Alcohol ruined most of my holidays, 


5am Airport beer (when did this become a thing)

7am Beers on the flight, sandwiches, crisps and chocolate for breakfast. 

11am Beers by the pool and sun bathe all day.

2pm Eat junk food for lunch and you guessed it, more beers. 

3pm More sun bathing. 

6pm Go back to the room probably sun burnt and having more beers while doom scrolling. 

8pm Go out and get shit faced. 

1am Have a takeaway. 

“Sounds like bliss” give your head a wobble. 

No one actually believes that, it’s just bravado. I don’t judge it, it just didn’t serve me. So I changed it. 

5 years without alcohol now and my holidays look very different I recently went to the Algarve, my day is now filled with;

-Gratitude
-Journalling 
-Hydrating 
-Healthy meals 
-Plenty of walking 
-Workouts 
-Cold water therapy 
-Time in the spa 
-Reading books 
-No phone at the table 

This isn’t some wishy washy BS. It’s a set of non negotiable’s I live my life by. 

The difference in how I feel is frightening. My energy was higher than when I left, I felt relaxed and ready to go.

Before I felt like a dehydrated ball bag. Life can be really pleasant when you’re filling your body with shit.

You're not saying no to them.

Here's what people-pleasing actually is:

"If I make everyone happy, they'll keep me around."

What effect does alcohol actually have on your body? 


I’ll skip the boring science behind it for now and go after what people really care about.

Physique- As you can see, I am very bloated, overweight and (what you can’t see) my skin is terrible. My complexion looked like an old handbag. 

Clothes didn’t fit- Having to shop in the XXL section was a new low for me. I do have to bigger clothes as I’m 6ft 4 but this was purely down to being overweight. 

Status- I would pride myself on physique through my 20’s and when I lost that, I lost part of me. My own perceived status was on the floor. 

Health- I couldn’t run 5k, workouts were a struggle and takeaways were the norm. I treated my body like a dumpster ground. 

Relationships- I pushed away those that actually cared about me and surrounded myself with people that didn’t. 

Career- Unfulfilled, miserable and earning 30k a year. 

Fast forward to today- 

-5 years sober and at peace 
-30kg lighter and fitter than ever 
-Own a 6 figure business 
-In a healthy relationship 
-Coached over 500 people 
-Have my own podcast


Life can be amazing when you stop punishing your body.

Client closed a £800,000 deal last Tuesday.
Went home buzzing.

His wife looked at him and said: 
“Your daughter asked me today if you even like her."

He’d spent 6 months negotiating that deal.
Late nights. Strategic planning. Building relationships.

He’d spent about 6 minutes total with his daughter that week.

Here’s what kills me:

You’ll spend 3 hours preparing for a board meeting.
⤷ You won’t spend 3 minutes asking your kid about their day.

You’ll track revenue KPIs obsessively.
⤷ You have no clue what your wife actually needs.

Then you wonder why success feels so empty.

I was told to sit down, shut up, got told I would fail and that people with ADHD need to manage their expectations,

3 coffees before lunch, junk food to sober up, bottle of wine to “relax” on an evening. When did this become normal?


The cycle was endless. 

I would feel like shit all day, drink on the evening to “unwind” after a “stressful day” and then feel like shit again and repeat. 

My days were stressful because of the alcohol. But the real issue wasn’t the alcohol at all. 

It’s what made me drink the alcohol is the first place. This is a typical timeline for most men in the UK that I’ve coached. (Over 400 of them)

8-10 years old- You’re in the pub with Dad and his mates. You see them drinking every week and feel like you’re missing out. 

14-16 years old- You drink with your mates either in a park or at a house party to fit in. You hate the taste but do it anyway. 

16-19 years old- You start going out and it becomes the norm. Some head off to uni, some start work. Either way, it’s the done thing. 

20-25- It fully engrained in your identity and you don’t know any different. 

25-30- Life becomes more stressful. Marriage, career progression, kids, buying a house etc. you drink to socialise but also to numb emotions. 

30+- Most want to stop but don’t know how to live without it. The hangovers become unbearable. 

40+- You really want to stop as it’s not helping you at all. You’re still fearful though and go back to your teenage self as one of our biggest fears is abandonment. 

I have seen this play out countless times and I’m telling you now, having helped hundreds of people stop drinking the only common theme is that they wish they had stopped sooner. 

Alcohol robs you of your inner peace, it ruins your sleep and most of your bad decisions come after you’ve consumed it. 

I don’t care if you drink, it’s none of my business but if you do take a break or stop completely and pair it with other healthy habits, it will change your life.

You're not trying to balance two separate things.

You're trying to balance two parts of yourself that you've artificially divided.

"Home Marcus" is supposed to be relaxed, present, emotional, vulnerable.

The cognitive dissonance is killing you.

What if instead of balance, you aimed for integration?

What if the qualities that make you excellent professionally could also make you

Strategic thinking applied to family planning.

Leadership skills applied to parenting.

Problem-solving abilities applied to relationship challenges.

Drive and ambition applied to personal growth.

I used to hide my stress during Monday morning leadership meetings.


Perfect smile. 
Perfect “everything’s under control” energy.

But I’d been awake since 4 AM with anxiety.
Everyone thought I had it together.

I thought admitting struggle = losing credibility.
Then one Monday morning, I broke.
Not dramatically. Just honestly.

“I’m going to be real with you. I’m exhausted. I’ve been running on empty for months. I don’t have all the answers today."

I get it. Your brain is spiralling like the energiser bunny on acid. 

This isn’t going to be some wanky “10x your life in 3 hours routine” type of post. 

It’s what I use and a system I teach my clients. (70% of which are neurodivergent) 

There’s nothing “routine” about ADHD. One minute you’re procrastinating about doing the dishwasher and the next you’re hyper focused on a random business plan you’ve just thought of for 3 hours without moving from your laptop. 

That said, I see a lot of people use their neurodivergence to limit themselves. 

“I can’t do that, I have adhd”

“It’s my adhd brain taking over again” 

Etc etc. 

So, instead of focusing on “routine” let’s talk about some nightly non negotiable’s. 

Your morning is screwed without it. 

-Let’s say you go to bed at 10pm, wear red light blocking glasses from 8pm. Loads of benefits. 

-Take magnesium tablets 2 hours before bed. It helps relax you. Wash them down with a herbal tea. 

-Get your breakfast prepped and gym gear/exercise gear ready so you’re not scrambling around in the morning. 

-No screens 30-60 mins before bed. The last thing you need is more anxiety or thought overload. 

-Do a 5-10 minute breathwork routine to slow down your thoughts. 

-Get your phone and tele out of your bedroom. Stop checking your emails or TikTok videos in bed. 

-Use lavender spray for your pillows and an eye mask. 

-Put on a sleep story or something similar to help relax you and take your mind off your thoughts. 

-Use a whoop/device to track your sleep.

-Don’t drink alcohol. It doesn’t help you sleep, it sedates you. 

Yes there’s the odd night you’ll feel restless, yes kids disrupt things, pets jump on the bed etc. 

But your night time stress is usually created by yourself and your habits. How much time are you watching Netflix while scrolling on your phone? 

Watching videos in bed? 

Consuming the 10pm news about death and awful events across the world right before trying to sleep? 

If you can follow just 3-4 of these things each night I can guarantee you that your sleep will improve.

Repeat 

Reflect-What went well? What have I learnt? Where have I grown this week? Where did I let myself down this week? What do I want to have achieved by the end of this coming week? 

Refine- This is where I will refine the areas where I didn’t achieve my tasks based off the answers above and do what I can to achieve a new outcome. 

Repeat- What went well and what’s repeatable? Whether it’s sales, health, relationships etc. 

Stop doing shit that doesn’t serve you, do more of what works. Simple. 

Without doing these things it can negatively impact every area of your life.

Today I started therapy and I have already had a massive breakthrough, 

I haven’t started therapy because I’m broken, I just know I’m holding myself back. 

I have worked on myself incessantly for the last 5 years. Spent over 100k on coaches and courses, countless hours of studying, consuming podcasts and listening to over 70 self help books. 

I always said therapy wasn’t for me and that I didn’t need it. 

Something shifted about 8 minutes into our call. 

He asked me to describe myself and for some back ground information. I told him about where I was born, my family set up, some of my challenges in life so far and what I do for a living. 

I referred to myself as a High Performance Coach.

He smiled and said “Performance?” 

Yes I replied. 

“It sounds like you’ve been performing most of your life and maybe we need to take a break from doing that”. 

I have never felt more seen in all my life. For as long as I can remember I haven’t felt good enough and needed to put on a mask or performance to try and get people to like me. 

Often at the expense of my own health. I have felt misunderstood my entire life and now it’s time to peel that back and truly be the man I was created to be. 

So this doesn’t mean I haven’t been myself or created a facade, it simply means I am going to give myself permission to truly live in alignment with my values without having to explain myself or fear rejection anymore. 

This is going to be the best gift I have ever given to myself and that will naturally mean I can serve others to an even higher standard.

Procrastination is self-harm.

Sounds harsh? It's true.
You just don't see the scars.

The pattern:

Monday: "This week I'm setting boundaries."  
Wednesday: Working through lunch again.  
Friday: "Next week for sure."  
Sunday: Anxiety. Again.

Repeat 100 times.
You stop trusting yourself.

But it's not discipline you're missing.
⤷ It's identity work.

That's the scary part.

I promised myself I'd quit drinking.
"Monday I'll start."

The problem was; 

Every broken promise was another invisible scar.

That identity was killing me. 
But it was familiar.

When I finally followed through, everything changed.

Not because I got disciplined.

Gratitude: 
I'm grateful I have clients who reschedule, not cancel.

AND I'm noticing I'm making it mean more than it does.

Perspective: 
In 5 years, will this matter?

Five years ago, one cancellation = 3-day spiral.

⤷ People cancel. It happens. It's not about me.

GAP isn't pretending everything's fine.

It's not letting your anxious brain write disaster stories that aren't true.

Everyone chases balance. Eight hours here, eight hours there. Build walls between work and life.

Guilty at work because you’re missing dinner. Guilty at dinner because you’re thinking about the deal.
Exhausting.

You don’t need balance. 
You need alignment.

When your work reflects your values and your life supports your purpose, there’s no war to manage.

You’re not splitting yourself in half. 
You’re building something whole.

I spent years chasing balance. Strict schedules. No laptop at home.

The walls didn’t create peace. They created guilt.

The shift happened when I stopped balancing and started aligning.

Now, when I’m working, I’m present because it matters. When I’m home, I’m present because nothing is pulling me away.
