One of the biggest misconceptions about “going upmarket” is that it means 10X-ing the work. 



It’s usually the opposite.

When your ACV changes, your entire GTM math changes with it.

If one enterprise contract equals 10 SMB contracts, you don’t need:

4x the campaigns

You need less volume, more precision. Your message much be driven towards the entire buying committee though. 

Higher ACV means:

Fewer accounts that actually matter
Fewer deals to manage (with lots more touchpoints, project management, politics)
Less random engagement from marketing
More intentional, coordinated effort from sales + marketing

But only if you change the motion.

Going upmarket without changing how you operate is how the "we should go enterprise" goes damned wrong. 

The real shift is this:
You stop marketing to “leads”
and start marketing to named accounts. (And another misconception is that this has to be 1-1 to like 5 accounts). 
If your TAM tier 1 is 500-3000 accounts across your territory, you have the ability to market very specifically to these accounts and the buying committee in each of the accounts. 

That means:

Sales actually knows the accounts
Marketing builds familiarity before the first conversation
Outreach, content, and engagement are tailored.
Activity is measured by progress, not volume

Less activity. Higher relevance. Better outcomes.
