I set up Wilkes Wood in 2018 with my best friend, James.

James is a truly great creative and, whilst working as a freelance marketer, I frequently had reason to collaborate with him on projects. Eventually, we realised we should join forces officially, and Wilkes Wood was born.

My role is split between strategy and project management, helping to bring clarity to thinking and ensuring that resources are always being utilised in the most effective way.

I hold an MSc in Data Analytics and Digital Marketing - something I decided to embark on upon our second year of business. 

Despite the obvious furthering of my understanding of data and how best to draw insights from analytics, the most critical learning journey from this course was around strategic thinking.

This has had a profound impact on nearly every element of both my professional and personal life. I was lucky enough to be tutored by some truly amazing individuals like Dr David Norris, who have helped me reframe how I approach problem-solving, balancing long-term thinking with data-led action and constant, iterative improvement.

Outside of my professional activities, I am an avid photographer, shooting mostly on analogue cameras. This helps me slow down a little and create with more intention.

Having grown up in the heart of the Peak District, I am a big outdoors enthusiast, taking great joy in hiking, camping and exploring whenever my schedule allows. 

Aside from these, I’m incredibly fond of cooking, creative writing, and literature. All of these interests sort of morph and meld together.

I am driven by purpose, opportunities to learn, and also by the diverse array of people I get to encounter through my work and hobbies. 

I live in Sheffield with Amelia, my wonderful partner of many years, and Aubrey, our slightly boring yet increasingly large tortoise.

The Wildlife Trusts

A volunteering day with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust re-building a damaged dry stone wall, great team effort and something I have never tried, realising how hard it is and the skill that goes into building dry stone walls and the importance of them in British culture and history.

A summer part-time job, dealing with installing new IT hardware, and also removing it. Also cleaning the equipment and re-imaging computers so that the data on the PCs are set to the university settings allowing the university to have its privacy and programmes that are needed for students in particular buildings to be installed. This was a real taste of what everyday work is like, working closely in a team of people from different ages and backgrounds, this was majorly out of my comfort zone, however a great few months of experience in the real working world.

Information Technology Support Technician

Following the pandemic and graduation from Sheffield Hallam University, I was offered a role as a Business Co-ordinator at Sladen Consulting Ltd. I developed skills in project management, data analysis, financial reporting, leadership, and CRM management. I have built connections and relationships during this role, working alongside a talented team and incredible clients who have helped me grow and gain confidence in a working environment. 

I volunteered time towards the Sladen Consulting Dinghy - a small group of individuals within the Sladen Family who are the main contacts and drivers of the Butterfly Fund, in which Sladen offers its services to organisations that require it. This is their way of being sustainable and helping save the world! 

Currently I am studying part-time at the University of York, for a Masters in Public Administration in International Development. Hopefully, this will enable me to develop into the career I’ve been working towards. 

I am a certified Project Manager under PRINCE2, which has hugely helped develop my knowledge around project management roles, allowing me to understand the theory of project management and during my role at Sladen, apply those learnings to my work. 

Since my departure at Sladen, I have moved across the pond to Perth, Western Australia, in which I have begun a new adventure. Broadening my horizons and found myself within the Building Services for the City of Swan Council. A completely different sector and an exciting new challenge… especially juggling a masters! 

I am very happy with my achievements and developments so far, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
