The most important muscle businesses need to build now isn’t AI.
It’s innovation as a real-time capability. AI simply unlocks that ability. 

We’ve spent decades treating innovation as something to plan, fund, and roll out on a roadmap. It was expensive, slow, and often outsourced to SaaS vendors. It was outsourced because building software was slow, expensive, and risky.

SaaS won that era.

Not because it was better—but because it moved faster than internal teams could. The economics of innovation didn't work expect for edge cases. 

That constraint is gone. AI has changed the pace of innovation itself. 

Not because everything should be AI—but because AI can now write the software that becomes the capability. It is the muscle, not the outcome. 

Most of what internal teams need to build doesn’t require models, agents, or inference at scale. It requires fast iteration, tight feedback loops, and tools shaped around real operational problems. AI can build that, in seconds. 

This is a new era of small innovation teams who can ship narrowly scoped software at lightning speed—sometimes building AI, often just using it to build faster.

A new role for internal product managers focused on outcomes—treating business units and operational flows as their products. Shipping continuously, and changing how the organization operates in real time.

They build solutions that are too specific, too narrow, and too contextual to justify a SaaS product—yet critical to the company that needs them. 

This doesn’t kill SaaS.
It reframes its value.

When teams can build exactly what they need, in real time, build vs buy is no longer a question. BUILD THE DAMN THING. Vendors become infrastructure and Innovation moves inside the company.

This has been the PaaS narrative for decades. Now AI is the platform, and it's faster, better, more powerful, and able to be wielded by anyone. Even me! I now ship code and build apps for my team.  

The question isn't build vs buy anymore. It's, what becomes possible when innovation is a real-time muscle inside your company. This isn’t theoretical—we’re already operating this way.
