you are and the longer you stay in the industry.

People will still listen to your episodes even if these are 6 to 12 months old. 
If you keep a consistent release schedule (optimal x4 a month), you will see compound growth all over.

These are my 2 cents, from someone who did almost everything herself (still do).

Do not follow all the advice you hear out there.

I didn't start my podcast because it was the right time.

I started because I was struggling. Bad.

It wasn't the right time, under the right circumstances.

Finances were not on my side either.

But I was at such a low...in such a pit...that I had no other option but to get myself out of the hole that I was in and start.

I was scared. 

I didn't know people in the industry. I didn't know how to record podcasts. 

What to ask. Who to interview.

But I knew that not starting wasn't going to solve this. 
Entertaining the thought of "starting" and not do it...
It would only make it worse.

I knew that If I were to look back on my life a year from now and still be in the same place..I wouldn't forgive myself for it.

I knew something had to change and I had to lean into that nudge in my soul that said " Just go do it. Just start".

And I am so glad for it, because almost 2 years ago I couldn't recognize myself or my life. And what started as a Hail Mary to save my mental health...has become the lighthouse that's helping thousands change their lives.

And change mine in the process.

Starting or growing a podcast can be daunting, but it doesn't have to be.

7 out of 8 CEOs in the room had never experienced CliftonStrengths.
That caught my attention.

I had been invited into a YPO CEO retreat for a 4-hour session on leading with strengths.  It was part of a 2-day offsite where these leaders were focused on growing their businesses together.

These were smart, experienced and high-performing CEOs. Successful by any reasonable standard.

What surprised me was how quickly things shifted once we gave them language for their strengths.

The room changed.
The conversations went deeper.
Connections between leadership, strengths and employee engagement started clicking almost immediately!

It reminded me of something I see often:
Success doesn't automatically bring clarity.

A lot of organizations are still leading without a shared strengths language. Leaders are working hard, but they don't always see how their natural talents show up for their teams or how those talents are experienced by others.

It becomes personal, practical and sustainable.

Every one of them left with a clearer picture of their leadership and their people.

If strengths aren't part of how you develop leaders or build engagement in your organization, that's not a failure.

Life opened up.

I listen.
Sometimes I coach.
Mostly, I stay present.

Those quiet moments become sacred space.
And they compound over time.

Time is the currency.

Do you know the CliftonStrengths Person of the Year? 

This isn't actually a thing, but if it was, 2025 would tell an interesting story.

More than two million people took the CliftonStrengths assessment last year. When the data settled, five themes surfaced most frequently:

Relator
Achiever
Developer
Learner
Empathy

Before we over-interpret that, let's be clear:
This is not a psychological profile of humanity. It reflects who chose to take the assessment, where strengths conversations are gaining traction and who currently has access.

Still, I find it fascinating!

High relationship orientation.
Strong drive.
Growth mindset.
Deep care for people.

That says something about the kinds of leaders leaning into development right now.

Here's a better question:
Do you know your Top Five?
And are you building your life and leadership around them?

I asked AI to create a realistic portrait of me based on how I actually lead.

And the response surprised me.

It didn't show a CEO chasing growth for growth's sake.
It showed a leader shaped by strengths, not shortcuts.
Someone focused on people, culture and long-term direction.
A builder more interested in creating great places to work than just profitable ones.

But what mattered most wasn't the work.
It was what sits underneath it.

Faith that anchors every decision.
Family that keeps my priorities honest.
Mission that gives the work meaning beyond scale or success.

I often hear in the gym:
Muscle is built through progressive overload.

You lift something that challenges you. You stay with it until it feels steady. And when it feels steady, you increase the weight.

Simple. Not easy.

The last few reps are always the hardest. That's where the strain shows up. That's also where the growth begins.

The same pattern shows up outside the gym.

Growth rarely happens when things feel comfortable!

It happens in the conversation you've been avoiding.
In the added responsibility.
In the stretch that asks a little more of you.

If it never feels heavy, it probably isn't building anything.

Progress doesn't require dramatic leaps. It requires intentional increases.

Where are you choosing to stay steady and where is it time to add weight?

Who's feeling ready to catch a flight for spring break?

There's a feeling most of us recognize when we travel.
We slow down.
We pay attention.
We see things we would normally walk past!

Conversations feel richer. Moments feel intentional. Perspective widens.

It's easy to assume the location creates that shift. I'm not sure it does.

Travel changes our pace. And when our pace changes, our awareness increases. Maybe that's the real gift.

What if we didn't wait for a plane ticket to live that way? What if we brought that same curiosity, presence and perspective into an ordinary Tuesday?

Sometimes the environment changes us. Sometimes we just choose to see differently.

What would it look like to approach next week with that kind of posture?

If you're a #1 Achiever, this will sound familiar:
You don't relax easily.
Because unfinished work sits loud in your mind.

You wake up thinking about what needs to get done.
You go to bed reviewing what you didn't get to yet.

A good day isn't about praise.
It's about progress!

You feel calm when things are moving.
You feel restless when they're not.

People see your output and call you driven.
What they don't see is the internal scoreboard you carry quietly.

You don't chase recognition.
You chase completion.

And when you slow down, it's rarely because you want to.
It's because you've learned that sustainability matters as much as momentum.

Achievers aren't motivated by applause.
They're motivated by meaningful work and the satisfaction of forward motion.

If this is you, you're not "too much."

On a day when many of us are out of the office, I'm reminded of a simple yet often overlooked thought: some of our greatest strengths are not first revealed in the workplace.

They’re revealed at home.
Around a dinner table.
In hard conversations.

In ordinary Monday nights.

The way you listen.
The way you encourage.
The way you create stability for others.

Those aren't "soft skills."
They're strengths!

Leadership doesn't start in the boardroom.
It starts in relationships.

And often, the people who know our wiring best aren’t colleagues.
They're family.

When you think about how you lead at work this week, I encourage you to ask yourself: where do my strengths show up most naturally?

Are you bringing that same authenticity into your leadership?

I've taught leadership in a lot of rooms.
But this one was different!

Forty leaders.
Two languages.
One mission.

I was at the Youth With A Mission base in Tijuana, teaching alongside my interpreter, moving back and forth between English and Spanish as we worked with leaders from across the organization. Different teams, different backgrounds, fully united in purpose.

Homes of Hope, Inc. has built more than 30,000 homes over the last 40 years for families living in extreme poverty. 
Their work is tangible, sacrificial and deeply faithful.

We spent our time exploring strengths-based leadership.
How leading from strengths increases effectiveness.
How it brings clarity at every level.
How it helps leaders steward people well, not just manage outcomes.

Team leaders, directors and executive leaders leaned in.
The engagement was real.
The dialogue was honest.
The commitment to becoming a strengths-based organization was unmistakable.

But what stayed with me most was their long view, the most interesting part. 
This is an organization carrying a 300-year vision.

Exactly, 300 years!

Not just meeting urgent needs today, but stewarding a legacy of service for generations yet to come.

I left deeply grateful.
Grateful for the opportunity to serve leaders who so faithfully serve others.
And grateful to witness what God is doing through this mission.

Some rooms remind you why leadership matters.
This was one of them!

Thomas Edison's teacher once told his mother he was difficult and unteachable.

She didn't argue or panic.

One wants harmony, another wants truth.
And leadership lives in the tension between them.

The real work isn't choosing one strength over another.
It's learning how to wrestle them into cooperation, so that they serve the moment instead of fighting it.

That's where maturity shows up.
Not in having fewer tensions… but in leading through them.

I recently had the privilege of spending extended time with CORE young adult leaders.

We prayed.
We studied leadership and discipleship.
We had honest conversations about strengths, contribution and where each of us still needs to grow.

We prepared meals side by side.
And yes, we competed hard in a pickleball tournament!

What stands out most isn’t their energy.
It’s their commitment.

Every week, they welcome and serve 30-40 young adults who are hungry for community, truth and purpose. That kind of impact doesn’t happen by accident.

It requires leaders who are willing to grow first.

We leaned into strengths-based development: clarifying what each person uniquely brings and what each person needs from the team.

Strong teams are built when both contribution and need are named.

Unity isn’t accidental.
It’s cultivated through understanding.

Their passion for making disciples of Jesus is real.
Their devotion is evident.
Their willingness to sharpen one another is inspiring.

I’m proud of them.
I believe in them.
And I’m grateful to serve alongside leaders who are serious about growing in character, clarity and calling.
